View Full Version : Cranford St strikes again - Another car crash.

Already seen two major accidents living where I am, and here's another into the mix. Corner Cranford Street and Winton Street. Not exactly sure what happened, but there were a couple of loud bangs, the lights in the house flickered (later found out neighbour's power is out completely) then steadied. I grabbed my camera... :niceone:
Just got back inside.

And the last few.
Apologies for the generally poor photography - was tying not to be too obvious
Sure is handy to have a decent zoom though. Check the ambulance light in the wing mirror... :D

Kinda hard to see who was travelling where, must of hit pretty hard. Any pedistrians injured? Sunstrike? :sunny:
Used to have a few boys races on Geraldine Street (couple blocks east for you geographically challenged).
Best impact I've seen though was out of Ilam Road, intersect with Wairakei Road. Nissan Terrano 'missed' the corner and jumped the curb into a wall made of volcanic stone. Completely snapped the front axle and shoved the engine block up and back, but had little body damage. The driver (DUI) attempted to drive off. Would have been funny if she wasn't drunk.

First thing I thought of... post the carnage on KB. Hehe..
Don't think anyone was hurt. Both cars had driver and passenger airbags, and all airbags were deployed. The Toyota (as can be seen in one of the pics in my first post) was smoking pretty badly as it had a fuel leak, but happily the smoke stopped and it didn't explode (though that might've made things interesting... )

Hey... whoever moved this, I'm sorry it was started in the wrong forum. But holy heck, talk about shooting me down in flames with red rep for an honest mistake. Taken me forever just to get two green blob things, and then wham. Never had red rep until just then... I don't think I'll get out of red now!:crybaby:

This has been on my mind all day now, and now I'm just plain annoyed. Whoever moved this thread to Rant and Rave, maybe it wasn't in the right forum. But I challenge you to look throught the first few pages of General Discussion (where this was originally posted) and not find at least 5 other threads that strictly speaking are in the wrong forum. There are two others that are on exactly the same topic as this one.
So, did I deserve to get slammed with so much negative rep, just for posting this in the wrong forum (and surely that's open to debate, as this sure as hell didn't start off as a rant)? I don't think so.
I've tried hard not to do anything wrong since joining here, and let's face it, I'm still a new member, and this came with no warning, just whammo. If I haven't had anything constructive to add or haven't anything nice to say, I don't post at all. But this to me is very severe and unfair treatment... it's been on my mind enough that I've got my back up about it. I got out of bed specifically to make this post as it won't leave me alone.
I think I deserve an explanation at minimum.
Thanks for your time.

Oh dear. I'm sorry about your rep. I didn't move it (and I certainly didn't red rep you), but here's some green to try to compensate

Thanks Ixion, appreciate it.
For the record: I was given 300 points of negative rep for this. I had 110 beforehand, and was suddenly at -190 from three consecutive bad reps, same person (no idea who).
A few people seem to agree that I've been treated heavy handed and have green repped me (much appreciated to those who did). This has brought me back up to -153 rep. So as you can tell, it takes a hell of a lot of bling to overcome such a slamming. And I sure don't think I deserved to be slammed in the first place.

I remember the head on accident I had years back, Got hit by a car that failed to take a bend. Decent impact 80 kmh verse 60 kmh, both cars almost 1 meter shorter.
In my car injuries weren't too bad , the usual stuff from seatbelts ,bruising , whiplash. Couple of rear passengers got facial cuts. One was passing in and out of consciousness through shock.
Other car, Broken ribs, smashed noses and stuff like that. The main thing was no one died.
I remember whilst trying to help people out of the cars with the help of other motorists. (Both 2 door coupes with doors smashed shut)
Some prick from the public started taken f@cking photo's. (The accident had blocked the road between Taupo and Turangi on state HW1) I asked him to stop and give people a hand. He took a few more photos.
Needless to say his camera is probably still sitting on the bottom of Lake Taupo. And was lucky not to get a hiding from my 6'2 mate who's girlfriend was crying in the back with blood running over her eyes from a gash
I thought, what an absolute prick, why do people get off on taking photos of someone else’s car accidents.
Mate your posting fall into the similar category, Do you get off this type of thing? Your not 100 % sure if people weren’t injured, Why do you feel that you need to post other people's misery on the internet. Have you given any thought to what they might think about the pics being published ?
I think you red rep is more to do with content rather than where you've posted it. I don't know why people would have bothered giving green rep for this. (WTF)
If I was a mod I’d probably remove this thread …. F@cking bad taste mate.

Im sure everyone was ok mooch. just because you had a bad experience it doesnt mean we should shut down this wonderful thing they call the interweb. After all you were looking at the pictures too. Yeah accidents are horrible but thats the way it goes. The rep was not for the pics.

Yup - what D said. Looks like the main man red repped ya. He does it to us all daft enough to post in the wrong section from time to time. Apparently he gets really pissed off when he has to move posts, it chews into his porn surfing time so Joni tells me.
:chase:
Now grow some balls, stop whinging, and have some green rep courtesy of the Biffmeister to cheer you up.
:wari:<<< still my favourite smiley.

I wouldn't have minded the red rep for the thread being moved - if there weren't so many other threads in GD that could quite easily be moved by the same reasoning, and I wasn't given so much bad rep. 10 points of it would have hurt me enough, but 300? Hell, I'm still new, and there as no warning, nothing. Pretty heavy handed I thought.
It's been semi sorted anyway. Can't say I like the whole messy saga, but there you go. I'm sure they had a good reason to do what they did, even if I'm not party to it. I'd just as soon lay it to rest.
And Mooch, I'm sorry if I've offended you. I'd explain myself and the situation, but I'd somehow suspect my explanation wouldn't really help much. So instead I'll just say I'm sorry for having caused offence. I can see your point of view.

I agree with you getting pissed off with that guy Mooch, continuing to take pics after you requested help from him was pretty lousey, and deserved a punch in the face. However, if I was in a crash (especially one where I wasnt at fault) and I saw someone snapping away, I'd probably ask him for a copy. You never know if your gonna need them later on.
Dont get me wrong, what you described is right up there with the bastards that kept taking pictures of Diana's crash (ignoring for a sec that they had a lot to do with the accident in the first place). I'm just saying if any of you are involved in a prang and you see someone getting evidence of what happened, then it would pay to grab a copy of it.

Cheers WRT , and thanks Deviant , and I see that the victim and causer aren't in the pics so sorry for being OTT. It took a few years for the accident flash backs to stop, neck still gives trouble now and then. Ended up getting the car pics from the wrecker. It just wasn't on that the girls got photo's taken whilst still in the car.

A steady diet of investigative reporting and reality TV has turned us into ghouls.... Not a positive gain IMHO....
I suspect if the Titanic was to strike an iceburg tomorrow the news choppers would be there first, followed by the sea bound press on jet skis, followed by prune faced big titted 'news reporters' asking for interviews (while people are still floating and dying) followed by chasing down of refrigeration engineers to find out whoose fault the ice was....
The advertising revenues would be massive....
More pictures, right after this break....
