Hey Everyone - keep 30th April free - the Metzeler Elephant Run is on again.

All you gotta do is get a bunch of mates together, and turn up at the Taupo track - and if you're riding on Metzeler tyres you go into the draw to win heaps of cool free stuff.

There's also going to be the chance for a couple of short sessions on the track, club racing on the day for you to watch for entertainment, and food available.
Post classic racing legend Vince Sharpe, and current 600 Sports Production champ Craig Shirriffs will also be there for you to have a chat and / or get some riding tips.

Plan to arrive around 11am if you want to ride the track and get in on the prize draws.

And don't forget if you need some new tyres before then - fit Metzelers and then you'll be in to WIN free stuff - helmets, jackets, boots, tyres.

If you aren't riding on Metzelers you're still welcome - in fact everyone who comes along and signs up will get a discount voucher for your next set of tyres - Metzelers of course!!

See you there!!

Sounds like a plan. I'm going to be looking for some new tyres around that time and was looking at Metzlers anyway.

yo MT, you wanna catch up for this one?

Eh? I thought last time everyone went in the draw just for turning up??? Maybe I remembered wrong or did the rules change? Doesn't really seem worth it though to come all the way up from Wgtn if you have to have Metzelers on.

In saying that, last time it was a bit of fun hooning up there, but what a mission for one day!

Should be a good day but can't see many fronting if bike is on other brand tyres.
Thought the idea was to get the tyres out in the marketplace. Nothing works better than word of mouth. I wouldn't buy a set just to try them out as others with heavier bikes don't recommend them (ME880, lighter bikes seem OK though) Though I would trial a set if I won them to check out the issues for myself and compare them with what I have. Now I guess that I will stick with the brand that sticks. :spudwave: this smiley face wont be going to this one, sorry guys, sorts of looses the point somewhat.

We are hoping to bring a few bikes up from the Bay. Slow riders fast riders and all in between. I hope to lead the slower group out 20 minutes before the faster bikes leave. Should all arrive at the same time. track time sounds like the go. Yea Kornholio.. ..lets give him the learn.......:dodge: ........

Does one count? I am running a Metz front at the mo!

OK everone heres the rub - while we would LOVE to give everyone a prize just for turning up if we did that the company would have no money left to pay me..... my kids would go hungry and barefoot... ( sob, sob)... soooooo the deal is if you want the chance to win some COOL prizes just chuck a set of Metzelers on yer bike!
And were not "preaching to the converted" - its called rewarding loyal customers.... after all they've shelled out thier hard earned dosh.

Its a win win really - get some GOOD rubber on your bike and you could win big... and if your not in the market for tyres, come along anyway for a fun ride ( thats what biking is about is't it?) and don't forget that just by turning up you WILL get a discount voucher for your next set of tyres - see.... nobody goes away empty handed.

The ride on the track is administered by Auckland Motorcycle Club - so when we say there is "a chance to ride" we mean IF you are early enough ( numbers will be limited) and have the acceptable riding gear and pay the club some dosh then you CAN have a ride on the track - looking like 2 x 15 min sessions at this stage.

See ya there!

Got a front tyre to match Sport Demon in 100/80 x 17 or similar. And how's about a price incentive now?? See http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showpost.php?p=549691&postcount=1

Who from Wellywood is going to this? I suggest we meet up and ride en masse to Taupo and have ourselves a jolly good time. Last year was a bloody hoot. This is a good meet involving bikers from all over the country so lets support it.

Now that's smart white man talk!!

I hear that the stuntwars thing was a bit of a hit. Drew still can't stop his ugly head wobbling.

The three week trip to AK in May has been binned too fuck it so I won't be coming up after all. Already spent my allowances too. FUCK

The man performed mate, what can I say. Third gear stand ups by the end of the day.

You're just scared of coming up and getting the learn from an 18 year old bike with no brake on stunt gearing.

I wouldn't buy a set just to try them out as others with heavier bikes don't recommend them (ME880, lighter bikes seem OK though). How heavy a bike are you looking at? "Roxanne" (CBR1000FL) at 230Km dry runs really well on her Z6's (I wouldn't put anything less on her) and I am known for riding long distances with the "kitchen sink" on her. I get well over 10,000km out of the rear alone with Z6's without any loss of traction. Good in the wet. Best dam tyre for bikes of "Roxanne's" class (Sport/Super Sport Tourers) IMHO.

0900 isn't really a realistic departure time for me though, I've seen 200km/h, but I can't average it :).

Hi All - have just spoken to Auck M/C club who are organising the track sessions, and they are planning on two 15 min sessions, costing $20.00 ( for both, not each) Times will be approx 11.00 am and 2.00 pm depending on how their race schedule progresses.

At the end of the day i was the only one left keen on more track time :shit:
Oh well, had a blat round by myself :first:

Thanks to Forbes & Davies for the tack time

Was a good day for my family,

But you should've turned up so I could watch you wobble around the sweeper with everyone else!! Those 3 creeks running across it were bloody dodgy. They bucked more than 1 person off.

Then again, maybe not.
Turns out we're a bunch of pussies. Far too precious to get wet.The wet was fine. It was the COLD and wet on the desert road (twice) that I found irksome. Otherwise it was okay. When I go to Levin in the morning, I nearly changed to my mirrortint visor, it was lovely.

At the end of the day i was the only one left keen on more track time :shit:Oh well, had a blat round by myself :first: I wanted too, but then I had to get going (I didn't want to do Desert road in the dark..) and it looked like rain. Good on you for hanging around, I did until they called 'Post Classics Junior' and then left. I imagine you were on after them.

Mum won a new Jacket and Dad won a set of tyres!Nice! Tyres are not cheap, they are a really good prize just for being there. And helmets and boots.

Oh yea;

WHAT A COOL LITTLE TRACK!!!!!! Loved it. It makes Manfield look like the Nürburgring! Great surface too, actually better than a public road. I need to come back there one day and really get to know it.

I couldn't get a braking point sorted for the first corner. I was always too early. Was sweet with the last corner though, despite the water. I am sure that water had a little oil in it though, I mean, I was nursing through that last little stream, and I got just a teeny tiny itsy bitsy bit crossed up. Very odd.

kiwifruit
30th April 2006, 21:39
they let me on the track at 4pm, after all the races had finished.
the marshalls stayed out for another 10 minutes, just so i could blat around!
Bloody good show.
Fair enuf, the desert road in the wet (and dark) is far worse than a damp track.
The pools of water on the last turn were a worry aite, after i saw how slow the pros were going thru it i knew it would be slippery as.
Got crossed up in there too, being a Nana!
