thought id take a couple of hours off from the motel and have a run over to shelly beach wharf from wellsford to have a couple of beers and some fish and chips for tea. absolute magic sitting there watching the world go by. choice f@c as well. headed back and stopped at helensville to fill up and bugger me I grabbed the deisel nozzle and shoved $15 in. yaaaarrrrrhhhh. the bloke at the shell station was incredible. helped me out with tools and draining the tank etc. top bloke. bloody expensive tank though.$45 to fill up the rf . turned into an expensive run. live and learn i suppose,

So you never noticed the warning sign, the extra safety latch on the pump or the nasty smell and oily feel before you did this?

I see that nearly every day. It's a major pain in the arse for us as we have to drain, syphon or maybe even remove the tank.Of course they want it done right now which upsets the work we are doing....and then you find they have no money to pay...then are left with 40 litres of contaminated fuel to dispose of.
Now there are a couple of companies like Suckie Moto who come out and do it onsite - and charge $150.So now I don't do it...I give them Suckie Moto's number and watch them squirm and moan. Most pumps now have a latch on the diesel pump - but it doesn't stop them putting petrol in their diesel.

What?
Not one comment about that being the usual fuel for an RF?:dodge:

Hey at least it is probably better than putting water in the petrol tank to "cool" the engine down :stupid: . One of my mates loned her van out and that's what happened. Supposidly they drained it "properly" but it ran terrible after that until we put some isopropel in it. What's worse is it was a automatic and it was for ever stalling at the intersections and was aweful to drive.

On a ride when a mate did the deisel fill by mistake. It was an older pump at an independently owned station so there were no warnings or special locks etc. We all just rolled in and filled. It can happen easy. My sympathies:grouphug:

Classic.
 Diesel pump handles are black. Petrol are red or green.
Was this filled into your car? If it was, you could have just continued with Petrol and she'll be alright. Might be sluggish but should still run. If it was your bike, MMmm, :wait:

when i pulled in to fill up i overshot the pump by a couple of feet, for the first time ever i didnt get off the bike but just reached back for the handle, bad move. the pump and handle were red. there was no safety lock on the pump the warning was on the handle which id just covered with my hand. feck

This used to happen regularly in ambulance when we still had Dafs as the pool vehicles (petrol) and the crews changed back into the Mercedes trucks (diesel). Became a written warning offence.
Used to be good when we had the Dafs and were with Shell - refuelling a Daf once or even twice a shift = lots of Flybuy points. Now the fleet is with Mobil we don't get any perks!

Few people at work have done it and then tried to drive away:shit: Ive got a deisel hilux cage, misses has a petrol cage and then there are the bikes. So far so good, but there is still awhile to go. All you can really say is bugger and pay whatever the charges are for fixing it IMO.

It's surprisingly easy, especially at older servos where the pumps don't have the lock thingy and they ahve those pumps with two types of fuel in the one pumpy thing. .If the pump has Super petrol on one side, and the other hose is diesel. I've done it, glanced at the pump - "uh super that end, I want regular (or vise versa)" grabbed the hose from the other side of the pump, and then stared at it thinbking "Something wrong - what is it - Ohhhhhhhh , yeah"

Bummer mate! I'm paranoid it'll happen to me one day! Just one moment of brain fade and Murphy will get you! I double check the pump and I even see where the hose comes from at times! Senility has its down side...

I used to pump gas and at least once a year I put diesel in a petrol or petrol in a diesel (8 hours on a busy forecourt permanently suckin' in the fumes can do awful things to your concentration) but I've never heard of diesel in a bike, that's heavy right there.

At the gas station I go to you know you are at the diesel pump by the sea of slippery black residue on the ground surrounding it - great for going arse over tit

ive never put deisel into the wrong vehicle....i make sure a i double check whats where first....the main site im at...the first 2 pumps are 91, then the gas bottle lpg, then 95/91...other side is car lpg, then 19/diesel/95. tricky when your first starting...i have however put 95 in instead of 91 and viceversa...but ya dont tell the customer and they dont really notice. if they do, it likely wont make much difference anyway.
good on the attendant for helping you out though...i wouldnt know what to do other than call a towie or something!

Either way round incorrectly can be very bad. Even this way with diesel in a petrol, as it ends up bore washing and filling the sump with diesel; diluting the oil. Not good, though im sure if it was very little it would be ok. Ive seen it in large quantities wreck an engine from lack of lubrication and literally a full sump till it blew huge amounts of black smoke as it pumped diesely oil up the breather straight into the engine...
Petrol in a diesels a no brainer; its not a good lubricant for the extreme pressures in a fuel injection pump, and it cooks the nozzles in the injectors in no time flat.
