Those that use B&B when touring, what are your prerequisites? What things are important to you and what makes you decide to stay at a particular B&B??
And what are the things you DON'T want???
Just curious.:msn-wink:

A bit sad when you have to reply to you OWN posting but I'd really like some critical comment and I don't know any other way to get the thread noticed.:spudwhat:

Sorry Scumdog Rhino and I have never used B & Bs so can't comment. We have always used motels (one in Opononi provided breakfast), or camped/tented. Don't usually bother about a big breakfast but get something along the way - brunch.

So if you had the option of a place that also offered a good camping location as well as a B&B would you be interested? Would you stop there?

We have never ever, even thought of going to a B&B.
They just sound a lot dearer than a camp site.
So we are no help to you either, apart for the fact that they may be out of the norm for some people.

Maybe but for us would be camping facilities/motel units or cabins and a restaurant close by that provided dinner/breakfasts etc. if we wanted
Just my opinion. I am prepared to be shot! :ar15:

Now we're getting somewhere, what about a B&B at the same rate as an average motel PLUS your own privacy - but biker-friendly hosts with a lounge with TV/I.net connection AND safe bike storage??
But if you want, - a site for tents at the same location with shower/toilet right there?
And 1/2km to shops and also on SH1?

Used one at Phillip Island... prefect because:
Private, cheap, good quality, clean, comfortable, and close to Cowes - the after-race happening place.
The most important: Private, clean, comfortable, and close by what we want at the time.
Couldn't give a shit about the breakfast.
Didn't need to worry about security but I would if I was on the bikes. Friendly, helpful staff/hosts would be a bonus.
Don't wants: Unexpected 'extra' charges on the bill.

Hmm, no races here unless you create 'em but handy to the Catlins Coastal Route (you've heard of it, right?) otherwise as above - and brekky if you want .

The camping facilities are RIGHT THERE but the restaurant is 1.6km away - although Fish'n'Chips is available 1/5km away.
Fuel and garage 300metres away.
Gargre with most tools also RIGHT THERE.:woohoo: :niceone:

Well, get your sorry arse down here - with the knowledge you have a place you can count on to pitch your tent/shave a B&B or however you want to stay.
This is the gateway to peaceful uncluttered roads and marvelous scenery and wildlife - with various routes that lead off to Milford Sound, Queenstown or wherever you want to go (Jantar is just up the road - idb a little further on).

So long as the place is clean, I'm there.
I mean like, I don't wanna wake up to find dodgey stains on the sheet, and no explanation as to why they are there.
I mean..
Oh and swimming pool.

bike facilities are important, garage or carport, to pull all the bike crap off eg Panniers etc. and a place to store wet gear if ya get caught in crappy conditions.
a B&B is usually in a persons home, generally i feel slightly uncomfortble about staying in someones place and never actually relax.
where as a normal hotel motel etc i know its a business and not someones home.
so maybe a drink when i/they arrive to loosen them up.
the other thing is just publicity, if the price was right id be there.

MMM....lets see...we pretty fussy, we would never camp...just not our style...and anywayz....why be uncomfortable. As for a B+B...have used one once...but found that type of accomedation a little crowded....we travel as a couple and like privicy in the sack...where some screaming can occure without offending anyone....lol. We found motels are the best...a little dearer, but still worth it. Must defenetily have a spa bath/pool, kitchen facilities and queen size beds. A stereo, DVD player, Sky widescreenTV a must. As we said...we fussy..but I gotta keep the missus happy.....lol

Hmm, considering the fee is less than $100 by a bit I doubt if you'll find ALL those things here!!
C.B. is a screamer too so we could have a 'scream-off'?
Just kidding, bulk privacy here matey!

Let's deal with the bike's needs first: Secure, undercover parking.
And then the needs of the riders (in no particular order):
Plenty of room to remove and hang up wet gear
Maybe a a drying room
A great shower with unlimited hot water
Nice thirsty towels -- not too soft or too scratchy
Two-ply paper in the dunny
A good sized bed that doesn't squeak or groan, where the linen doesn't come untucked, with an electric blanket and pillows that don't go all poggly in the middle
A decent light for reading in bed
(For Mrs H) A powerpoint near a mirror for the purposes of hair-drying and general beautification
TV with Sky
A plunger coffee maker and some decent biscuits
A couple of decent lounge chairs for sitting in
Minimal road noise
A spa-pool (optional)
And a morning paper delivered.

Hmm, can do all except the spa pool - and we're working on THAT!
Oh, TWO daily papers - but sadly no Sky - ain't that rich yet!! (and you're on holiday, right?)
The rest? yep, can do and with country friendliness and lack of stress.

We ran a B&B for several years, probably more fun keeping it budget , tent sites and bunk room with basic cooking facilities. Shower, fuck the TV . Internet a bonus and workshop. RTW bikers like it that way, BMW rental bikers like the best. I pick up a lot of bikers at work and take them home to stay in the shaggy shed free of charge, Its my way of repaying the biker community for the help and fun I had in North America. Toddy

Spent a south island cage tour staying at B&B's ... so my 2c
1. Locks on doors.... always a must
2. Privacy and soundproofish (snoring from the next room not a good look, or anything else for that matter :shit: )
3. Always was fantastic awaking the smell of fresh baked bread (a couple of places had a breadmaker)
4. Bathroom to be tidy and nice towels
5. Reasonable prices (but I am always happy to pay for quality)

We stayed at a B&B once at Opua. It had a semi-detached unit, the owners were pleasant and deaf. (or pretended to be).
These days we want comfort, privacy, covered parking if poss, spa bath (to ease those achey bones). We always go for walking distance to local restaurants, unless there's one on site.

Well if it's your B & B I'll definitely grace it with my disgusting personal habits.
Might have to be next year though, I don't think we can get that far in April.
