Well I decided because I hang out in this area of the site I would just put a little profile about myself up so you know who Iam.
I'm Wellyman or Dan,
Ride a 2003 Honda CRF230F backed by my work Atomic Bike Wreckers.
I'm based on the shore in dorkland and do alot of riding at Woodhill and all around the north island. I have raced GNCC for 2 years but took a year off this year because of family things. You can normally see me at most north island trail rides racing around on my CRF230 #588 as I ride when possible.
I work part time at Atomic Bike Wreckers on saturday mornings with Spencer and sometimes his son Daniel aswell.
My sponsorship deal with the shop started a while after I joined the shop, and it has helped me along and Spencer has been great to deal with about everything( thanks alot mate). I couldn't also to forget to mention Rodger down at Action Bike Wreckers who owns both the shops and also is a great help.
Also I would like to thank:
Blue Wing Honda for the shiny new bike they gave me a few years ago, Northern Accerories for the free gear that came with the bike, My family,Dave (Firefight) for all the great advice , cheers bud.,White Trash (the biggest sh*t talker),Riff Raff -for all the support and for the photos that you took on that day at Ardmore.
Thanks and see ya out on the trails!

nice to meet you, i used to love motox bikes (ktm sx125 the last) but the rush at 200 + km/h on a sportsbike can't be beaten i reckon.

joking man. the KTM bikes are nice but you can't beat a japper! the repair bils are cheaper (although I ride a Honda so you don't have to repair them)

And you ride an overbored XR200 :Pokey:
They are crap.
Oh, they're alright if you like that good brakes, good suspension, good engine type thing - Don't like the seat though.
Harden up and get a 1980 XR200, put on some old dirt leathers and go VMX'ing :grouphug:

eh hem! I don't ride a gutless farm bike! the CRF range have way better components then the old XR farm and slow trailriding bikes. Get a CRF man! they rock.

I bet my 4-st has more guts than your 2-st.
I could cover a workbench with the guts from mine.
Your's would only take up a small corner.

Any pre '80 CRF's on trademe?
An alloy swingarm from a PE or RM is the next step for the seXR (apart from some dyno time) and then the 6-speed.
I could get some crf rad shrouds and put them on but that would look silly on an aircooled bike.

Dude!!!!
when was the last time you rode a Modern F stroke dirt bike???
cause to be honest, In a nice way, a new bike will always shit all over a old bike anyday of the week.
just it seems all the GOOD riders ride old bikes, And there are quite a few AVERAGE riders on new bikes.

The CRF230 was the biggest selling dirtbike in Australia last year and it's farmers that are buying them.
XR's were originally meant to be enduro bikes.
The 250 will beat the 230.
The 200 won't.
The 230 has more/better power, suspension, brakes (love that front disk), handling, electric start.
The 200 has the better seat.
Both will go like stink if you wind them open.
I'm 6'2" and 100kg and look (and feel) ridiculous on both.
I've got my perfect bike.
250 to haul my arse around and being a 1979 has a nice wide plush seat to make my arse comfortable whilst doing it
Oh, and I bought my XR off a farmer :)

Super Hunky writing in the latest VMX mag says he has a CRF230 and loves it.
He's been doing a series on hotting it up for his on-line articles apparently.

Dan,
just chill man, don,t let them wind you up, I have seen you ride both in the forest and at the moto x tracks, your a good rider, and your bikes a good bike, the more you reply the more they get in to you, forget it, Riff and WT have seen you ride and they think your cool, do you remember that young Swedish dude. he won a class in the GNCC at woodhill a couple of years ago on a CRF230, he beat all those rich dudes on the Yams ,Ktms, Kawas and sukis ? he didn't give a shit what people said, he just enjoyed his win..:2thumbsup
everyone was spewing at him. . don,t worry about what others say man just be your self, and be proud of what you have achived so far.

The RE model, about 86/87 I think - they were a grenade and too heavy, but they were fast....for awhile.

I'm on the same page as FF as well. some of these kids need to grow up before they open their mouths.
FF that guy was Mike Lundin. I got along well with him, he helped me pick my bike up at one of the GNCC when I had bailed off bad.
Ride On!

84 and 85 the XR200R used RFVC engines (The 84 XR200 used the normal one).
They went back to the old engine in 86.

You got it. The XR200RE with RFVC and twin carbs came out in 1984 - different frame, 17'' rear wheel when replacing the XR200RD of 1983. The motors were crap and had too many failures so they returned to the 2 valve engine but stayed with the new frame. Personally the D fitted me better I liked the old frame with full 18" rear wheel and when standing on the pegs the D was narrower, whereas the later ones I found the bloody frame tube dug into my ankles even through my boots. Also the D had a cable operated rear brake (still all drum then) which didn't lock up or chatter when braking on bumps. Unfortunately the CRF230 still has that dumbass rod operated drum brake on the rear.
Once the XR200's stopped being road legal they also lowered the seat height and put shorter front forks in them - can't rememebr the exact year that happened but was early to mid 90's so they weren't as dirt capable then. The CRF doesn't look like its got very long forks either but I can't comment as I haven't ridden one, but again I still say the XR200RD of 1983 was the best one they built and the CRF would have to be pretty good to beat one of those.
