No, Buggy, not one of 'those' ones......
Strange as it might seem I had a dream that the biker fraternity pooled their wisdom & money to take Transit & their contractors to court. Yes...we took out a private action against them for criminal neglect and attempted murder. The specifics of the charges included things like substandard & dangerous road repairs, patches, tarsnakes, holes and ridges (always right on our lines). Not sure if we won since I woke up before I got to this bit.
Do you think we could win something like this?? And what would be the result??
Ideas, anyone??

.....hmmmm....I know it was only a pipedream, but wouldn't it be nice to tackle this sort of issue in this way?

Got told to make a claim against them for no roadsigns out at fresh reseal when I dropped it 3 years ago. Didn't follow thru but was told others have been paid out.

That has and does happen. But signs do get nicked so 'may not' have been the contractor's fault per se. Tarsnakes seem to be the most hated of all repairs. Surely there is another material suitable for filling that doesn't cause slippage, and can the contractors be made to use it?

my personal favourite is when they lay nice new black top and leave the man hole covers and any other inspection plates sitting a foot below the road surface, must be some real smart people round aye

Yeah, road building seems to be a technology completely beyond our grasp in this country. They are often shit when they are brand new. Makes you weep when you see some of the roads they have in Europe. On the other hand, I spent a few months in the Solomon Islands - a genuine third world country with a basket case government. While driving on the main roads over there I thought "holy fuck, these roads are exactly like ours". Well, more potholes but the construction and overall "smoothness" was pretty much identical. I guess it's not that surprising when you see who actually builds our roads - not really the cream of the country's engineering talent, is it?

It's not a bad dream if you consider it a civil case asking for punitive damages. Smokers have taken cases like that. You'd need someone like that Harder guy (that just got struck off) could be worth a penny or two.

Good idea, but as they don't want to include motorcycles as motor vehicles in the census, why would they be interested in them for roading purposes?

Was a discussion on the radio yesterday, didn't catch it all but someone was complaining about Transits policy of accepting the lowest bid. This being false economy due to the ongoing problems resulting from cheap repairs and builds. Obviously the pollies are aware of it, at least some are, but the more noise we all make about it the more likely something will be done. Of course the whole issue of roadbuilding is a hot topic now, so maybe the media should be persuaded to bring it to the fore?
