View Full Version : Warning: Cops are watching KB.
Velox

Yep, the cop that pulled over one of our TRTNRs asked, "you must be on the Kiwi Biker ride?" (bet you're regretting that now buddy!) So they're watching the site and are actually keeping track of who's hooning where (well, in this case anyway) unless one of our resident cops are dobbing us in.
So not posting names, places, ride destinations or pics with numberplates is prob a very good idea! Which is a worry cause there's lots of labelled pics of us with our bikes (incl number plates)! Hmmm - actually, that doesn't necessarily mean we were riding them at the time that X happened though.
Anyway, just a word or warning that the disturbing suspicions are true. I'm not trying to tell people to simmer down our riding - just encouraging people to be more 'resourceful'!

Some of us have known this for a while now...
I doubt it's any of the resident cops that are spying, as it where, but this is an open forum and so anyone can read anything that is posted.
Most of the stuff that's said on here they can't go on because it's classed as hear'say or something, and so can't be used in evidence.
But if you post up that you did a runner and didn't get caught or some other such shit, then don't be surprised if the rossers cross reference your bike to anyone they've had problems with recently.

noticed the difference with a forum i'm on over here in west aust........ they seem to assume that public posts are being watched and for many rides details seem to be passed around only by pm

I'm sorry, but i had to laugh at ya post Velox.
IMHO; i don't care if the police monitor KB (there could be advantages to that I'm sure) I'm sure they usually only pull ya over if ya done something bloody stupid anyway...........my point is though i would be more worried about the underhanded (illegal intentions) ppl watching the site getting bike, Reg & Addy's.
after all it is the Internet:doobey:

A lot of what has been organised on KB lately could draw nada but praise from the police, surely.
Taking stunting and drags off the streets, mentoring new riders, track days, tuition, etc etc.
Socialy responsible we are - and wtf there's three? regular mr plod posters anyway?!?

I'm with Big Dave here and quite happy they read these forums as it may open their narrow minds (Bykey Cop & Scumdog don't mean you) to what the world of motorcycling is all about. I guess this site is a fairly broad crossection of us all and if they (rozzers and those that manage them) were genuinely interested in making the road a safer place for motorcyclists they would use this site as a measure of the motorcycle communitys needs above finding out where we are all going to ride on a sunday so that they can gather revenue.

True - expect for the times they get drunks off the road, and enforce all those rule that suit you... instead of those you choose to break. Be sure to list them succinctly so they know which is which.

IF the cops really wanted to - they'd nail 95%+ of our sorry arses every time we organised a ride. They have the resources etc to do if - if that's what they chose to do (at the expense of the taxpayer and other crime police activities of course...)
It's paranoia. No biggy - give and take... all that stuff.

its common sense for the cops to be aware of whats going on here.
i'm reasonably new to the forum, but i know that if it was a "boyracer" forum and there were a bunch of dicks planning where to go for the illegal drag racing, i would want the cops to read it, go out there and bust them.
and I would like to think that if your boasting about doing stupid speeds, stupid stunts or just being a cock in general on your bike, you'd get what is coming to you as well. cops being on this forum isn't some under handed move. its just common sense? if i was a cop, i would do the same.
and for all the shit they "cop" on here, its actually pretty good they're not harder on us than they actually are.

Isnt this what we do on this forum? Only difference is that we arent yelling "Hey Gerald Thomas! That was an awesome lanesplit/topspeed run/400m wheelie you did down SH22 the other day...dont you live at 1313 Mockingbird Lane?"

So why do they say they don't have the resources to harass boi racers?
I'm saying if they chose to - they have enough resources to nail each and every one of us - but it would be at the expense of other activities.
We're seeing that balance being struck now - balance between time busting speedsters vs catching burglars.
If they stopped catching burglars, they'd be able to catch more of the speedsters.
Gees - lets face it - put the Eagle in the air over one of the rides, find the gaggle of speedsters, determine an average speed between two known points, deploy roadblocks on the 3 or 4 possible exist roads and Bob's your rather upset uncle.
They don't do it because it's not top priority- ergo not that big of a problem, hence my comment about not getting too paranoid...

They should look at the amount of deaths on the road as their "performance measure". At the end of the year the head cop could then say "well, what we did this year didn't f*cking work, let's try something else" such as edjumacating drivers, enhancing drivers skills, getting piece of junk vehicles off the roads, throwing the sorry-arsed repeat drunk drivers in jail, etc...

Too true to act in a proactive fashion is allways better. All of us here that don't think we need anymore education won't pay for it so the revenue will drop so its esier and more guarantee of fuding to take the reactive stance of punishing people.

bit of paranoia is good though. keeps you on your A game.
I've been standing on street corners trying to tell others this for years. I have a reliable source (Gilbert from our Chess Club cleans the Police toilets) that tells me the Police have a top secret squad of highly trained commandos that were genetically bred to hunt down law breaking bikers.
Yes its true they have a division dedicated to scouring Internet forums for illegal biker activity but thats not all.... they are also working with the USAF and using UFO technology from Roswell have finally perfected a device to read our minds. So now you only have to think about wheelies and they will kick your door down!
Thankfully theres a well known defence for this type of intrusion that is tried and proven. I've been watching stunting videos for the last week and I can swear by it so I suggest you get yours on straight away before its too late!

Real not Regular. Not to be confused with The Cruisy Wednesday Night Ride.
It's all a bit over-rated really. Finally the pigs decided to hang around and police an area of road that we do frequent on a regular basis. Fact is, now that they've turned it from a twisty where big speeds were impossible into a drag strip, anyone with half a brain will know that it now becomes just another area of the fuzz to hang out. So if you give it a wind up before you hit the hill, then you're risking the fuzz. Just like giving it the windup on a motorway. It's home turf for fuzz.
This is a public internet forum. It's full of people who's online personas (if they even own up to having one, aye pig?) may or may not bear any resemblence to their real persona. Likewise activities claimed or disclaimed on this site must be treated with the same grain of salt that people's comments are.
You fellas really think I spend all day doing runners? Don't think so. Better things to do. I now limit it to strictly one per month... on average.
But whether you like the 5-0 or not, or whether you choose to respect them or not, you still have to remember that most of them are literate, some of them can drive/ride, and while they might be on the losing side of the ledger usually, one day the odds say they'll get one back.

Fair enough that they are watching this forum given regularly at the same time every thursday a large group of motorbikes is proceeding down the motorway and over the rimutakas it has too attract the attention of the "do gooders" out there, and the police, We are also partly to blame, if you read half the shit ranting on this forum about running from cops, wheelies, excessive speeding, racing etc.... its only natural to observe this in the interests of public safety.
In regards to the policing though the cop in question failed to lock a speed of me onto his radar, but was matched against his speedo, considering he was not following us at the time that seems impossible to me, and even though my speedo isnt going the two speeds he quoted, 136kmh and errr..... over the 140km license losing speed didnt seem realistic to me. add to that I was in a group of motorbikes, and the fact he didnt catch up to us until about 2km/h later he was obviously stationary at the time, in which case his speedo would have been reading 0 me thinks........
Anyways I will fight thisa one till the bitter end, but was a good wake up call that we should be careful what we post on here,
By the way does anyone know how to change your log in name!!!!

its common sense for the cops to be aware of whats going on here.
i'm reasonably new to the forum, but i know that if it was a "boyracer" forum and there were a bunch of dicks planning where to go for the illegal drag racing, i would want the cops to read it, go out there and bust them.
and I would like to think that if your boasting about doing stupid speeds, stupid stunts or just being a cock in general on your bike, you'd get what is coming to you as well. cops being on this forum isn't some under handed move. its just common sense? if i was a cop, i would do the same.
and for all the shit they "cop" on here, its actually pretty good they're not harder on us than they actually are.
No, it's true 'we're' watching KB, - I'm always on it, I follow KBers a lot on rides (Dangerous, ZZR, Virago et etc) and I hang around rallies that KBers attend, watching them, noting who rides what, taking picture (sometimes even including the no. plate in the pic) and generally noting what KBers get up to.;)

There's an easy answer. Take back handers and it's win-win for everybody. No demerit points for us and you'll be able to buy a bike. It's not as thought the traditional method is working and it's no more criminal than what this government does with our money.

Put me down for a copy please.
What a crazy thread. I think we're over estimated our importance in the big scheme. I've heard there was a sweep up of boy racers at the LH carpark Thursday night. My guess is we were just a small unexpected side dish that fell in their lap.
As for the HP waiting at Kaitoke. What's new about that, they've been turning up there for years. HP patrol highways! It's their job, get used to it. Amazing thing is how often they leave us alone. Throwing shit at them on here is not going to help is it. That's clever, lets abuse every cop and then we can all have something to moan about because we've invited them to target us.
I do enough stupid stuff myself to attract their attention without having the local plod full of anti-bikers.
Finn's ideal of back handers is the best thing I've heard in ages. That would work for all of us. Save paper work and time. can we start a petition on this for the Police Act review. Make it part of their 'discretion'

I'm not trying to tell people to simmer down our riding - just encouraging people to be more 'resourceful'!Velox you must be smokin P or summut cos thats a massive amount of paranoia your carring around wiv yerself

Thursday nights is becoming the most entertaining night of the week.
Throw away your TV's folks, Police scanners are the new craze here in Wellington.
240kph motorway chases (in dusk). Motorway undertakings. Stand up wheelies. Irate cage drivers getting carved up (By 15-20 bikes at once). Mufti cars everywhere. Resulting in........
Three police cars (and one slow arse but courteous Police van) in a highway pursuit driving towards four police cars roadblocking the Hutt motorway, only to come away empty handed (for about the tenth time!)
A good 10-12 police cars involved in TRTNR antics!

$1030.00 being my ticket (yet to arrive in the mail) surely justified the 7 police vehicles whilst probably 100+ boyracers where sitting in a carpark with no police vehicles present (I went for a looksee) In which quite a few of the vehicles I would consider to be very dangerously modified were doing burnouts etc............. but hey, at least the friendly policeman was achieving his quota in the interests of "roadsafety" because hey....... a motorbike at 30 something km's over the limit is going to cause carnage on the roads and to the general public in comparison to a group of "highly" modified rice racers blitzing around the streets of lower hutt with no springs in there cars!!!
Sorry cant speak for the 240km/h police chases......I was too busy trundling back down the hill at 99km/h with the hyobag in the interests of not testing my luck twice in one night, but hey it;s not exactly a regular occurence *cough, cough* and im sure if there was a little more respective gained from the police then certain indivuals might provide that respect back.

What? We give them half a chance, and they take our money?
Close - I think it's more you don't give them ANY chance and they take your money.
Ever been pulled over and given a warning?
THAT my friend, is being given a chance. That's an example of a cop who is probably perfectly within their rights to give you a ticket or other punishment, but they didn't... WHY.
They gave YOU a 2nd chance.
But DON'T give that cop a chance... be defensive, tell them what you think of being pulled over, use some select descriptive terms... think you'll still get that chance?
We're all in this together. For the record - I'm not a cop, I don't enjoy getting tickets... but I expect a cop to do their job no matter who the wrong doer is - even me.
Accepting the consequences of your actions is part of growing up.
As for giving cops a 2nd chance, consider the fact we're all actually after the same thing. Safe and efficient transport. They add to the picture by enforcing the rules of the land. We add to the picture by obeying they rules of that land, and I would suggest going an extra step and HELPING the cops.
Seen an idiot on the roads? *555 is your friend. If the cops are available there's a good chance they'll help.
If they're not available, blame those in power for not funding them enough - we're short on cop numbers. Blame LTNZ for contracting not enough, or too many traffic enforcement hours... blame those that actually have the ability to change something - but don't.

Seriously though - I got pulled a week or two ago, and one of my two wheeled colleagues went past on the NW... swearing and yelling in the general direction of the cop. Cop asked me "What's his problem?" I laughed and told him I didn't know.
Cop said "I think I might find out..."

the cops aren't watching the shite on here. reading it for a laugh maybe! i was in welly a couple of weekends ago, and with the constant stream of bikes to and from the rimutakas it's pretty obvious they're not going sightseeing!
then, trying to behave like grown men when you're really just boys (ie doing a runner with no bike licence, snapped for $630 speeding - that's 46-50k over the limit and a roadside suspension) then coming on here claiming the cops are hunting you and you're such a poor victim for being picked on blah blah blah is really just pathetic.
one day soon we'll be reading about how some poor wellington biker died in a police chase, and it's all the police's fault......well it won't be, and someone will have used up all their lives, and some of us who have seen it all before will say 'told you so'.

Beer and Police then,
The District Commander and I had just been for a nice ride. He was on his GSX1400 we were on the Trophy.
The late afternoon sun was rippling off his courtyard swimming pool and as we stood around the BBQ he handed me a huge slab of crayfish that he had pulled out of the ocean that afternoon.
I sat back in the deck chair and was about to scoff it as his Mrs handed me a Steinie.
All I could say was 'Mighty fine town you're running here Sherrif.'
I like policemen. I don't like it when they give me tickets or have to enforce laws that are just taxes, but I do like it that they deal with all the p'ed up fuckwits, theives, gangsters and dregs of society - so that I mainly don't have to.
I've got some good mates that are cops and I'm not scared to admit it. You wanna trash em personally you can kiss my arse too. The system they are paid to employ is open slather, however.

hehe, must admit I have thoroughly enjoyed reading all that and I just can't resist adding my two cents!
I like doing dodgy things on my bike every now and then, I can't help it, honest! I get grumpy and moan my arse off every now and then when I get caught. Such is life though, and I know full well that I most likely deserve what I get when on the odd occasion they do catch up with me. It doesn't leave me with warm fuzzies about the police, but hey, they are just doing their job.
In saying that though! Some cops are just plain ol' dickheads who have spent so much time dealing with shitheads that they think everyone is a bad guy as well. They do annoy me, but again, I believe it's just a symptom of doing a job not to many people would want to do.
Conclusion.......some cops are tossers, but then so are some postmen, some lawyers, and some waiters.................you get the point.
As for big brother, if you're worried about don't post. Simple as that I reckon.

