Hi There,
Im trying to get hold of some really high octane fuel.
Not your standard race gas.
Im after some gas with around 118 octane or even 120 octane.
anyone have any ideas where that type of fuel can be brought from in nz.
I know you can get that type of fuel from the states but importing it is expensive.
Please help.

doesn't get you much drunker any quicker ya know..
what do you want it for..??

Only thing I could think of is find someone with a pilots license and ask them to get you some AvGas

No good for you unless your running mega compression!
I've seen some Elf race fuel around, not sure where you get it from?

Anyone here live out Kumeu?

I gather that they sell high octane fuel from the petrol station on the left going into Kumeu. I have heard of this before, but then again in the weekend I was in at Repco and heard one of the counter staff mention it again.

Perhaps someone from there would care to confirm this.

I think you will find AvGas is only 100-105 octane, but you can just go to your local airfield and buy it nornally.

Thought jet fuel was way higher than that.. I've seen pump avgas at 110/115, can't remember which airfield it was tho..

What about CNG/LPG?

Unless there's a specific reason why you need high octane petrol (rules etc), have you considered methanol? Requires bigger jetting but has better anti-knock properties and is more tolerant of fuelling innaccuracies.

Just a thought in case you can't get high octane petrol.

You used to be able to buy various types of racing fuel from the oil companies.I think in Phill Irving's book Tuning for Speed he has a list of all the oil companies various fuels and their composistion. If you can't buy what you want - make your own.

Only trouble with meth is that its a bitch too get hold of, unless you know someone into making P.....
Plus you end up having to use twice the amount due to its fuel:air ratio being double the amount of petrol.

Yup - two miles to the gallon on my old supercharged drag bike running on a methanol nitro mix. :slap:

Orica supply methanol but not aware of any purchase restrictions in force.

methanol is ok, but it fucks petrol resistant o-rings, so you'd have to sort that out. it's fun when it catches fire too - no visible flame.

and jet fuel is kerosene based, so won't run a petrol engine (is ok in a diesel when mixed with a bit of oil though)

avgas has a lead content, and you'd need to do some research before running it in a high compression engine without some mods.

i'd love to see a bike on LPG - with a BBQ bottle on the back! wouldn't be too hard either, although you'd need a way of converting the bottle liquid/pressure to the low rate needed for a bike. i used to have a suzuki alto that was on lpg (ex city council car), and that went like a rocket! $5 return hamilton/tauranga! small units are always available on trademe/loot etc

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the many comments.
Sounds like the Kumeu pump is like the one at Puke, Its only aroun 100-105 octane similar to aviation avgas.
I need to get hold of some lead based high octane fuel to try somthing out.
Not looking to change to methonol.
Elf Racing fuels sounds like what I'm looking for, Will investigate that.
Thanks again.

You looking to run that dodgy old sidecar of yours on it?

did you run it at Paeroa?

Nah Mate not looking at running the ZX10 on it.
It would not handle it.
Yep ran and old Trident at Paeroa.
We flipped at the hairpin, have been knocked about at little bit, off work for a few weeks with a couple of fractures.
:doctor:
Also have found a supplier of high octane fuel.
ELF in Manukau can supply ELF Motto 124 (124 octane).
Exactly what I'm looking for.
Thanks to those who helped. :niceone:
