clocked up my 500km mark today (in 8 days).

My bin sucked... approx 35km into the run, had a fairly decent line ready for the right-hand corner, then along the line (not really anything to worry about actually) was a driveway with gravel on it... so i decide "hmm, lets look at that and f**k up my line" start to lean for the corner and then realise "wait, i'm not gonna make this corner at the speed I'm doing *suddenly weeks of KB posts about braking in corners appears in my mind*,
...so what do i do? straighten up, hit the brakes (not locking up) and head straight for the grass, probably got down to 30km/h or something like that, and then hit a 'lifted section of grass (like a pavement, but grass and sand)' and over the side I go (high-sided), hit my right knee going over (slightly grazed from the tank), my face went straight for the ground, THANK GOD FOR FULL-FACE HELMETS, took a small knock to the jaw, but no-where near as painful as a 'naked' contact (not sore anymore). I obviously also got my left foot whacked by the bike as it went over, cause my foot is F**KING SORE!!!
Thanks to whoever it was that took care/lifted/checked my bike after the drop
main thing i need to do for my bike now is hammer the bracket for the headlight straight, cause it points nicely to the left to look for pedestrians.
Anyway, 5km after that, saw Road Rash parked on the side of the road, and Momentum standing kinda in the middle of the road, with his bike on its side next to a fence... glad the bike isn't too damaged Alex, hope it gets sorted by next weekend, so you don't have to ride than GN250

Glad to see you are able to tell us about it - and not from a hospital bed...

There's a lot of variety out there mate. From single lane, off camber, Lichen covered bits to some wide open state highway bits.

those roads look pretty rugged... for auckland maybe - it's typical waikato roads. - not too far from sh1 though - looks like whitehall rd between the school and waterworks rd.
plenty of gravel, lichen, cow shit to keep you honest.
there's a kb'er with a shiny 600 lives nearby that spot, and another muscles his bus around there with alarming regularity....

yeah, it was a good learning experience... racked up 500km on a bike now, so hopefully i've learnt from my mistakes and won't have too many bins in the future, but at least i know "if you're gonna bin, do it on the grass... it's softer"
my foot and neck are a bit sore this morning, so i'm gonna watch a movie have a shower, get over the pain, fix my headlight bracket and then go for a ride :D

Sorry to hear about your bin....
Get your foot and leg checked out...by the dr's....
Glad your bike is repairable...
Wish that I was healing up a tad quicker than what I am at the moment...
Damn knee took the full hit off the tank or handlebars or the side of the car. (not sure what the knee hit)
still stuck in a leg brace and on crutches almost a month later.

Sorry to hear that... my foot and leg, and even my neck are feeling way better after the bath i just had... hooray for those random relaxing bath oils :D
I'm gonna go fix my bike now :)

tell me guys, what did ya think of the route, i mean i have done it 5 or 6 times now, its good fun, as you can tell the old DT takes the corners in its stride!
man, the dude on the VFR (mental trousers?) could ride well!saw him pitching that VRF into some twisties in such a smooth way....thts style:2thumbsup
sorry for the guys who had the off's, im glad everyone walked away.
big thanks to Teflon on his TL thou-r who tail ended the pack and took care of both crashes! nice dude, but where is a fucking mechanic when ya need one?:ar15:
sorry about all the intersections, there were a fair few.:weep:
i will get another sorted soon, but it might be a gravel run down the coast.
thanks to all who came!

i enjoyed the route a lot. ok, there were a few too many intersections and difficult to follow directions with you hiding in bushes and stuff :D next time we should take some arrow things to attach permanently (is that possible) to mark out the run more easily

That was Warr on the trusty old VFR. I was on the YZF with the pink bits.
Crash a few times and you'll learn to be smooth and precise too :p

...hope the fairing on your YZF is ok...
I just finished fixing my bike :D not completely sure what to do about the tiny crack on the back of the headlight, can't be stuffed replacing it due to the fact that it works... maybe i'll just fill it in with some bog, sand it, and respray it...
here are the final pics of my now-fixed bike:
#1: Light is out
#2: From behind bike - light is pretty much straight... could use a bit of tweaking sometime

Well, my bike is working fine, and i'm getting better at my cornering :) I've just come back from a nice little ride around Brymer Rd / Bagust Rd in the Western Heights area. A few sharp corners and stuff with not much traffic, I shall be practicing around there very often, as I know it will give me some good experience :D .

I now have my own little mini-run to practice braking and cornering skills, less than 2 minutes from my house :D here it is (doesn't take very long to do, but it's fun).
follow the red-ish line, and then back the same way.
Does anyone else in Hamilton have any small mini-runs to practice cornering and braking, or am I the first?

You're on a sub 200cc 4 stroke, so go and do some laps around the lake :2guns:

laps around the lake as in just on the roads around the lake? my mini-run is fun, and i'm sure i'll get some decent experience from that due to the nice corners (no slippery or uneven stuff).

I'll take the VFR credits :) :) ... Must be some Green Rep coming you way with those comments!!
As for the route, Yep I could manage it again sometime. The only improvement might be a copy or 2 of a route map so if anyone wanted to lead press on we didnt have to rely on just your directions.
Interested in any rides even including gravel. I'd be happy to leave you out front then!!
The only other improvement could have been advertising during the ride that we are finishing at xxx drinking hole. Having a thurst quencher and telling war stories seems a fitting way to and an outing. Sunday it was just a bit up in the air and everyone had already made plans by the last stop.

Turning off Ruakiwi Rd and following Lake Domain Rd right around back to the hospital is a good little test for your suspension. Not good for larger bikes though, but for your little beast it'd be a nice medium speed test track.

I'll have a look at that sometime, the only annoying thing is the amount of traffic on those roads, plus the low 50km/h speed limit... unlike the 100km/h limit on the mini-run i'm trying out at the moment... but yeah, thanks

traffic is right, neat how Hamilton is becoming a cagers road rage nightmare...what about 'The Base' roundabout?? Sh-iiit what a pain in the arse on the weekends...back roads it is...Raglan is not a bad wee ride of an evening to blow out the cobwebs, no real hard core bits, out there for some F&C's and back home again...oh yeah, cool to hear you and the bike are in one piece!! Take it easy!!

I'm heading out to Whatawhata tomorrow to visit a friend on a farm out there, so I'll have to get a bit 'lost' to find some twisties :) are you doing the Cambridge to Hamilton toy run on Sunday?

tell me guys, what did ya think of the route,
It's one of those roads where if you get it wrong your going through a wire fence.. which can get really messy. The road going out to Kawhia would be better for a group ride.
