hi guys, thinking seriously about buying my first bike.

not too concerned with how difficult it is to pick up, just don't want to get bored with it too quickly so looking at some of the quicker bikes. Have seen an fzr250r for sale for $4.5K on here and just wondering how these fit into the mix. Are these as quick as cbr250r's or an rgv250. What's a decent price for one of these too?

I have a cbr250rr & I think it is a damn fast first bike. I get alot of wanabe boy racers pull up beside me at traffic lights reving their engines & beeping there horns. i reply back by reving & tooting back. Then the long wait I rev it to 6,000 rpm & wait for the green light then GREEN I slowly let out the clutch as I hea the engine roar to life trying not to give too much gas too quickly so can keep the wheel on the ground. 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100kph where was that turbo charged subarus now? eating my dust that's where. So from an owner of a cbr250rr I highly recomend this bike. There are faster 2 stroke bikes but I've been told by a bike mechanic they break down alot. I got mine for $4360 off trademe.co.nz check it out there are others on there. the 1990 & 1991 have 45hp but the 1992 & newer only have 40hp
heres a 1994 one http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Motorbikes/Motorbikes/Sports-tourer/auction-49014400.htm

Wrong, its from 94 onwards the bikes were restricted mate. Anyway. The FZR250r is a good bike to learn with, it teaches some good skills as well as not being fast enough to kill you.

the fzr would be a great bike to learn on, im not very knowledgeable with them but a mate has one and the electrics are crap and his head is bung [not sure how]. and they arent anywhere near as fast as an rgv250

nope it's definately 1992 onwards which only have 40hp. I got my info from here. lucky for me I have a 1991 which has 45hp. Still nothing compared to my next bike (cbr600rr) 117hp & does the 400m in 11.2 seconds. Damn fast

Stay away from the 2 strokes for your first bike. If you want one, want until you've ridden a 4 stroke for at least 6 months.

FZR is a good little bike.

... not being fast enough to kill you.

...you mean It can't go 100k???

The fxr150 is quite easily fast enough to kill you so I would suggest the same for a 40hp bike.

Had an RGV250 Walter Wolf special and believe me you need to ride really respectfully on them, absolute beginners need not apply.

No other 250 (well maybe the Aprillia RS250) is faster but they are insane bikes to try to tame. I sold mine as it was a maintanence nightmare and tried to kill me all the time.

The Yammy would be a far cooler choice, speed but without the deathwish.
