Some of you already know, but we just hit 12weeks! only 28 to go now! :wait:
Mother and baby left NZ Tuesday and have just arrived in Scotland today to be with Grandma. I'll be leaving for the UK in May (hopefully earlier, need to sort Visa and $$$) and seeing what this whole fatherhood thing is like....
Any advice?
Also means I'll be selling the bike, and starting the licence process again in the UK. Anyone interested, give me a PM (shameless plugg I know - but it's for a good cause!)
Will be organising a piss up before I go, so keep an eye out for the post.
:drinknsin
have attached a pic of "lil' Welly" as Katie calls the spud.

Any advice?
Awesome, congrads.
Advice.... enjoy the last full nights of sleep you are probably ever going to have.
If the baby is a boy remember boys only need 3 things.
A mission, (jobs, tasks, responsibilities)
Rules,
And the knowledge the rules will be enforced fairly.
If your baby is a girl, Buy a shot gun now, you will end up needing it to threaten boys in her future.
But in the mean time, tell your wife the first time she asks you to change a nappy that you will do the next one. And when she asks at the next nappy change, say, oh, I meant the next baby.....

welcome to the club, I got four, mmmmm
riffer
16th March 2006, 20:11
Yeah, four for me too.
Funny how that happens. One day, carefree happy and with money in the pocket.
The next - you feel like Al Bundy.
Oh well, I've still got most of my hair. Pity its falling off my head and landing on my back.
Kids are fun (mostly), and hard work.
Advice - just remember:
1. It's supposed to be a challenge. Look at what you are raising.
2. You are supposed to be broke. This helps you realise a) how good you had it; and b) how good it will be when they leave.
3. Kids will say "I love you" and "I hate you" in equal quantities - even before they start to speak. Don't take it to heart.
4. Don't sweat the small stuff.
5. And whatever else - be understanding - you thought you were wrong a lot before - wait until after the sprog's born.
Enjoy fatherhood.

Congrats! as a new Grandad, I got a scan of our Grandson, too. I said to my daughter when I held little Aston for the first time, "It was only yesterday it sems I was holding you in my arms!" She's 26 now and a new Mum! Time flies way too fast! You be sure to find as much enjoyment as you both can in the birth of your little one! It goes by real quick, even though it seems to take forever to arrive! :first:

Congrats all round.
Advice:
Enjoy them while they are young. Too quickly they are teenagers.
Don't threaten anything you are not prepared to carry out (more to the point carry out anything you threaten!).
And Psalm 42 - Get the shot gun anyway, If it is a girl you'll need it, if it is a boy take up skeet shooting - hoby to do together (and good entertainment).

But you'll enjoy the biking scene over there; you'll meet some proper cool people!

Cheers for the advice and Well wishes everyone. :grouphug:
Velox - my visa for the UK will only be for 2 years. So I intend to make the most of that time!
Katie broke up with me shortly after the scan. tTheres still alot of love between us, just no 'spark'. Does mean I cant stay in the UK on a Defacto though as we arent a couple. Sucks big time. But I'm still going to be in my Baby's life, so thats ALL GOOD!!
Still gonna get a shotgun if we have a girl tho!
Eman - re the licence - is that for full only? or can I do that with my restricted as well?
And theres nothing wrong with my sense of humour poos.
:drinknsin prolly next weekend :drinknsin

Sorry to hear the bad news matey.
My Wife left soon after we discovered Natalie had aa muscular disorder.....
Just remember that custody laws in UK are not as good as they are here in NZ.....you have to fight for rights as a Father in UK but in NZ you get automatic shared custody........things may seem okay now but just be careful mate......
I have also posted this in case ya don't read post.

<snip> news about you and Katie... <snip>
Couple of things...
Hormones do wonderful things when preggy... I'd be careful making big decisions about now. Hard as that is.
Also - don't confuse being a daddy with being a partner. They're two different things - and each is awesome in it's own right. They happen to combine nicely too.
We've been through ups and downs, especially around the preggy and birth periods.
Good luck chap, and PM me if you want any offline chat. I'm here to help, but happy to keep my nose out of things - your call.
