Well I've just got my bike going last weekend and I want to take it some where, somewhere where the road on the way there is pretty cool. I recon that the coast, or at least to Otira, would be an excellent trip to do. Since the weather reports recons it'll be SW, but with highs of 26 and 20 in Chch and Hoki respectively, I think tomorrow (Sat!), would be an excellent day to go. If any of you guys are keen to go, post a reply here before 10am, and I'll meet you out at the Yaldy Tavern by 11am (not for a beer on the way out! - but I might shout you one at the bealy on the way back).
If you're not sure, can I temp you with this image? I promise the weather will be better!:

Slaving away in the garage working on the friggen bike. It went well today, but I think the rear tyre has actually absorbed oil from when I dumped it on the road. Its got perfect grip, but it suddenly starts going waaaayyyy out once you lean past a certain point. Me thinks the rubber gets compressed there, squeezing the oil out of it - and the only place it can end up is between the tyre and the road :pinch:. The engine is all good though - I hit the rev limiter in 3rd going up the otira viaduct, and it used to struggle hitting it in 2nd.
But I didn't bin it, and its running really well so I'm all happy. Defo need to do some tuning though - it should be doing 20km/l, not the measly 18km/l it is at the moment. There were lots of bikes out on the road too.
One thing that REALLY bugged me, was a I got stuck behind a cop for 50 friggen km. Luckily it was a straight boring road anyway, so nothing special was ruined. Whats the chances of not getting pulled over if I pass a cop? I wasn't really willing to find out - but I could have done it and with out exceeding 110km/h too!

I measured the consumption of my cbr over about 7000kms and it averaged out at just a tip over 6L/100km so your 18km/l isn't too bad.
