I have just got home, i locked the guy up he was chased off the western motorway and led a pursuit through town that was called off.
No longer pursued he entered Sky City Casino did a 180 burn out, took off and smashed into some large terrecotta vases inside, ran over a girl and then took off onto Victoria Street and did some more burn outs.
All the passers by did nothing till and ex army guy decided enough was enough and tried to pull him off the bike on Victoria, couldnt get him but when he took off onto hobson his clutch had burnt out and he was pulled off his bike.
Locked up and opposed bail, was supposed to finish at 7 but i just got home. File is a inch thick already...

it would have been an interesting test of character to see what 'you' would have done if 'you' had been one of the people he did the 180 in front of at the casino.
i would like to have liked to have thought i would have been the type to do an american football style flying tackle at the dumbass and take him off his bike where i would have repeatedly kicked the shit out of him till the cops turned up.
realty is i probably would have been just as dumbfounded and imobolized as the rest of the surprised people in the foyer so BIG ups to the military dude for taking action. its a special breed of people to do that sort of thing on the spot.
closest i've come was chasing a little bastard out of a liquour store who stole a 40 of jack right in front of me. but being rather unfit i couldn't have caught him. and besides, there aren't much things faster on two legs than a %$#^ who's just stolen something ;-)

Holy shit, not a good look for us bikers eh? That'll make it to the media surely. Will (from your experience) he be charged with a specific speed or does that all go out the window over a certain thresehold. IE, dangerous driving, endangering the public, disqualified, etc or will they nail him with 2##km/h?
Lazy7
19th March 2006, 18:38
they can probably clock him using the helicopter but i doubt its admissable is it?
they have a hard enough time enforcing speed camera tickets. everybody is always bitching about the calibration.
i'm not saying i'm doubting the helicopters estimated speed. just saying he'd probably get off if they tried to pin it on him.
although standing next to his hot bike in full gear and saying he wasn't riding it wasn't the smartest defence he could have thought of.
running from the cops and getting caught is a bigger offence than getting stopped for speeding isn't it?
just remember Chris Rock saying "If the cops have to come and get you, they're bringing an ass whoopin with them!"

I havent heard anything in the media, we had two quite serious stabbings that night and they weren't in the paper as well. The media doesnt always pick up whats happening and sometimes they choose not to report it.
We had seven failing to stops in our district that night, normally the only reason the media will report about them is if they have crashed, or they think we are to blame or there are special circumstances.
It also depends on what Police Comms Centre sends out to the media as well.
I get emails from Police Comms Centre, with the same info that is sent to the media and the Police Comms Centre sent no info out about the Sky City story.

Mikey strikes again... "catch real crims..." So what does he think a "P" head on a stolen bike is?
Can't help but wonder what Mikey will do if his bike was ever to be stolen. Surely he wouldn't think of calling the Police? Surely not...
As for the 300kmph dude... Eagle has video on board doesn't it? Who needs speed detection equipment if the chopper is flying at 300kmph and struggling to keep up, capturing it all on video for the judge to see...including pulling into his own garage etc etc...dumbass...
Lucky some drunk driver didn't pull out in front of him... but guess who would get the blame though? Not him, not the drunk driver....

Dunno why you fucking pansies are so down on mikey.
His point is not irrelevant, even if it may not be elequently expressed.
Sure we rely on our police force to protect us from e-jits like the git at sky tower.
But what are traffic doing? Every time I get a speding ticket, its doing 10 kay over on a deserted 4 lane street at 7 in the morning. Just absentminded. Or ticketing you in a passing lane when you finally get a chance to pass the van thats been doing 70 in a hundred zone and has a que of 200 people behind. I ask you - is 125 really unreasonable in a passing lane???
They should get the fuck out and get these arse wipes that pour oil on the road from midnight to 3 am every friday and saturday night.
Basically, it's much easier to ticket mum and dad, joe average on his weekend, than try and catch the dangerous bastards, and that doesnt worry traffic one whit.
And puh-lease, was he doing 300 on greenlane? I doubt Rossi could get to 300 on a production sportbike on green lane. Estimated no doubt by traffic.

Here is what Tony Marks has to say about getting a Hyabusa to 189 mph (302 kmh)
"Testing the 2000 Suzuki Hayabusa last summer, I learned a lot of things about traveling at 189mph. At least four miles of straight, visible, empty road is a necessity. It helps that road is flat and of good quality because large undulations that you'd never otherwise notice, are transformed into launch ramps at high speeds.
You also have to tuck in tight. Not so much your elbows, since they're already pointing rearward, but helmet and legs. I nearly broke my neck by sitting up at 140 while coasting down from some insane speed"

What, so if criminals drive cars and motorcycles, your primary method of containing them by handing tickets to them for a hundred bucks.
Sweet, we'll revenue them to death with speed cameras, ambigous speed signage and bizzare new traffic laws that we wont tell anyone about.
Please explain to me, how the no seatbelt ticket you gave my dad (on a pension) when he got back in his car and shifted it 6 feet to a carkpark with some money left on it made us all safer?

I agree, I know the inside story as I have relatives in Police force.
This rant is purely reserved for traffic. Perhaps, not traffic, but the crap managment behind traffic that makes the best officer, the one that tickets the most pensioners.
Okay. Apologies to anyone that reads this that is in the police, or traffic and isnt a "I-dont-care-I-just-gather-the-revenue" variety.

Crims use the roads, cops give them tickets, crims get disqualified, cops lock them up, cops take their POS cars off them, cops find stolen gear and drugs in their cars when they stop them, cops don't give a toss what clowns like you think!
Not a primary method, just one of many tools of the trade.

I didn't give your dad a ticket and I don't care that he got one.
This is what I was referring to.
A rather carefree attitude when it comes to handing out tickets, to anyone and everyone, and not really giving a f*ck!
Rightly or wrongly, I believe when the cop goes back to his car to check the licence details etc with base, perhaps he/she should ask if the driver in question has had a ticket in the last 10-15 years. If the answer is no, and the infringement is minor, then just give them a warning. THEN all the citizens who have been so well behaved for most of their driving lives won't be so horribly offended with petty policing.
For instance my father got a ticket 18months ago for 112kms/h, (his first ticket since he was 21 (some time ago now) and made to feel like a criminal.
Unfortunately the above wouldn't help me any, but the next generation of New Zealanders is just going to grow old living with demerits, periodically. But at least the current older generation could be shown a little respect.

This is what I was referring to.
A rather carefree attitude when it comes to handing out tickets, to anyone and everyone, and not really giving a f*ck!
Not At all. I warn more speeders than I give tickets to, I give compliance on expired WOF, rego and drivers licences but I actively target any dangerous manner of driving and dangerous vehicles. However one area that I show no compassion at all on is the wearing of seatbelts.
If you aren't wearing it you get a ticket, I don't care who you are, what your driving record is or what your excuse is. I've seen too many broken bodies to care what you or anyone else thinks about it. I've lost count of the bodies I've had to clean up in the mortuary, trying to make them presentable to the relatives who have the grissly task of identifying their expired loved one.
Do you want to come along next time? Even better, would you like to come and witness the post mortem and see for yourself the internal damage done to fools who don't wear their seatbelts.

THEN all the citizens who have been so well behaved for most of their driving lives won't be so horribly offended with petty policing.
I do that now. Not 10 - 15 years back but as far as I'm concerned if they have demerits on their licence then they aren't learning from the previous experiences and they can keep collecting them till their licence gets removed.
If their licence is clean then 90% of the time they get a warning.
For instance my father got a ticket 18months ago for 112kms/h, (his first ticket since he was 21 (some time ago now) and made to feel like a criminal.
Again, it wasn't from me so don't give me grief about it. If it had been me I wouldn't have bothered puling him over.
Unfortunately the above wouldn't help me any, but the next generation of New Zealanders is just going to grow old living with demerits, periodically. But at least the current older generation could be shown a little respect.

About living longer than ten seconds..he nearly got taken out three times, i have now seen the video and all i can say is that its pretty amazing.
He had decided that him getting away was more important than anything else.
Whether it was rape or not, three adult cops (at least one with a partner and kids) took advantage of, and exploited an 18 year old girl. In a particularly disgusting manner as well. From a purely moral persppective, these guys weren't fit to wear the uniform, much less reach Asst Commissioner.

Why are you so bitter against all police? i
If your unhappy with the way the police operates then i suggest you aim your thoughts against the government. Do you think cops get some kind of financial incentive to issue tickets? they dont. It is what the government instructs us to do.
The road toll has to come down though, it is ridiculous. Way too many people die on our road's.
I'm not bitter at all. I get on quite well with several cops. But I'll do as much as I can to make Pollies see the error of your ways. But as a cop you get to wear public opprobrium. Perhaps you guys should be lobbying the Police Association, as has been done in the UK, to force a change in strategy.
You can't believe that issueing tickets for 11 - 15 km/h over the limit, mainly during the day, is having any effect on death rates. In 6 years it's still hovering around the low to mid 400's. With all the tickets written it should be under 300 now.
Besides, the road toll doesn't really have to come down. LTNZ's target of 300 per year is just a meaningless number. We kill the appropriate number according to the condition of our roads, level of driver training and drivers acceptance of risk.

Sadly. Lou kinda has a point on this one. (the sex case)
But, is it fair to expect every policeman or woman to be celebate in the chance that their sex lives come out into open court in the future? Sure this shows a shocking lack of commonsense, poor choices and low morals but then again, how many marriages has the stress of police work ripped apart?
Should we even be surprised at this case?
The real question is, was it rape? Thats awfully hard to decide but either way, several peoples careers are over and I have a funny feeling this is not ending here... Appeals, magazine stories.. Bloody hell!
Now the funny thing is, why can't the good things the Police do get the same coverage?

They are ring fenced to traffic duties but they aren't so restricted that they can't respond to other emergencies requiring police attendance. However, even if they are first on the scene and apprehend the offender they usually won't take the prosecution file. That will be passed onto a GDB or CIB cop, which ever is appropriate, keeping the traffic unit on the street rather than stuck behind a computer generating shit loads of paper work.

I would have thought the Govt would want all possible cops included in the total.
marty
23rd March 2006, 14:11
it's probably because the true highway patrol numbers are actually quite low, considering the total police muster (less than 30 for the whole waikato - to cover 7 days/20 hours a day don't forget - that's like a police station the size of Huntly covering ALL the waikato!).
at any given time, there is only 6-10 hp cars on the road in the WHOLE of the waikato - from south of te kuiti, to meremere, to whitianga and whangamata.
the reality is that HP is really quite thin on the ground, lending more weight to if you're caught by a HP unit, you're just not paying attention!

Fuck me, any thread that mentions POLICE just goes way outta control, some people need to grow the fuck up, not you mikey you aight by me, as for the point of this thread, shit there are some muppets out there, Dyna50 on ya for locking the knob up, the whole GSXR bizzo, dont quote me but Eagle's top speed is in the 240kph range (whatever it is in knots, Marty?) so it wouldn't keep up with a GSXR1000 in full flight, but GSXR has to go round corners, avoid traffic and w whole heap of shit that Eagle doesn't, i'm no fool, some might disagree with me there, but i'm not dumb enough to take on Eagle, i've been given the learn late one night when a 180kph wheelie with my headlight pointing skywards attracted Eagle, doh, took me a while to figure out what the hell the bright light was around me and then i did think, fuck thats a bright moon, why didn't i see that before, before i realized it was the chopper, i slowed and waved to them to say how fricken sorry i am, they were prolly waiting for me to pull another wheelie, but i didn't have my scanner on so i dont know, but i look up more than around the road for cop cars, the old commondore is not much match for the GSXR, eya yea the raido i know, but rule of the thumb is short and sweet and if it means camping out somewhere and coming back later for the bike it's better than a convoy of 5 cars after ya after half an hour of running around residental area's endangering a shit load more people at the same time. yea i run it's not best but i do have some rules for it, i've been caught and i take whats coming no two ways about it.
Not really sure what my point is to be honest  but i highly doubt this guy got near 300kph on Gt South Rd, i think whoever claimed that he did was a cop caught up in the moment, a GSXR doesn't turn very quickly at that speed, and it doesn't stop very quickly from that speed, upto 240 odd yeah maybe.

