Well, this morning on the way to work I did my good deed for the day. I was travelling down SH1 and just before the Porirua off ramp I could see a bike on the shoulder in the distance. I pulled over to find a guy there with some sort of scooter - I only saw it from the rear so I've no idea what it was.

Anyway, the electrics had packed up apparently and the guy was about to walk into Porirua to get a train.

So, I did the decent thing and offered to bring him to town. I have to say there were several things going through my mind at this point - and if the chap in question is reading this I don't mean anything by the things I'm about to say...

Now I'm fairly light, and my partner who is usually the only pillion I take is fairly light too. This guy is fairly well built and as he sat himself on the back my concerns were immediately that he had a good sense of balance caus if we had to stop, being top heavy, and the back spring pretty well compressed, we MIGHT be in trouble.. ;)

Following on from that, my next concern was that I'd often see scooters sticking in the traffic flow on my way in the mornings which indicates that some are not that keen on filtering. He could be one of em, and I didn't want frighten him to death So bit of a dilemna...

Firstly, how is the clutch going to take with this weight on if we sit in the line?
Second, if we sit in the line the bike is going to overheat for sure,
Third, if we sit in the line I'M going to overheat, I'm already sweating trying to keep the bike upright and go relatively gently! :calm:

Well, between the lines we went, very gently. I was trying to gauge any adverse reactions from said pillion but apart from being a bit tense, him not me, all was good.

It could have been an eyeopener for this guy if he hasn't exeperienced the comaradery before. I saw several othe bikers who waved as they do most mornings, several drivers who I see everyday who always pull over for me - I always give them a wave, and several truckies moving over to let us through as well.

So, I dropped him off at the terrace, and he thanked me saying 'that was brilliant'

If you do happen to be reading this mate, I hope you had a good trip, and I hope you get your bike sorted.

:done:
