A few of us are gonna do the loop sat morn :ride: (weather permitting of course)
We'll be stopping somewhere for lunch, and there's a couple of slower riders :scooter: so it won't be a race(but not too slow :devil2: ...) so anyone that wants to tag along is more than welcome.
We'll be leaving here (south auck)@ 9am,we can meet at the Autobahn @ 9.15-9.30ish then meet other KBers from further down at the Thames gas station pollen st at 10.30ish
Can ring/txt Draco on 0274272508 if yer interested :)
See map on pg 4 for route :niceone:

Sweet!! I'll be broke as to do a full ride after the track day anyway, man this GSXR drinks like a fish! We'll try to do SH 22 and that way, we'll be heading south anyway. You can carry on southwards after we reach the point of turn around for us.

Actually FF, you are in luck! We are still going to hoon around all day at the track on the 23rd April the Friday. Next day on the 24th the Saturday, We'll be doing the SH22. From my knowledge, I think Saturday is your day off now for riding isn't it?

P.S. Shit I am rude!! This post is about a ride for this saturday not about the 24th! I'll fill you guys in, closer to the date.

MR, if its the same John I'm thinking of, I dunno whether he's retarded or not- I just know he's awfully good at buggering off into the distance at any time!

as for my gsxr blowing up... not likely with the roads as slimey as they are right now. went for a thrash with zed down SH22 and it was so slippery I think i only had the throttle hard open twice. I was trying too but even when being gentle the back stepped out about 2 ft (so I'm told!) under accel.

Interesting point about the GSXR's being thirsty. Compared to Zed's new CBR on Sat, mine either has a damn small tank (but not likely at 18 litres) or is trying to playing drinking games with all the other bikes!

Hmmmm, funny that. I thought it was just mine cause it has some race mods in it. Tank size is definetly not small. I put 19+ dollars of 96 or 98 in it every time.

Last time when MikeL on the CB400 had used 6 dollars of fuel from the last petrol station, I had used up 17 dollars for the same distance. :thud:

I don't know if he put 91 or 96 but its a huge difference either way!

I,m keen and I beleive some other friends are keen as well (Weather Gods permitting). So have I got this right?
9am Saturday at the Autobahn
9.30 At Clevedon shops
10.30 at Thames. Is that the one at Kopu by the bridge or in Thames itself?

I was doing this run on Saturday by myself anyway as I'm off to Taupo so it will be fun to have company. I'll just have to get out of bed earlier dammit
Anyone know of cheap accomodation in Taupo Sat night?
Is anyone else going to watch the Supermotards race in Taupo on Sunday?

The guy that binned it just out of kopu was on a 996. Ran wide on a corner and the bike went down a bank and flipped i think. Bike was in pretty bad state, not sure how bad though.

Then there was another "incident" about 20kms south of whitianga, lets just say there is one less 2004 CBR1000RR on the road now.

A great day , apart from the 2 "incidents". The dubious distinction of being the first person in the country to write off(If its not written off, it'll be close) a CBR1000RR goes to John, who, we think hit gravel on the Coroglen bridge and went sliding off over a bank into a paddock! 300kms on it .Ouch! And the unfortunate 996 who got it all wrong at the Kopu side of the hill and ended up cartwheeling his bike over a bank.Seriously bent both ends and not insured! Double ouch! Both riders OK though, which is the main thing!
A good turnout at the Autobahn and we set of through Ramarama to Ararimu, out to Mangatawhiri, back to Miranda then much front tyre preserving by some, down to Thames.Met up with others, then changed direction of loop to go over Kopu first......first incident....1 dead Duck! Over to Whangamata turnoff for regroup....Richards pack was open....lost his gloves....back up to the top off the hill, he went and we didnt see him again til Coromandel! Some more wheelies by our resident hoons and off to Whitianga for lunch. Another stop at Coroglen after the 2nd oops, to make sure John? was OK and things sorted. It was a bit worrying at this point.....was it going to be a trip of attrition....the last bike upright gets home? But she was sweet...no more incidents except for a wayward chain coming off after Coromandel. A bit of sunstrike on the way back, but all in all - a good ride.
About 15-18 bikes started , with a few leaving at various points. We seemed to sort ourselves into speed groups and there were lots of stops for regrouping and smokes etc.
Well done Mr Death. http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_17_10.gif

Hey all,

Must say I had a mean time on the ride. First time i've gone on a ride with others like that and it was great to follow some good riders on the windy bits. Looking foward to doing it again sometime. As for wheelies/stoppies/crashies/breakdownies etc, I know I had no problem with anyone one the ride, their attitude or any pressure to keep up. Was just a good time. Sorry to quasievil for not hanging round at Thames for the trip back to Hamilhole but something came up with the g/f.

well i did the loop solo earlier that morning. couldn't see a thing (fog) from Hunua to Kopu which was slow going. stopped in Thames for much needed gas & power drink. could see nothing toward coro, but clear skies through the hills so set off to whanga then whitianga & on to coro for a coffee. what a beautiful day it was and the road was in pretty good nick also. stopped to admire Cajun's shiny new gsxr on the way back(nice bike btw) & seen the group (I assume was You guys heading into thames). I laughed to myself cos i was being 'sociable' & nodding out to the riders but there were so many bikes i thought "this is ridiculous, there's got to be a better way" lol, but cheers anyway guys. I was quite surprised at the number of nice bikes & the quality of riding gear everyone seemed to be wearing, good on You guys. And going through the built up area with cars etc. everyone was riding considerately & around the speed limit. Glad most enjoyed themselves and better luck next time with the carnage.

The dubious distinction of being the first person in the country to write off(If its not written off, it'll be close) a CBR1000RR goes to John, who, we think hit gravel on the Coroglen bridge and went sliding off over a bank into a paddock! 300kms on it .

Sheesh 300km, and he didn't even have the fun of running it in properly.

Going with another Diablo? I am not at all confidant with the Diablo I have on the rear. Oh well, I guess it slows me down a bit.

most definitely. I have a corsa on at the moment and its done nothing but impress me under wet accleration and stability at pukekohe. she's pretty flattened in the middle now after the highway blasting so its giving out little shimmies when crossing white lines- but thats to be expected.

I've got around 8,000 km's on it so far. Thats included a reasonably hard day at pukekohe where I played around with my tyre pressures to find a good setting (and in the process did a bit of damage) and a majority of commuting.

i'll probably get a second hand stock diablo to replace it just to easy the finances for now.

Oh from what I have heard he had fun running it in, stoppies and wheelies from the get go.

If you were on the roadside and looked away for a few seconds, you probably would have missed the 250km wheelie as he passed by!

He maybe as good as they come as far as road riders go. Shit happens (gravel?). Enough said... time to forget and move on.

Hi Quasi, Death & I are keen to join you (providing the controversy of our weekend excursion hasn't put you off). Let us know when, and we'll be there providing the babysitter is available.
Cheers, Draco.