1. The laws of this land are the laws - the boys & girls in Blue are tasked to uphold them - they are merely carrying what they are sworn to do - uphold the law.
2. Now we may or may not agree with the law - if you think it needs changing, dont moan at the enforcers - go to where these laws get dreamt up and put in place (i can hear you all roaring with laughter now...) the Government or your local MP. They all have email addresses - why dont you start sending them enough crap to fill their inboxes and get their attention?
3. I dont agree with some aspects of the law regarding traffic, and issuing of tickets in some circumstances, but these guys/gals are just the messengers - "shooting" the messenger doesnt change anything
4. The topic that started all this off was a success story that, IMHO, should have been reported - Good work guys, for catching the drug-filled idiot (and the 300 kay disqualified rider!

If someone else has to suffer for your enjoyment, (Having an idiot fly past at over 250kmh to disturb your peaceful 80kmh drive down the motorway DOES NOT COUNT) then hopefullly KARMA or a prison cell mate will come back to bite you in the ass.
The police have a job to, they get paid to do it. SO they have no right to bitch about how hard there job is OR moan about how they got no sleep because they were doing such a hard job.
:Playnice: I don't like most police that I've meet, I like less the criminals I've had to encounter. Leave me alone to ride/fly in peace :Playnice:

If we had that attitude of put up with it or bugger off there would be no cops or people in other hard working positions as there would be no hope of improving your career choice.
Yea .. You're so right, it's always better to be the boss than to work for one :)
I'd just prefer that if people had such bad issues with there jobs then leave, or try and actually push for better positions, better pay, better working conditions. Not to tell everyone and anyone how hard it is to be a cop, personally I don't find issueing grandmas doing 60k in a 50k a very hard job at all.
If you want to work with the scum of the country (ie police working with criminals all day everyday), I believe that a police officers impression and understanding of society would be flawed. "Suspecting the worst"
I respect (not like) policeman for there job and role in society cos its a job that I rate as high as a toilet cleaner.

I never knew it was rated as high as a toilet cleaner!
The onlt reason I mention any negative aspects of my job is just to let people know "hey, it's not JUST issuing Grandmas tickets for doing 60 in a 50"
- as if I've ever done THAT)
"Suspecting the worst' - mate, sometimes it's what helps us to survive.

Do you have a rubber stamp of the above??

The speed limit is 50k an hour, 65 is too fast though i do think that some areas in auckland should be a faster speed. The only problem is that if you want to set a speed limit higher say for example on tamaki drive, people will drive 10k over that so you do have to keep it at 50 k a hour.
Saying that people will just do 10 over and that makes it bad is bs. How about some of the industrial areas around Akl which are two lanes wide with few side roads and good vision...like around East Tamaki...set the speed limit to 70, watch them do the 80, and it's still pretty safe. The 10 over thing is a given.
The speed campaign does work despite what your saying, the road toll has come down substaintially over recent years. I do believe you are right in that currently it is over zealous and some of the assests could be used towards more general crime.
The roads in this country are rubbish i agree but that is not the main reason for crashes, its poor driving, alcohol and mostly, speed.
I'm glad that you can admit that the speed campaign is over zealous...but put a few statisticians in a room with the raw data on the road toll, and I can almost guarantee that you won't get a unanimous decision that the speed campaign works.
And how does handing out fines improve someone's use of vision, perceptive ability, car control, reading of the road conditions, distance judgement, reaction times, etc?
They say that speed is a factor in x% of crashes. There are many other factors, lack of skills probably covering most of them...so why only try to change the speed in future? Lou can answer that one, and I probably won't disagree...
Having said all that, please don't accuse me of hating cops. I don't. I've met some cunts, really small minded cunts. They are the minority though, and I wouldn't judge one that way until he proves himself so. I've got a heap of respect for your class of cop D50, dealing with the shit you do. Keep up the good work, I respect what you do, but don't use the fact that you deal with real shit to defend a limp, lazy, two-faced campaign on speed.

