Date: 19 March 2006
***Meet: Cobham Drive Caltex Garage
***After-meet: Momentum's house in Glenview***
*****I will be at the Caltex at 8:30 to drink coffee, so be there just before 9:00am, so we can leave at 9:10am*****

Ok, I had a chat to QUASiEVIL about this the other day... and he was planning on doing this thread, but he's taking too long :nya:

Most people probably know about the Cambridge to Hamilton Child Cancer Toy Run, which is said to be "the biggest turn out of public support that you will ever see on a bike run." I know there's a lot of Hamilton KB's, and this would be a great event to 'take over' so to speak. Instead of individual KB's going to the event, we should all go as a group (get some good publicity ;) )

The rider briefing starts at 10:30am, but have been suggested to get there @ 9:30am, so get to the Caltex garage on Cobham Drive, Hillcrest just before 9:00am, as we will be leaving at 9:10am.

Thanks, Rob

Will try. Is pretty tricky finding anyone you dont arrive with. There are just sooo many bikes and people :)

hence why going in a group is a good idea...
BlackBird: PM me your mobile number and I'll phone/text you wherever we decide to 'park up' in Cambridge on the day...or something like that?

Well, today I've learnt quite a bit on these forums (the forum itself and the information posted). I learnt how to do the poll thread, and a calender thread. I just made the calender 'attending event', so u can tick that one as well if you want...

Anyway, so there's 3 of us so far: Quasievil, Warr, and me... hoping to get more of a group together... Blackbird and one of his mates will try meet up with us in Cambridge, and I'm hoping the Auckland KB's will also join up at Cambridge.

Anyway, enough rambling for now... *wonders off to watch something*

More importantly, where are we going AFTERWARDS?!?!?!?!

The Eastside pub does very good meals and has a fairly decent garden bar area as well as big screens with plenty of sport on them.

Thanks... that's a good point... no, I hadn't forgotten that bit. Well, if no one has a problem with Eastside pub, we can hit that after the run.

Mine isn't 'exactly' a sports bike, but yeah, the more the merrier

hang on... i read something about tour riding... k, this is funny: What you do is take the lowest persons IQ in the group, divide that by the number of people in the group, and that's gonna give you the kind of idea of what mischief/trouble you might cause or get into :) isn't it great to travel in groups :D

Appreciate that ...as long as your lawn is big enough and you've got enough bike parking area to accommodate the 30+ people that Mental-Trousers mentioned, I don't see a problem... I'll ride past your house tomorrow and have a look see...

At this stage it is a two-horse race between Momentum's place and the Eastside Tavern... but as everyone knows, one single person can't decide where all should go, so please, everyone, post your opinions so we know what's going on.

*Edit: I don't have a problem with a home meet, but I gather most KB's would prefer a pub?

*Update: I think heading to Eastside Tavern will be the best idea. Thanks for the offer Momentum, maybe if the Hamilton KB's decide to have a get-together your place may have more interest in it, but for the Toy Run, heading to the Eastside Tavern is the best option (and if we end up trashing it, we won't feel too guilty :D )

I probably won't be on the toy run itself as my bike absolutely hates moving slowly or idling for long periods (no radiator fans). 2 minutes idling and it hits almost 100 degrees. So I'll probably catch everyone at the Eastside unless I jump on the back of somebodies bike.

OK, the votes are in... (well, not really) The meet-up will be at the Caltex garage on Cobham Drive (the one that Carver used for the whitehall run on Sunday just gone). The after-meet, I'm gonna move the official after-meet to Momentum's place: was there on Sunday, and that place is huge. Plenty of room for parking etc. If anyone still wants to go to the Eastside Tavern, go ahead, but Momentum's place will do well, especially for those with kids as pillions (Quasievil and Qman).

