View Full Version : I passed my full licence!!!

I just got back from taking and passing my motorcycle full licence test. I was pretty nervous but I think I passed without problem - the only negative comment the tester made afterwards was that in describing the hazards I noticed while negotiating an intersection, I forgot to mention the car behind me, i.e., him. I thought about making a smart comment along the lines of "I assumed you weren't causing me a hazard" but thought better of it - truth be told I probably don't take enough notice of the cars behind me at intersections. Hey - a bonus - I learnt something.

Get this - the test ride involved a short blat on the open road. When I stopped after that he came up to me very promptly and asked: "As a restricted rider, what is your speed limit on the open road?" Is this a trick question, I asked myself... "100km/h" I replied, without total conviction, as his question had put some doubt in my mind where before there was none. "Aren't you restricted to 70?" he asked. "On a learners licence, yes, but not on a restricted" I replied. "Are you sure?" "Yep" (confidence growing again). Maybe he was trying to trick me, but I don't think so - I honestly don't think he knew. Given that exceeding the speed limit by 30km/h would result in an instant fail, I guess that's where he was going... Amazing.

Now, see if you can solve this simple equation:

Cash in bank + Full licence = _ _ _ _ _ _ _

And if anyone wants to buy a very tidy FXR150, mine's going to be up for sale very soon...

Well done. Now go out and get on something you can really have some fun on.

Regarding the car following you in the test......I had exactly the same thing. The tester told me I did not mention the car behind me at an intersection. I told him that he was the car behind me (just in case he did not know :zzzz: ). He replied that there was a car behind him to which i said that due to the fact that he was following me for the entire test and I had him in my rear view the entire time it was unrealistic (and dangerous) to expect me to be trying to look through my rear view mirrors past him to see if there was a car following him. He agreed amazingly enough and sent me on my way.....with a full license

I can say for sure that you wont see me on Sunday with my old bike... I think it might be a bit optimistic to think I'll buy one on Saturday - if I do then I'll probably go on Sunday; if I don't then I'll be working (sadly).

I highly recommend a K5 thou... excellent step up from the fixxer. Alternatively I could recommend a 2002 Kwaka 636 that's never been thrashed, dropped or wanted by the fuzz...

Congrats on passing.

I hate it how some of these testers think that they're God's gift to driving/riding and get smart with you...but you just have to grin and bear it, 'cos they can make up any shit they want really. Had a real plonker once...anyway, you passed...good stuff :niceone:

SV650, fine choice.

I really know stuff all about bikes, so I can't comment on suspension, etc, but for me the SV650S was a sweet ride. So much power, and I'm sure I was only using a fraction of it. I took it up the gorge into the northerly and had no problems keeping up with the cages - when I said go faster, it just did, even without changing gears. I got the feeling it would just go any speed I wanted, and it was going to take a lot more than the wind to slow it down. I think the buffeting I was getting from the wind, while still there, was less than I imagine I would have got on the FXR, so perhaps the wind protection from the fairing is better (it couldn't be worse). And, being heavier and more powerful, the bike itself didn't get blown around so much. Altogether it just felt much safer. I rode it for about 90 min and didn't want to give it back. I took it on the motorway, on some twisty roads and in the city traffic, and it was just awesome at everything. Can you tell I loved it? I paid a deposit and I'm getting one in a few days!

Yeah, I rode a SV650S and thought it was awesome. If I wasnt so keen on an inline4 then it would have been at the top of my list for sure.
