shit.. good luck getting those back..
I'll keep my eyes open, but since they aren't anything *special* or unique, and reading VIN numbers is pretty tricky, they'll be hard to pick out

How did they manage to VIN them without taking them out of the container? I thought to get a VIN number the bike had to be inspected (like a super WoF) ?
(Just interested, nothing sinister imputed)

is the reward for finding one of these bikes keeping them?

Good question but I don't know the answer. If I had $250,000 worth of bikes arriving, I would be opening the container door as soon as they arrived to make sure they were all there. Maybe they Vinned them overseas?? There must be a vehicle importer on here who can answer that...

Delivered to Lower Hutt on 16th Feb a Thursday...
Not opened up til 21st Feb a Tuesday...

Surely the first thing the people at Lower Hutt would do is to open up the container upon arrival and check and sign off that all bikes are there, upon delivery.... and not wait 5 days to do this.

Is the place in Lower Hutt a bike shop.. if so who knew this shipment was coming in.... and on that particular day....?

To me it seems like a bit of a inside job.... or someone who knows someone within a certain group.

Did the vin numbers come on a sheet of paper with the container from Japan or where ever the container came from?

In fact were the missing bikes ever put in the container in the first place?

They will be hard to find now in NZ as they are most likely all stripped down for parts etc... but good luck in finding them.

Maybe check out those at the wharf as well on the 15th when the container arrived at port. There is always a list of what is in a container...

Those are factory VINs,if a vehicle has a 17 digit VIN from new,it doesn't need a NZ VIN asigned and attached seperatly.Only Japanese Domestic vehicles don't have factory VIN.

2 points:

1) ... the 2 x 250cc bikes seem so out of place amongst the other bikes. Stolen to order perhaps?

2) ... regarding the bikes that were left in the container ... I'd really love to know what sort of bikes the dirty mongrels rejected as not good enough to steal?

Whoops, my bad... but still, it does kinda look like a retractable training wheel due to it being off the footrest bit of frame. Yes, I admit I am new to bikes, and that is the first time I have seen a belt drive engine... I have learned something new, thanks :)

Can't tell as it didn't come with any keys. I've given it a shake and it's making a swishing sound so I'm guessing it's about half full, or half empty, whichever way you look at life.

BTW the engine isnt belt drive, the belt drive drives the rear wheel.

retractable training wheels. that is hilarious.

(Im only mildly taking the piss, not calling you ignorant or anything... and I really did laugh like a madman....) green rep for you...

But yeah, always like learning new things.

PS. If anyone on the Cambridge to Hamilton Toy Run or BabyB's BBQ has a bike that has belt drive, can they please show me and tell me how it works (although i'll probably try www.howstuffworks.com it)