Momentum can give directions to his place as I don't want to broadcast his address to the entire world... oh... wait, it's in a post on page 2 :shifty:

Well... cya there everyone

Hey Rob, I've only been to 1 previous Toyrun. But there are 100's of bikes lining up on 3+streets in Cambridge. Nearer the front is in my opinion better. There are plenty of bikes to look at and people to catch-up with while you wait, I'd suggest getting to Cambridge at 9.30 not leaving Hamilton ... My 2 cents worth :)

Remember also that there are older cancer kids (12-16 year olds) think about them too. Also new toys are better unless the toys have been washed. Older toys may contain germs and these kids have no resistance cause of the radio or chemo treatment.

Just a couple of thoughts.

Took a bit of looking, but finally found this on "What's On Hamilton" website & confirms that it ends in Garden Place as it has for the last 2 years.

http://www.whatsonhamilton.co.nz/event.asp?refID=12854&Day=19&Month=2&Year=2006

Police direction & traffic stopping was fantastic last year, so you shouldn't find yourself sat on your bike while it overheats until you're actually on Victoria Street. :)

Any word on meeting/leaving Caltex earlier that previously mentioned? It sure is great to check out the bikes & catch up with bodies before the run & I'm staying just around the corner in Newstead on Saturday night.

OK, I will be at the Cobham Drive Caltex as close to 8:30am as I can (so i have time to drink some coffee)... and with Warr's advice, I think we'll go ahead with that idea, and try get to Cambridge by 9:30am.

Warr: does that mean we need to leave Caltex @ 9:10/9:15? Just came through Cambridge about an hour ago from Turangi (nice 525km extra on my bike :D ...scenic route aka I couldn't read the map properly) ...um, yeah, as i was saying, can't remember how long it takes to get to Cambridge from Hamilton, but I gather everyone knows how long it takes... DAMN THIS WAS A GOOD DAY!!!

My three favorite things on the run was the start-up, with all the bikes purring and doing whatever else they do... 2: Going through red traffic lights while cops are watching you (even though it was legal, it was still damn cool), and 3: No f**king boy-racers going up and down Victoria street, since it was pretty much blocked off for stupid cages :)

Thanks Momentum for the great Bar-B-Q at your place, and all that made it to the Toy Run. As my first time on a Toy Run, I had a really great time, and encourage anyone that hasn't been on one before to consider it next year :D

Rode back with a yellow sprot bike rego a5hly for most of the trip to Auckland. If you are a KBer take a bow.:yeah: Your riding through traffic and on the open road was very controlled. No cagers will be able to whinge about bikers doing stupid things.

Anything that helps us earn brownie points deserves a mention.:spudwave:

Ride could have been longer though. Was a much smoother ride than the Westpac ride in auckland, keeping everyone in one lane really did the trick. (Was it my imagination or was it really only sprots bikes riding in the right hand lane?)

Thinking about joining Ulysses so that next year we can convince them that the ride could be a bit longer..maybe via Te Awamutu?

Afterwards went to Raglan for lunch, lot of bikes there and another great ride both ways, apart from the little mob of HDs which passed us on a straight, only to brake hard in the middle of a corner...WTF?????? Nothing in the way, no reason to brake that I could see.

Big ups to Zero index for putting this together, and who could forget Ulysses, Word... Also, cheers to Momentum and his family for putting up their place for us, That was brilliant! Great to meet some people from the locality.

My Wife loved it, said it was really good to meet you guys,

Sorry Slim, after seeing you with the bunny ears, missed out on saying hello!

Last but not least, big ups to everyone who took photos of me!! Yaya!!

Anyone else the the Kawasaki fall over almost on top of the lil girl?? Kiddie was climbing on the bike (on the downhill side of the slope) and the bike fell over almost on top of her. She was ok, but some nasty scrapes on the plastics, bent lever, smashed indicator, scratched frame, scratched handle bar weight.....and one owner who from what I could see was too furious to speak! To her credit the kid's mother hung around, I know one little girl who won't be getting any pocket money for a long, long time!
Moral of this story?? I really don't know! You can't watch your bike every second of the day, and you can't stop the public from perving at our bikes.
Could have been worse though..imagine if the bikes had been closer together, would have been like that insurance ad on telly where the bikes go down like dominoes!

