I was Just coming home from paying my $80 speeding fine and thanks to some light rain and some oil on the road the R6 now needs repairs done to the tail section :pinch:

Came down the hill and cut tight on a corner slower than legal speed (can normally take the corner at 50-60kmh in the dry and i was doing 30ish) I got caught on a wet/oily patch and the rear wheel let go, the bike did a 180 on the ground and stopped wheels first just before the gutter on the other side of the road.

I have a hole in my jacket and jeans and corresponding burnt/grazed skin.

Thankfully my pillion peg was out (???) and the bike landed on the peg and the handle bar saving the majority of the fairings from their impending doom. The side cover is scratched up and the tail section had a big chunk taken out of it. I'm gonna get it plastic welded and maybe get a custom paint job done on the tail.

So take it easy people, its the stuff you dont think will make a difference that will catch you out.

Mate, not good to hear. At least you are ok but what a bugger.

Here, wasn't it you who said to me I don't slow down in the wet?? Coro loop ride a few weeks back remember.

Just a little dig aye :)

That's how the 14 shot away on me when we hit the wet patch coming down the Hikuias. Just enough moisture to bring the grease to the top. Bugger all you can do about it when it goes from dry to wet on the same sweeper.

Real pleased it wasn't worse. Can shake your confidence in the wet once it happens though.

ROFL at HDTboy!

Yeh, i didnt actually see that the corner was wet untill i picked the bike up and looked at the corner

I remember that the only thing i said was when i was sliding down the road - "you fucking slut" wierd what you say when you are in a shit situation.

The repair will be relatively cheap. I'm almost contemplating leaving it to see how long it takes for my olds to see the damage, but knowing my dad its best to tell him now otherwise he will assume it happened at the trackday this coming weekend.

will take the handle bar over to my mates at the airbase so i can get it straightened in the morning, it' still rideable and i gotta go to work.

Hey gav, battlescars give you extra credit aye :blip:

And i suppose that its a good oppurtunity to ask the hottie at work out, cause "chicks dig scars" :doobey:

Interesting you say that you didn't notice it was wet 'cause same thing just happened to me. Dry as roads most of the way home, come off the motorway at the Te Atatu exit, get half way into the corner at *ahem* slightly more than the recommended speed, and realise it's wet.

No problems at all with the trusty pilot powers guaranteed to grip to 41degrees in the wet...:headbang: but with the weather we're having today be careful out there peeps! Dry roads can be wet in a nanosecond!

Sorry to hear about yer bin Gareth, need a bit of lovin on those bruises...?

Hope it doesnt cost much and you ok .....

My advice I gave to people who bought new Jap bikes with fairings
Go and buy a race fairing , or a cheap aftermarket one . Take the original off wrap it up and store it in the attic,

Now take your NEW bike and spank its bottom, ,

when you come to sell it , put the original fairing back on and the money you spent on the race fairing will be given back to you when you sell the now brand new looking bike ..... * that cartwheeled out of turn one on track day *

Or buy a bike that doesnt use a fairing ,,,

After figuring that one out . I think the answer is umm no , The first thing I look for is a damaged alt case . which can have expensive consequenses .

I think I will stick to skate board wheels !! they do a good job , better than a 2 k fairing

saw a side car rig at the hacksaw that had skateboard wheels for the swinger to hook his feet on etc as he hung off like a monkey

a mate also used skateboard wheels to do a body lift on his hilux

remarkable thing the humble skateboard wheel

Gutted Gareth...that's the second time you've been down on that bike, aye?

Lower speeds in the wet suck ass...at around or below 30km/h, I don't think the bike has enough stability to slide without assistance from the inside leg. I usually either try to keep my speed up, which I reckon is safer than trying to nana it.

I reckon falling under the bike is best! You wear leathers for a reason.

Sorry to hear 'bout that! Not fun! Glad you're okay, though, coulda been a lot worse if you'd slid under a car or something! Gives us pause to think about how casual we can get at times. Life can bite you when you least expect it.

avlflr - i mostly know young'ns that only joined up a year or two ago.

My old man is Graham Deacon, everyone in the airforce seems to know him :wait:

I just went around the corner on the way home from work to see what the corner was like... there is fuckloads of oil splodges everywhere, and from the looks of things its the same car because they all have the same pattern, some of the shit was fresh (able to wipe it off with my finger) - fucks me off to no end but what am i gonna do about it?

As for the bike, im gonna get my mate to make me some carbon fibre covers to hide then engine bits that stick out, gonna get some anodised pegs to replace the pillion ones (and probably mine too) *considering* painting the lower fairings matt black, but may just save up and go to reflections to get a proper job done and get it back to normal. Problem is that my old man (who paid for most of the bike) believes everything should go back to how it was.

As for the race fairings idea - it's one of 'those things' i'm already saving up for, just couldnt get them soon enough.

Bum

Take a photo of the oil on the road, In England it was possible to get the council to reach into their pockets and pay , due to not maintaining the road. Dont Know about NZ ( worth a punt ??)

Second point , afraid your old man is right, IMHO aftermarket products are only worth what the buyer is willing to pay. At auction I would bid a lower price for a non standard bike than I would with a aftermarket part

Thats only at resale. In the mean time BLING THE F$$%%^^ outa it . cos Standard Sux big time .....

and example of this , is super trapp, on long duration cams, they lose power, but the marketing is there, So If for example I was buying an enfield which had a super trapp I would lower the price to include the purchase of a replacement muffer ( for example )

All in all not a good day for you ! Sorry to hear that ?

just been in to reflections and the quote comes too... err... far more than i want to pay, but he did have a complete tail section in better condition than mine which i got for $100 which will atleast save $$ on the plastic welding, im gonna sand up the scratches on it (on the top at the back ???) and stick some white vinyl over the back to make a number board.

If someone wants to teach me to plastic weld i would love to practice on my brocken tail section and my old mudguard. - Im gonna use them for the track, which so now i only need top and side fibreglass fairings.