The association is pushing, they finally got us time and a half for working statutory holidays.
The Police were the only institution to challenge the law that time and a half must be paid to their employee's on public holidays. They lost but appealed, not because they thought they could win, but because the money set aside for the holiday pay was making good interest and they wanted to hang onto it as long as possible.
Even if i was on traffic i dont think there would be many grandmothers doing 60 in a 50, there are always idiots going way to fast in residential areas in circumstances where that cant totally control though.
Maybe that lets you understand what the mindset is of the movers and shakers who run us are like.
Fuck this really pisses me off. This hypocritial government forces it ideoligy onto the private sector and thinks they are exempt.
A coup is long overdue.

I never knew it was rated as high as a toilet cleaner!
People should remember that toilet cleaners are top of the list of important people!
From past experience with employers, if the boss is away the place runs fine (often much better), HOWEVER if the toilet cleaner or the person who makes the tea is away all hell breaks loose!!!
:shit:

i've always wondered about the sensibility of the tea maker and the toilet cleaner being the same person......

It was nothing to do with the Govt, it was purely the police delaying the inevitable for as long as possible. For what reason, who would know, presumably just to hang onto the $$$$ for as long as possible.

It was the interest spud, they money had already been drawn out and deposited, they wanted to hold onto the interest as long as possible.
I guess we all know that was what it was all about. Still, the back pay will be nice, when they eventually get around to coughing up.

Okay, but if the private sector tried that one on, we'd get hung.

The employer would be taken to the employment court, which is exactly what happened to the police and they lost. They began an appeal to the high court but the appeal was withdrawn once a suitable agreement was established between the police and the police association.

Meant to have 3 gdb - got 2, meant to have 3 STU - got two
2 of 3 CIB types away on leave/courses.
2 outstations on long service leave
I cover area 45km X 140km solo fairlt frequently.
Yup, overpaid and overstaffed.
And love the job, :woohoo: you meet the nicest types (Can't speak for the workmates but:laugh: ).
 Nice one! :dodge:
With police it is only a select few who wind the public up with petty actions, and stoopid judgement. School teachers are much worse. Some of the most immature and petty people I came across at secondary school were teachers. Not that some students were nearly as bad, but they are not setting the example. Dreading the day I have to go to secondary school for parent teacher interviews. Had a few very good teachers, but they seemed outnumbered by dipsticks. And we all know what dipsticks are good for!!!

An email I got espescially for all the police out there. Thought Scumdog might enjoy this......
Good, Better, Best
GOOD
A Central Otago Traffic Patrol Cop watching for speeders, but wasn't getting many.
Then he discovered the problem a 12-year-old boy was standing up the road with a hand painted sign, which read "RADAR TRAP AHEAD."
The officer then found a young accomplice down the road with a sign reading "TIPS" and a bucket full of money.
(And we used to just sell lemonade!)
BETTER
A motorist was mailed a picture of his car speeding through an automated
radar post in Central Otago with a Fine of $160 included.
Being cute, he sent the police department a picture of $160
The police responded with another mailed photo of handcuffs.
BEST
A young woman was pulled over for speeding.
As a Central Otago Cop walked to her car window, flipping open his ticket
book, she said, "I bet you are going to sell me a ticket to the Central Otago Police Ball."
He replied, "Central OtagoPolice don't have balls."
There was a moment of silence while she smiled, and he realized what he'd just said.
He then closed his book, got back in his patrol car and left.
She was laughing too hard to start her car.

True. The whole selling lemonade thing gives it an American slant. Still I thought the one with the kids was amusing
