How about sharing yours with other road riders.
My favorite ride is from Westgate in west auckland up SH16 to turn right onto Old north road. ending up half an hour later in kaukaupakaupa. Keep going north to Welllsford. 10 km north turn right to Mangawhai.
Stop for lunch at mangawhai then head back the way I came.

I do this exact ride except i go up Scenic Drive then go up Old North Road, and enjoy it emensly. I also love the clevdon to hunua ride and SH22..... i also have some blasting roads, ie a short distance which is very twisty and go as fast as i can, but generally dont break the speed limit, such as Twilight Road just before Clevdon, some parts of scenic drive, Lovers Lane, but only on a real quiet day (that 40kmh speedlimit is overated....) Theres a few more but i cant think of them of the top of my head....

We go Redoubt rd-papakura-hunua gorge-mangatawhiri-mercer-22-rangiriri-huntly-22-mercer-mangatawhiri-clevedon-manukau fairly often,or,not turn off to rangiriri and just do 22 both ways.
Otherwise the coromandel loop is sweet,or whangamata and back via miranda.
Do old nth-16-wellsford fairly often, but there's always cops up that way now :Police: ....

This subject has been done before, but thats cool because it gives me time to think about it and I need lots of time for thinking.
I don't have one fav' road but I have roads that I love to ride for different reasons. The Waiuku -Awhitu rd is right on my doorstep and I've ridden it more than any other road in the country. It's my fast road,I normaly go up in sightseeing mode an come back down as hard as I can.Highway 22,I lived at Naike for three years and have liked the road ever since.I Hit a sheep out there and wrote off my T110 TRIUMPH.It hasn't changed much in twenty years, still a place to watch for stock.
The old Taupo road has always been #1 as that is the road I learnt to ride on,Lot's of good memories out there,Still got a few scars to prove it.
The Coro' loop I Discovered that place at the same time as I met my wife. We've done that one togeather lot's of times.A real NZ classic. The east cape and the Motu,What can ya' say,Dreams can come true out there.
The road I live on,Tight twisty bits, wide open smooth an fast bits,Gravel in a different place each time, off cambers,Sudden drops, blind apex's,And a pub at the end.Don't get much better than that but don't make a mistake,You'll pay for it.

1) The greatest = Milford Road (In summer!) .. look out for busses & take your shades off before riding into the Homer Tunnel ! I could spend a week in TeAnau rideing this 3 times a day... might need to pack a replacement set of tyres :D
2) Highway (52?) Masterton To Waipukurau (Another summer road.. the moss gets a tad slippery over winter.
3) Another Nice summer’s Day ride = Lewis Pass – Arthur’s Pass, Haast Pass - Lindis Pass – 1200 odd km good training ride for 1000 milers.
4) Anywhere the Fuzz aren’t. :2thumbsup

Doesn't matter they are all good as long as i get to come back up the hamilton side of the kamais i am a happy chappy, i just often ride to matamata just so i can ride back up the hill again. Espically good when the misses is there, cause we can race each other up the hill

I've been itching to post, but I can't help but think that there'll be some bod on my favourite road, hiding in a bush with a laser gun after seeing this thread. It'd be a fair cop most likely, but you just don't know who is reading the site.
I'm not paranoid; they are out to get me!

My favourite quickie is out to Bethells. Good tight twisties close to town, just look out for locals in winter - they think they own the road and expect the otyher side to be empty. In summer they keep left but it can be busy on the weekends.
Fav medium length is to just go exploring up around welsford and north as I have not spent much time up there.
Fave long ride is the Coromandel loop.

Truth be told any ride I come back from alive is a favourite.
Has to be the best thing about having a job.... I have to saddle up at least twice a day..... sometimes i even get to go home via Bethels or Albany, Kaukapakapa.

Some of my rides close to Auckland are similar to yours - but with a lot more variation - I often extend SH16 by cutting across to Warkworth through Woodcocks,at the bottom of the Dome I cut back across to 16,up to Welsford, take the road at the bottom of the Dome again, criss cross, lots a fun.Maybe go through Riverhead and then up through Wainui to Puhoi. My favorite ride is to go SH16 then across to Warkworth, from Pakari through Tomomatra to Mangawai and up to Waipu, then back again.
SH22? - lots of roads to the west, some more to the east,I spend a lot of time in there.Kaiawa?...been doing that one for nearly 35 yrs - I often take a run up to the dams - Cosseys Creeks a good one if you want seal.
Coro loop? yeah I like that one,do the same as SH16,criss cross - Tapu/Coroglen then rd 309 - there's a whole world out there guys...it's a shame you're missing most of it. :moon:

South Island roads are the best in the country ( that should start some discussion ) How about the Takaka Hill, Havelock to Nelson, SH61 from Motueka, Reefton to Springs Junction, Buller Gorge - all time favourite and the latest great piece of road which will probably be sealed by the end of this year is the Catlins - Invercargill to Balclutha round the coast. Hitcher I hope you did CHCh to Akaroa via the Port Hills & Gebbies Pass - we have just returned from a trip down South and what a great road  :scooter: Had to stop at the Hilltop Tav :apint:
