View Full Version : Busted! 40km/h legislation strikes again

Yep, I got done. (Burnt Face Man anyone?)
93 in a 50, 28 days, $510 bux0rs. ouch.
I was SOO fucking dumb, I didn't realise there was a cop RIGHT BEHIND ME at the lights, which I had been waiting at for a couple of minutes.
Nice clear road up ahead, vroom, heard the sirens as I pulled into my destination up the street. Hmm.
Worse still, I passed the cop in question (at a perfectly legal speed) just 100m before, on the side of the road. He must have though "hmm, biker, let's get 'im!"
Teh sucks.

93 in a 50 is pretty fuckin stupid to be honest and if you were not aware enough of your surroundings to see a cop behind you then riding at that speed in a built up area is pretty inexcusable.
Keep the hooning for the open roads or motorways, built up and residential areas have speed limits for a reason and abusing them like that just makes people scorn bikers even more. Especially in the nice little villages and towns on our favourite roads.

Im (kinda) sorry if I come out sounding like a biarch, however 93 in a 50 zone is dangerous. Plain and simple. At least you can admit that you were dumb, but for not noticing the cop? I dont think so, you were dumb because you were doing 93 in a 50 k zone. Do the words personal responsibity mean anything to you?
Your last statement really contradictes the rest of your post too, btw. Sorry for "preaching" but really 93 in a 50 k zone what the hell were you thinking?!

Still 93km/hr in a 50 on a bike is a lot less dangerous than a truck doing 70 in a 50, or a Mother in a 2 tonne SUV txting and putting on makeup.
Not many people get maimed or killed by having bikes hit them....compared to 4 wheeled vehicles.
But yes it was a pretty silly thing to do.
I generally keep my speeding to the open road, easier to justify when the roads empty for miles and the suns out. :)

I agree. 43 over the limit in a 100 zone, fair enough. But in a 50 zone, that's nots really on.

93 in a 50K area - well if you accelerate from lights you sometimes can creep up that high let's face it, but still, it is illegal and potentially unsafe so you need to face up to the consequences.

Riding it back to his house, I could kinda understand why he got the ticket. It's a pretty violent bike, I found myself going 100 indicated (so only like 80) and thought "oh shit, slow down". My RG is far more sedate, I assume because a new piston is overdue

most people bitching about the people criticising 90 in a 50 are misreading the argument
it's not the fact that he was speeding, it's the fact that if he'd gone to a 100k zone where he could have quite legally gone 90 or even 100k/h (if the rg goes that fast...)

At the end of the day can anyone here say they have not broken the law at all??? Yes I'd say that doing that speed in a built up area was unwise but I'd suspect the culprit has learned his lesson and is unlikely to do it again. Having to loose the licience and fork out that much cash would bite. Dunno why people are getting so judgemental here, makes a worse place than what it actually needs to be...:slap:

RG, quicker off the mark. CBR, gets to top speed faster. That's the very basic analysis
And no more RG bashing! They could beat a fair few bikes on a twisty road with the right rider, and they are pretty damn quick for their size

NOT every 50 k zone is a suburban street thronged with hordes of kiddies chasing balls onto the street............many are more open and less populated than 100 k zones in the McKenzie country. A typical "blanket" reaction favoured by , oh so many people, because an authority has deemed it so!

its a 50 zone! thats the speed limit. i cant believe this. there is no gray area. 70 is the very upper limit of how fast you should be going in a 50. up to 70 you are still breaking the law - just not being a complete cock.

Im all for people using their eyes and the brain one hopes they have been endowed with and actually assessing ALL situations, then acting appropriately. - regardless of blanket laws made by authorities.

I am going to be quite bored for the next 4 weeks. I think that'll be into uni mid-term break? I'd better find a replacement vice quickly.
DO WHAT THIS GUY DID, HE's AN EVEN BETTER ROLE MODEL THAN WINJA.
I could kinda understand why he got the ticket. It's a pretty violent bike.
Violent stock rg150? huh.
RG, quicker off the mark. CBR, gets to top speed faster. That's the very basic analysis
Hondas obviously suck.
And on another note I was 1kmh away from a nice walk on my first ticket, but not as 'silly' circumstances. I realise how easy it is to speed creep when you ain't fully concentrating. Just ride it out and learn a lesson that there is a time and place for everything.

Exactly - I'm quite happy to admit that I often do 100-150km in 50 zones - ie it's 2am, industrial area on a Tuesday morning - safer than the motorway due to the lack of cars etc.....
Errr .. right, up til you hit a block :shit: , 4x2, or other such article as you might happen about in those parts

Theres a certain street in industrial Orkland, that Im sure is a 50K zone, yet, last time I was there, with about 40 other KB'ers, I'm sure the speeds were rather in excess of that posted limit......not to mention the attitudes of said two wheeled conveyances...........seem to recall the occasional car and things......people on the footpath......
Nah....musta been dreaming...........

If you were outside a school then I can't seem to raise much in the way of sympathy.
At the same time, I have done some stupid things in my life and I doubt I have finished yet. I hope you are able to take something positive out of the whole experience.
Lucky no one was hurt and it's only 28 days without your bike and 164 shifts at Macas.

Damn right! His bike revs so hard, it's almost impossible not be in too low a gear. I was cuising to his place at 9,000rpm+ most of the way. And he has lower profile tyres so it tips in so quick

Shit, you must of had at least 20 secs in which to get to 93kph to realise that it was a silly idea?

Give the RG more credit than that. It's quicker than a CBR (except when going over 120k)
EDIT: Oh, you got rid of the CBR. How come?

The CBR was slowing me down, I want an R6 or F4i, but Im still saving.

Fair enough. Why not think about a motard as a possible next bike? Haven't got the top speed of a 600 but you won't be needing that kinda speed on the road

True, but Im not a motard person

Not the brightest idea as you have admitted...but agree with the point that it is way safer than a car doing over the limit but lower speeds. Just check it using physics! Ek=1/2mvsquared.
Bad luck dude, keep them eyes open for the five oh aye?

I wasn't untill I got into racing one. Absolute blast. Hopefully save up for a 2 stroke 250/500 and get it road legal in the next few years
