The road won : (

And not but 30 seconds earlier I was congratulating myself on my incredible ability to go through nearly a year of newbie riding without coming off too.
The little FXR came out reasonably ok with only a little cosmetic damage thanks to its incredible flexo-fairings which managed to stay together, but the engine packed a sad and didnt want to start anymore.
Still cant work out how exactly it happened though. Was straightening up after coming through the Greville Road roundabout when the front wheel just shot out from under me and frankly, ruined my morning.
Anyway, made it to uni on time and afterwards a friend helped to get it going again so she lives on with few odd noises and in need of a new brake lever and some new fluid.
and some new tyres.

Anyone know of a friendly mechanic on the shore who can check her out for me and make sure she's ok for my restricted test on the 7th?

see, ya jinxed it..

I assume it's not ridable at all?
I don't mind popping over some time during the weekend to have a look if you like..

Glad you're ok tho ;)

I rode it home ok (rather gingerly) with said friend following close behind after we got it started. It seems to run ok but im sure half a brake lever isnt quite WOF standard : (
Over-confidence was killed instantly though.

Depends on. If the lever is just shortened , but still usable, then it should be OK for a WoF.

Glad to hear you survived the bin.... perhaps slippery road surface?

Thats not good mate. Im glad you could walk away from it. Those fxrs are pretty tough bikes. Im sure if you went into any of the bike shops on barrys point road and explained the situation they will help you out. Cast an eye and ear over it for ya.

Did it happen on the roundabout down by the motorway? Thats a nasty one because its WAY off camber.

I go to Spectrum Motorcycles on Des Swan Drive in Takapuna. There is also the Suzuki place, is it holeshot?

Brent/Greg have seen me right over three bikes, two of them RG 150 types. They generally do trail bikes, but service road bikes too. Generally not a issue to get a service in a timely manner.

Always been straight up with me.

Glad no serious injury, just pride dented it seems. Must have good gear yeah?

yeah, I always use Spectrum for my bike...

Try Atomic Wreckers just down the road for a lever if they haven't got any (which I doubt, cos they don't really break bikes..)

I can still fit two fingers on it, but i dont fancy my chances with the testing officer..

Yup. My old man works for the roading division of the shore city council too. Maybe for my birthday he can fix it.

Jacket gained a few patches and the helmet survived without having to do its job, the jeans of ultimate protection didnt do their job though. I'd post some pictures of my small patch of manly road rash but I landed on my phone.

I agree that Spectrum are awesome.

Brent's always helped me and my bro out with our bikes sometimes giving us rediculously low prices on parts ($50 for a pair of CBR250RR pegs w/ levers when Atomic wanted something like $80ea)

That piece of road has every type of slippery shit known to man spilt on it.
Don't feel bad about binning there. I damn near get off and walk when it's wet.

You'll be right brother, they make the levers snapable, saves the master cylinder casting from busting, because that's expensive...

Stink to hear HAZ... Lucky you didnt get hurt though. I`ll put in a 2nd word for spectrum bikes in takapuna. Theyve done magic on our dirt bikes and really friendly, helpful bunch too ;)

Will need the ball end to pass (I think).

My clutch lever on the VT250 was welded back together and passed ok and the weld held very nicely. I had to bash it quite hard to break it off again (I liked it short :D )

Ixion
3rd March 2006, 22:15
Nope ball end is irrelevant. In fact older bikes didn't have 'em. Needs to be usable and effective, that's all. But if it's snapped so short you can only get two fingers on the stub, it'll prolly fail.

Just took her into Spectrum so hopefully she's done by monday. Looks like there might be a little less work to be done than I initially though, but it was still 20 or so kick starts before she fired up..

Bummer Haz, at least you are ok, that roundabout is a dog! Often have seen spills of oil and other crap on the road. Spectrum are great and highly recommended.

Thankfully u came out of it alright. Bins are a confidence killer, but bear the following info in mind when beating yourself up over this ......
Roundabouts on the shore seem more diesel laden than anywhere I have ridden. I binned my GF250 at the Birkenhead roundabout on some diesel, thank goodness I was only creeping around slowly. Must be all the Diesel 4wd's, and small trucks spilling their go-juice everywhere.

Awesome! Well done mate. Such a good feeling riding without those peculiar and annoying restrictions, esp when you haven't been abiding by them.:ar15:
Even better when ya get the full license!
