View Full Version : Getting the learn!

Been doing a few open days at Ruapuna recently, my lap times while not anywhere near record smashing have been respectable, from what I've been told. So with my confidence at new heights I went out a few weeks back on a Tuesday, only to find some of the production superbike teams and 600 production racers out there practicing for the NZGP. There was 4 of us out there including bren_chch, who went around the teams informing them we would be on the track as well. No problem they said, just ride your lines, we'll get around you. And oh boy did they!!!

So here's my excuses:

1/ I'm on a 9yr old GSXR750 (at the time) on street tyres with 57,000km old suspension.
2/ They are racers on new bikes intended for racing (ie trick suspension etc).
3/ Ah who cares, these boys (and girls) are seriously quick.

Download the video here (http://219.88.254.70/) to see me getting the learn from some of NZ's best racers. It's titled 'Getting the learn' (really??) and is about 5mins long with audio and about 30mb in size. Enjoy, and please don't take the piss too bad.

(In case you haven't seen the other vids, 'practice attempts' is mucking around on the back wheel with me and bren, 'Ruapuna' is a couple of laps of me at the track.)

hell they were all cheating using both arms, like bringing a gun to a sword fight! but seriously I would say that was hardly receiving the learn!

Nice riding OAB, but like sAsLEX said, I think they are cheating.

Any chance of making the videos available as a zip file? Cheers.

Damn IT dept at work won't let us download avi, mpg, mov files  but zip files with videos can get through

Thanks for the comments and rep guys. I can't wait to get the 1k out there, the handling alone will be a huge improvement. Ruapuna is a technical circuit with mostly 1st and 2nd gear corners, should make for interesting experience.

ZZR, I'll see what I can do. Shouldn't be a problem.

On street tyres including the dipper I've managed a few low 1:52's. Although it sounds like a lot I reckon the new bike is worth another 3-4 seconds off that, mostly from better suspension.

(the fast clubman racers on slicks are doing 1:44-45's from what I've been told, production superbikes doing it in a jaw-dropping-reality-checking 1:33!)

Mate I have just had a look at getting the learn and more practice:finger:

Good job.

Hopefully some of the guys up this way are going to find a prcatice road. Saves scaring the cages when passing on one wheel:ride:

Anyway well done:spudflip:
