hello. sorry, need some more help because i still havent a clue about bikes.

what position does the petrol tap thing on my bike need to be in for normal use? someone told me there is a normal, reserve and off position?? what are these positions?

Normally....tab points down for ON, up for RESERVE, and horizontal for OFF

mine appears to either point forward, down or backwards. any ideas?

If it's a standard Suzuki vacuum set up you'll have on/reserve/prime positions. If my memory serves me right you should have the 'tab' of the fuel tap over the option that you want.

PS Don't switch to prime unless you've run out of fuel as it lets petrol run directly into the carbs.

Old Suzukis are , tab forward = prime, tab downward = on , tab back = reserve.

Ditto the request for info for my GSX 750.

Has been repainted and has no markings. Options are forward, down, backwards

FYI options are:

Not heard of it recently but wasn`t unknown for riders to put the lever in prime by mistake and bend the con-rods on the old Suzi 2-strokes.

You can run on prime
The only difference is the fuel tap is still open with the engine off.
On a two stroke with leaking float valves the crank case might fill with fuel,but a four stroke might fill the cylinder and bend stuff when turning over

FYI options are:
