Stting in my car this morning, one guy on a green 750 and one guy on a yellow 1000 v-twin. Yellow one between fast and middle lanes, Green one between slow and middle lane... racing each other. (or at least doing a very good job of keeping up with each other. nudge nudge.)
we were doing about 40kph in the car and i would estimate they were doing around 80, 'manovouring' at pace to dodge merging cages.
north western motorway this morning just after waterview. if your reading this - you're naughty and you know it

Bah, split as you like just don't push up my ACC levies. Can't say I'm an angel either but I don't go too crazy in heavy traffic situations.

To be honest a 40kph difference is not that much. I feel very safe doing that every day going to work. Now if they were 80k faster, then I'd be worried for them.

Sounds about right. That is the speed limit.
Oh sorry, that's right, it's not a target. (I keep aiming too high anyway)

Those naughty naughty people. Lane splitting is bad and it is the root of all evil.

It's the love of lane splitting thats the root of all evil.

Okay, so doing it is not evil, but loving it is? Since when is love a crime?

... Since when is love a crime?
Usually if it's farmyard animal love. Some places it's naughty bottom love. In other places its also a crime for man-loves-man love.

80kph is still fast for auckland traffic. 40 in a car? Must have been before 7am!

Not knowing whether they were separate incidents, would it be a guilty mind if I was a little worried?? :innocent:
But then I saw they were together, and on the Nor'Western...
Honestly mate... tis a motorway, in traffic. Its the best place to split as the lanes are huge. Splitting in 80km areas is harder as the lanes are narrower, and not as common, so the cars don't expect it as much.
Then it gets harder and harder as the speed limit is lower, as the lanes get even more narrow...
*note to self* A zx-7r is not exactly an awesome splitting machine... a tad to wide :oi-grr:

I used to be a courier and as such I dont condone lane splitting and have never tried to attempt such a feat its down right dangerious and foolish.

I thought in NZ we had to ALWAYS let the gubbinment get their share, --- sooooo that means that the speed limit is 112.5kmh (inc GST)...

Try it on an Ultra!
Or a Bandit with panniers on, it's like dodgems, you bounce from car to car.

How about a BM'r with all the cop crash bars etc??
After I got her I just figured that she had a biggish booty and didn't do any lane splitting.
A week back the motorway got really jammed up on the way into work an I thought, screw it, lets give it a go and the most amazing thing happened....
cars actually moved out of my way!!!!! :shit:
Maybe a combo of looking like a cop bike and having driving lights on. I even had an eighteen-wheeler turn his wheels away and move over within his lane (traffic stopped at this point) I was so surprised I almost fell off!!
Makes me think I should have left the radio box and whip aerial on the back:Police:
So to all those who commute on a big-ass tourer, my advise is to fit some driving lights and go buy a flouro vest :)

If you can't split...a bike is just as bad as a cage in traffic. Gotta be some perks to the deal!