I can give a good moral for the story.... one word ELECTRIC-F**KING-FENCE!
(yes it is one word, it's got '-' joining it...)

Terminal Addict: The pillion with the camera's rider was Jesta, who deserves BIG UPs for coming all the way from Cambridge to be part of our little trip.

I really need a bigger bike, running out of steam at 110km/h is just NOT ON!!!

Was a big turn out, the kids on the side of the road look like they enjoyed the spectical don,t know about some of the cagers stuck at the intersections some of them looked a bit pissed at use all. still its about the kids and thats what matters.

All the drivers I saw looked pretty relaxed. Any idea how long it took for all the bikes to go past?

Highlight of the day would have to be seeing the old lady standing on the side of the road smiling and waving and crying. Like she was that moved by what we were doing there.

Yes the toy run was a good one. Good to meet up with a few of the KB riders.
There was a lot of spectators watching and waving which actually suprised me a bit. Nothing like a great big convoy of bikes to stir things up. Missed out on a badge as they were all sold out when we got to garden place. Does anyone know how many bikes there were?

No, we were on the far side of the park and there were still alot of bikes behind us so we must have been about mid pack on the route to Hamilton.

haha, i can't get an open-road speeding ticket, due to the fact my bike can 'just' make it to 110km/h.

Oooh, update on my bike...
- Cleaned my bike after the run, cleaned my chain/oiled it, cleaned the sparkplug, topped up the oil, and it's going much better (after the sparkplug got cleaned)

On my way back from church tonight (met Carver's younger brother, who knew me as 'one of the guys that crashed last sunday'), anyway, was on my way back, came up to a traffic light on avalon drive that just changed to green, and hadn't come to a complete stop, tried to 'launch it', to get ahead of the silly 'people mover' van beside me, to my surprise, the front wheel of my bike jumps up about a foot off the ground :D for less than a second though, but still, it got off the ground, so i was pretty much "HELL YEAH!!!"

CBX 1000's like they should have made them

The CBX With the half fairing used to belong to an elderly car sprayer from Leamington just outside Cambridge. He had a shed full of fantastic stuff incluting an original, unrestored Model T which his father used when he was young. Don't know what happened to the chap - heard that he became quite ill from spray paint fumes .

thanks :)

oh, also, since i cleaned the spark plug, i can jam the throttle wide open till i hit about 112km/h and only then does it splutter... (i used to get to 100km/h, and had to have the throttle not 'fully' opened other wise it would splutter)

Yes, it's official, I am now fast enough to get an open road speeding ticket (although the possibility is still very low)

Wasnt a little dark skinned downs syndrome kid was it? If so she tried to steal my sunnies then bashed me when I held onto them, then nearly got belted when she ran off with some other dudes helmet and wouldnt give it back without a fight.

Cartman woulda said: "You get your bitch-ass back in the kitchen and make me some pie...

The voices in my head woulda said: "Hey kid... help yourself to some GET THE F**K AWAY FROM MY BIKE"

I can be seen on the R.H.S of that shot. The Red (Of course) Ducati just above the older CBR1000. Sis is in the grey top with a jacket on one shoulder, with Ma beside her in a blue top and a jacket on the shoulder, and I'm in the black just to the right of Sis.

It was Ma's first toy run and 2nd time on a bike after 12 years of me trying to get her on one. Result: Ear to ear grin and then some.

LimBimNOGOTimWim joined me for a the ride back to Welly yesterday. The RVF seemed to be moving along quite happily.

The bike red bastard was the V8 bike, don't know much about this bike but would sure appreciate it if someone could enlighten us about it a wee bit more. Also the last two pics are my bike and SlashWylde's (Red Kawasaki) then some bugger went and parked his thorn between two roses
