Spotted this over the weekend on the road that leads south from Taupo. Had to stop and take a pic, its proof someone down there has a sense of humour.

Considering the fashion at the mo' is to broadcast inexplicable ads to "pique the viewers' interest" and then eventually following them up with the ad in which all is revealed, the same brain-damaged room-temperaure IQ Marketroids are probably now making the signage for the road. In a few weeks they may well put up something like "travelling at above average speeds" or something equally trite, hoping that we still actually give a fuck what the stupid signs were about.
The fifties gave us annoying jingles about the benefits of soap, the late nineties until now give us the serialised advert-in-five-exciting-episodes...
Unfortunately, our backwards judicial system still think marketroids are human so we're not allowed to kill them
Good on whoever furnished their own (probably more appropriate) sequitur.

Have you guys not seen these signs before? They're all over the place, "Lose your confidence, save your life", "I cant drive tired", "Warning, over confident drivers ahead", "I cant text and drive", and, of course, "I'm just an average driver". There's probably a few more, those are all I can remember off the top of my head.

Clearly not aimed at helping those with depression...

Or "I concentrate more on signs than my driving"

Oh woe is me (sob)
I'd rather keep my eyes on the road than read signs. Never understood what those numbers in those red circles meant anyway

I think they're meant to tell you how many dick-head cagers are ahead of you crawling along at snail's pace...

Yeah I saw that one approaching Taupo. What a shit message to give out. Over-confidence can be bad, for sure...but what are they trying to advocate? Fear the machines and the act of driving/riding...like that's going to make anyone better at it...

'tis not confidence people should loose, 'tis false confidence or ego or cockiness. True confidence is what can save your life.
Thinking you're Possum Bourne when you've got less than a year's experience is not "confidence", it's clinical stupidity.

I think it looks better when put this way...
"I'm just an average driver, but a bloody fantastic motorbike rider."

Heh... we had a vigorous discussion about some of the signs near Maramarua last time we went through. Y'know - like the one that says:
"49% of accidents happen on bends" = It's safer to go around corners than drive on straight roads.
We thought up some good ones, like:
"15% of accidents are caused by reading stupid signs like this one."
"Most accidents are caused by impatient drivers overtaking inconsiderate drivers."
"Just Another Pointless Sign"
"32% of our road taxes go to advertising agencies thinking up dumb ideas like stupid signs on the side of the road"
"If you drink and drive, you're probably thirsty."
"Stay Alert! Mind-Numbingly Boring Speed Limit Ahead!"

marginally safer.
And have you considered the + or - 3.5% margin of error? :bleh:
