Hi guys.

After talking with Fizzerman last night at the riverbank I got the idea to post this on here if any of you are interested.

It's the first review of the (then) new 1987 FZR 750R (my bike) and FZR1000.

I have scanned it on my flash machine at work, and here are some smaller pics for you to look at (total of 1.04MB - SpankMe, if I am out of line here on bandwidth, please let me know), if you wish.

Hi-res (and I mean HIGH-RES!) pictures are available of this article if you are interested. PM me.

BTW, I've included a couple of pages of the 1987 buyers guide in the same mag. Interesting to see just how expensive the FZR750R was back in 1987 - over 50% premium on the GSXR750!

Which reminds me -- if the new Fazer 600 is coming to New Zealand it can't be far away. Has anybody heard anything about release dates (if any)?

If any , may be right. Yamaha NZ haven't shown much enthusiasm for bringing in a wider range of bikes, like the old Fazer (one of their best selling bikes, espec in Europe )
One of the reasons Haldanes chucked them in?

God forbid they bring in the unfaired one. It looks like it has been pre-crashed.

I thought it was the better looking one of the two!:D

OK, with all this Yamaha love going round, who can advise a place to get FZR1000 gearbox parts? #1 son has an 87 FZR and it jumps out of most gears as soonm as any power is applied. I know Buckets and Bits have one, but $1200 for the engine/box is a wee bit much for a 17 year old bike.

Also advise on splitting the cases - is it necessary to remove the head and barrel to get the cases apart? We tried opening it up once, had every visible bolt & nut undones, but the cases wouldn't part easily

The collection plate is now being passed so we can strengthen SPMAN's beer googles.

LOVINGLY pre-crashed! Jeez Louise you're hard to please, young Jim! Yamaha has knicked the headlight unit of the Brutale for the new Fazer 600.

If it was bullet proof like Suzukis or Kawasakis I would have, but I've been told Yamahas are delicate :bash:

Personally I think its pretty cool. Especially like the new style frame - not a single weld on it.

And that headlight is okay too. Don't so much reckon its the Brutale one, more that streetfighter look.

I'd like to own one.

I think Haynes do a manual for them. There was a copy of the factory manual online, but it has gone :-(
If it is like the 400, then basically everything has to come off, including the clutch. Can't remember about the rotor.

Have a look at http://parts.yamaha-motor.com/scripts/EmpartISAPI.dll?MF for the microfiche - should show all the bolts and fixings.

I reckon it would look better with a flyscreen or mini-fairing but it still looks pretty smart. Yamaha's lava red is a great colour. The FZ6 reveals its R6 pedigree with that odd linkage for the gear shifter. I'd like a ride before praising or condemning it further.

BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO Pete you are correct going by experiences. But I might suggest Yamahas are less delicate under abuse than a Honda!

Yes,I beleive there are a couple of bolts that go from the top down under the cylinders.
I think I've got a brand new shift fork(The second gear one) for one somewhere(I'll look and come back to you),I was gonna fix mine 'till I pulled her apart and found lotsa other bits that were buggered too.You just replace the fork and get the gear dogs re-machined/undercut.
You can get aftermarket gasket kits from aussie.
Sold all my bit's to a guy in the deep south sorry....

Yup. I agree. Maybe I should take one out for a ride.

Be nice to try something with the bars above the triple clamps for a change.

Still, its about $12,500 more than I can afford.... :(

We (the Team I werked for) ran a FZ750's and two FZR1000's in successive Castrol Six Hour races way back when...never gave a bit o' trouble...
