Thats how happy I am at the moment, got my new wheels today
Unfortunately it was time to let the old girl out to hopefully greener pastures, and no i haven't gotten gay so don't even mention gixxer:mega:
:ride: was way cool today as i went down to kaiaua to firstly scrub the tires in and to start 'running in' the new lady in my life.
She's my "Silver Dream machine"
Now am I going to start with the cruiser bashing?

:scooter: I popped into Mt Eden Motorcycles on Saturday and took a second hand unit for a test ride, I must say I was suitably impressed although it wouldn't take much to impress after the S83. Anyways whilst haggling with Mike about trade in etc.. He suddenly out of the blue suggested that I come back just before closing time and take the zed thou for my usual Sunday excursion and decide from there :blip: . It was an offer I could not refuse, in anycase I was pretty much sold on the bike as it was and this gave me the opportunity to really get to terms with the bike.
I must admit I didn't think dealers still done that kinda shit and really appreciated his thoughtfulness in the matter!
She's a real wheelie machine that one:Oops:
Can't wait to get her run in and have her voice changed into sumthing really throaty.

Excellent choice sir.
I was seriously considering one of these, still thinking I will get one in the not too distant future.

Yeah well I guess thats why I thought rather get something that can handle the corners, I was pushing the old cruiser too hard and found myself in trouble way too often. To top it off the cruisers brakes just wern't cutting it either.:Pokey:

I was looking at the Super Duke as a first choice but alas the price tag was a little too steep. Second on the list was gonna be the Speed triple, price also unatainable so the kwaka it is!:ride:

The Super Duke was too damn ugly for me, and that is saying something.
I rode the Speed Triple and loved it, one of those bikes you sit on and within a couple of feet you know you want it.

How does it compare to the Hornet? I guess it has more power at the top of the rev range and a bit less torque down low? What about the handling etc.

Nice bike man........ Love the look of them. (except the pipes) But that can be changed

How does what compare to the Hornet?
The Speed Triple really is a in a different class. The suspension is better sorted, the brakes are better it feels like it has more power on tap, the build, ergos and style are superior. They come with excellent tyres and braided lines for example, hence they are about $10,000.00 more.
The only Hornet I rode was the last of the ones before they had adjustable front suspension and it really did not come close to the Speed Triple. That said the triple probably comes set up for europeans and the Honda for asians.
That said the Hornet wins on value for money and does allow you to add to and alter easier if you are on budget, which most of are.
The Hornet would (at least for my weight) benefit greatly from a bit of money spent on suspension.

Vagabond used to have a Hornet, so I was wanting to get his feedback on the differences between the CB900 and the Z1000. Thanks for the info on the Speed Triple CaN

That twin underseat pipe conversion looks damn nice. The original pipe looks more like a grenade launcher than exhaust pipe.

It's been like well over a year since I rode the Hornet, but first impressions are that the z thou is a hell of a lot more powerfull and a gas guzzler, something like 180km/18l.
It's suspension is also advanced although the Hornet I had was not adjustable in front. But hey all I want at the mo is to have fun whilst riding and the thou certainly has that fun factor built in, just hope that the front wheel doesn't lift at the wrong time and place:shifty:
All in all I'd say if your'e looking for practicality then the Hornet beats it hands down, but if you wanna play around a bit then the zee is up for it!

I'm gonna have to live with them for a while yet as Iv'e spent all my hard earned dough on the bike, but would only replace them after a coupla thousand km anyway. Can't say I like them pipes in your first pic, perhaps similar to the last pic would suit me.

Damn fine choice and it looks good in titanium. When your ready to change your pipes have a chat to Mike about some Muzzy's. He did me an excellent deal on a set of titanium slip-ons for our bikes.

The second hand unit mike loaned me had Muzzys on, did it increase bhp or did you have to go witha power commander as well.
ps any other problems I should keep an eye on?

I haven't fitted a power commander although there is a noticable increase in power. You make a huge saving on weight. The originals are HEAVY.
Can't say we've had any problems.I had read that it pays to keep an eye on your header bolts. They can work their way loose but as yet I haven't incounted this problem.
Always double check your seat cowl is clicked on properly. Have heard of heaps of people who had theirs blow off. At $500 to replace it ........
Hated the original seat so saved up and fitted a corbins. Best improvment we made.
The bike is fucking awesome. You definately wont regret buying it.