Had a slow ride up the hill today. I have noticed the cops are paying alot more attention to the motorcyclists now.
Uncle B and I came down the hill on saturday and couldn't believe the whiplash one officer nearly gave himself as he spun around to view our oncoming bikes. The officer was buisy ticketing some old fulla on an old BMW.
Fatjim also noticed a Green ZXR which was being followed by a HP car for quite some distance before getting pulled over, even though the rider was riding two up and very cautiously.
The cops are obviously real keen on motorcyclists at the moment. I dare not push the speed limits because I have no interest in doing a runner and damned if I wanna pay a fine for peanuts either. Also I know the Hutt Valley cops are no longer giving the local motorcyclists any leeway at all now.
I guess it will be pretty lame riding for us all for quite a while.
In the past I always celebrate the end of a good takas run with a wee wheelie.
Didn't do so on Saturday, Sunday or today. Don't like my chances of getting away with biscuits at the moment! and dunno who's watching from where now either!
So all you Welly KB'ers, keep smart and be very road aware of HP and mufti's.
It's just not worth speeding over the limit at all in the hutt.
My only question is, how long will the cops be taunting us for now?
Also, Uncle B raised a goodpoint. We're gonna do TRTNR and we're gonna do it completely legally (as we always do!). Just to do our bit towards showing the cops that there are some good responsible motorcyclists out there. Sorry TCWNR, Can't make it once again. It would be great to see a good turnout of fellow riders!

If you are going to make comments on here why not actually take the time to read the comments first, yes I was speeding whilst riding with a group of motorbikes, no, it was not unsafe. it was more a comment as to the way things seemed to be heading on this thread - i has been said quite clearly on this thread that the 240k runners, wheelies, high speed lane splitting and general public place misbehaving is going to have to stop for a while.
and of course this is open forum - if you post idiot stuff, you'll either get slammed by winja et al, or picked up by the 5-0........
and for the record, i think pushing 145-150k, while not inherently unsafe on it's own, is starting to get close to the boundaries of getting very messy should anything go wrong.
and in one breath you say you're going to defend it to the end, then you're posting (on open forum remember - duh) that 'yes i was speeding whilst riding with a group of motorbikes' . i don't think you were charged with riding in an unsafe manner, just speeding, so by your own admission.......

But (just to keep a bit of perspective) in the eyes of the law anyone going over 110 is a 'hooligan' and should be punished for it! Yeah sure we push the boundary's every now and then but to actively instigate a police pursuit to me is being a hooligan.
We all take a risk when we ride a motorcycle and try to highlight our presence to other motorists that we are there but in a positive way....when hooliganism is flaunted in public it highlights us as an unlawful dangerous sector that, in the eyes of the law, needs to be controlled more strongly.
I love motorcycling but don't want to be butt fucked by the cops everytime I pull out of my driveway cause I'm classed as a hooligan.

so has any person actually been really ticket pinged by a copper from article writing..(showing my ignorance of the entire thread huh:blah: )There was a story around a while ago about a guy overseas who did a runner, then boasted about it on an online forum. US or Britain I think. By the sounds of it he obviously admitted it online and put in enough details. By pure luck the cop who he did the runner from happened to be surfing the net a month or so later and came across his story. It's pretty easy to trace someone's real identity from the net when you've got the resources the police do, so they tracked this guy down and he got busted.
Based on what's being said in this thread, I'm wondering when Spank will get the word from the boys in blue to cough up some of his server records...

So if a hooligan is somebody that rides over 110kph on the motorway, what do you call somebody that does a runner when on a newbie ride (240kph+)
Especially knowing that there is a post on the front page for these advertised rides which expresses that if you cannot stick to the groups pace, don't attend.
There are times and places for picking your moments for hooning. We also have a track and various club days available to us for when we need to get excessive. I can't understand why you would need to do so many runners.
I zip around the place plenty enough and in the last four years have been pulled up once. What do you have to be doing to result in multiple runners?
What is one trying to prove by this? Why does one have to feel they have anything to prove in the first place?
Perhaps it's time we find ourselves a resident shrink!

So if a hooligan is somebody that rides over 110kph on the motorway, what do you call somebody that does a runner when on a newbie ride (240kph+)

Argh - all I was trying to say is that in the eyes of the law it's not a case of black and white, dodgey and legal, when it comes to the levels of hooning between "us" (said very vaguely) and the antics in this post. I'm not defending it at all!!!

I'm sure you guys (and gals) have heard this one before, but I'll post it anyway.
A guy is speeding along the higway and gets pulled up by a cop. The cop walks over with a swagger, leans on the window of the car, looks at the guy and says "I've been waiting all day for you."
To which the guy replies - "I got here as fast as I could"
Keep smiling, and I'm sure most coppers have more common sense than to think that people are silly enough to post their intended illegal actions on the internet.
Keep smilling
