View Full Version : I'm Going Blind!

Got the Learners Licence 3 months ago and passed the eyesight test with no worries

Tried to book for the Restricted today and failed the eyesight test

Clearly I am going blind because no reasonable testing equipment could be so fucked up, could it? Could it really be such a piss useless excuse for testing that it gives a completely different result over three months?

Do these places need to have certification on their eyesight machines to ensure they are set up correctly?

So it's off to the Optomitrist for me to fork out more cash get a certificate that my vision is fine.

Yeah i just had that happen to. the lady there said come back when they open cause if you have been sitting in front of a computer or the like then it makes your eyes tired and harder to focus. Funny thing was i almost bluffed my way through hahaha. I hat the O's D's and Q's they all look the same hahaha

I had a bitch of a time when replacing my lost licence card around a year ago, but flew through a couple of months ago when geting bike learners. depends heavily on the difference in lighting from outside, to the insed of the licencing place, and things like fatigue etc, not a very good test IMO

Do the eye sight test first thing in the morning.
Seems to be easier to read using one eye at a time.
Just need to remember there are three columns as each eye can only see two.

Good points, but tried them all. Last time the three columns were clear as a bell. This time there was no column to the left, so either my left retina has detached or the machine was set up incorrectly.....

No your not going blind!!!!!
those testing machines are crap on a good day..... and half the people dont know how to work them properly....
back when i had good vision they failed me cos they couldnt work the machine and i went to the optometrist and passed.... my advice... before going for any test with the AA.. .go to an optometrist and get a certificate... i have done that 3 times now.... and it speeds up the lenghty visit too....

These machines are notoriously unreliable. When this technology first arrived quite a number of optometrists tried it. I know of none that use it now........I wonder why?

I sometimes wonder if licence testers get a comission from optomitrists for failing peaple on the sight tests and sending them over for a full test and new set of unneeded glasses.

my left column was missing too....went to opt and doc [wont do that again, what eye check at the doc requires him to listen to your heart? feckin pig!] but opt passed my eyes no worries. i do have a lazy left eye that occasionally causes double vision if im tired or not concentrating. hasnt happened on the bike yet, but does when im pillioning.

those eye tests are fucked, seriously. i tried closing one and reading with the other, didnt work. my right eye only picked up the middle and right columns, my left the same, cept my left blurred the letter beyond recognition, lmfao.

Waste of fucking time fullstop. No matter how good people's vision is, most go blind when the get behind the fucking wheel.

Been there done that. I'm shortsighted in my left eye, the stupid thing is that if you fail with one eye, you have to wear glasses. However, if one eye is permanently damaged (ie, you can only see thru one) then that's not a problem!

Where's the fucken sense in that???

I had the EXACT same experience. I had just renewed my cage full, then only ONE month later went back to the same place for my bike learners and couldn`t see that left column. I was f*cked off, but paid $$ to go to the optometrist and then passed.:bleh:

And just because it poped into my head right now I give to you for your reading pleasure, Korn with 'Blind'

Are you ready?!

This place inside my mind, a place I like to hide
You don't know the chances. What if I should die?!
A place inside my brain, another kind of pain
You don't know the chances. I'm so blind!

Another place I find to escape the pain inside
You don't know the chances. What if I should die?!
A place inside my brain, another kind of pain
You don't know the chances. I'm so blind!

Deeper and deeper and deeper as I journey to
live a life that seems to be a lost reality
that I can never find a way to reach.
My inner selfesteem is low.
How deep can I go in the ground that I lay?
If I don't find a way to see through the gray that clouds my mind.
This time I look to see what's between the lines!

I can't see, I can't see, I'm going blind... [x12]
I'm blind [x4]

Busstid machines are useless!! I had the same thing with my full bike test, The two were interpolating, and the lady was like, no the machine is fine, I was like, I just last week paid 700 bucks for new glasses, and you are telling me my eyes are fooked?? apparently glasses can stuff the machine up, I wore contacts the time before that and no trouble what so ever, and the new galsses were the same prescription as the old ones. Machines are useless!! kill them all!!!

Oooh, butt plugs, where?? aren't they like earplugs, but instead of not letting sound in, they don't let sound and smell out!!

:pinch: Just try and avoid sphincter puckering frights or doctor will be up shit creek, with a forceps!!!:doctor:

Over the top... Get the test done. When they fail you, go straight to the optometrist pay for the their test, get the certificate and receipt.

Go back to the LTSA and find the name of the manager, give him copies of both, then ask for the contact details of whom you file a claim against for causing you the nuisence and damage by there failure to operate the machinery correctly. Then record all the excuses....

Also ask if they are clearly failing people whom have certs from a optometrist, can they provide any proof that they are not passing people who would not pass a optometrists test. Whom would be liable if someone has an eyesite problem there machine passed?

It's a screening test. It will give false positives (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_positive), sensitivity (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sensitivity_%28tests%29) is high, specificity (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Specificity) is low.

If you have a "lazy eye" or similar it should fail you.

Go to an Optometrist for the driver's screening test first (you don't need to get a full eyesight checkup) before renewing your licence.

So it was exactly as I suspected - 5 minutes at the optometrists, $20, and my eyesight is fine.

Those licence eyesight tests are a waste of space

Ask for a 'Standard eye test' at the optomistrist (sp) that costs $15 and only takes a couple of minutes.

You don't need to have a full eye test, which costs a lot more.

The eye specialist knows about the Standard eye test for licenses.

Many fail the 3 column test...

If you fail the test when getting the license, then you go and do the Standard eye test just before getting your next part of your license.
