seed?

DirtMad
19th March 2006, 20:09
A "seed" is someone who leaves the full downloaded torrent file on there computer shared for others (instead of leeching the file, then copying and un-sharing it) :slap:

Cool , you took the time to make the divx. Nice work dude

Oh, and mean racing, I shouldve gone! :chase:

Leave the DL window open for a while so that others can get partials of the file off your computer.

I watched it on telly today....

Saw the sidecars hooning around.... and so many races with Craig Shiriff (sp)and Andrew Stroud in them.

They didn't show the F3 class at all.

Yeah, it's a bit of a shame they don't show any F3. I reckon some of the classic racing would be neat to watch too.

Yeah I reckon.....

For those of us who didn't or couldn't get there on the day, for what ever reasons (Me, crashed the bike just before)

Thats it's a real shame that we didnt get a more variety of different race levels/classes shown on telly.

I was looking forward to seeing the F3 racing...

But at least they did show the sidecars racing.

download a program called azureus and open the file in that program and it will start downloading

You need a BitTorrent client (program). I recommend Azureus which you can get from here:
http://azureus.sourceforge.net/
It is java based so you will probably also need to download the Java JRE thing on the download page too.
Once it is installed, you can open the .torrent file that I posted and it will connect to all the other people downloading and sharing the file.
There are other BitTorrent clients, the only other one I've tried was the original BitTorrent client (www.bittorrent.com). But I haven't tried the latest version.
For a list of the clients, try here: http://www.slyck.com/bt.php?page=2

Ok I am using ABC bit torrent thingy, its gone green and seems to be downloadin ( like Bin loadin , but with not as much money )
Thanks Eric ( sorry I have just been 2 busy to give you a decent reply about your sprocket, Next week some time hopefully)

Now what do I do , leave my computer on ? with abc minimised or can I close the program and leave the computer connected.

I have unlitimed up and down so dont care either way.

How long do I leave it connected?

Stephen

What ever happened to direct down load? File size ?? different type of electricity ??

and before anyone starts i am an engineer , so will only read the instructions, manual under much duress

So whats the story with the SuperMotard class? Thought it would only be for Motard bikes, how did Steven Briggs manage to race a KTM 990, which is a road bike? Oh thats right, race class sponsered by KTM! So can you race other road bikes? How about a Speed Triple, or a MV Brutale?

Cool. I've ended up just putting it back together with a bit of high impact grease, hopefully that'll do the trick.

You'll have to leave the program running to continue sharing the file. It can be minimised to the task bar or system tray.

If you leave it connected until your share ratio (looks like it's marked "%U/D ..." on ABC torrent) is at 100%, it'll mean you've given back as much as you've downloaded. It's always good to leave it longer than that if you can, in case other people don't get their share ratio to 100% and to speed other people's downloads. I guess I should add that if there isn't anyone else downloading, there's not much point in continuing to seed the file. If there's not enough seeds, people can always come on here and ask for others that have already got the file to start seeding again.

Direct download means that everyone would have to download the file from the same place. In my case with only 15kB/sec max upload speed, it would take a lot longer for everyone to get the file. Bittorrent allows many people to connect to eachother and get bits of the file from eachother which speeds the whole process up and means one person doesn't have to contribute a huge amount of bandwidth.

I started to d/load but Azureus gives a Nat error. Tried to follow that through but... Looks like I would need to change a setting in my router to enable Nat. But I cant figure out what IP address to add. As Azureus only tells you the port it is trying to use. All my ports a secure so ??
Will see if anyone else in Hams has got the file

Yeah you will need to open up a specific port on the router. Use the ip address as the one on your computer. To find that out go to control panel -> network connections -> local area connection. Then click the details tab and it will tell you your ip address.

if you download the file that eric posted it will automatically connect you to all people that are either seeding it or downloading it.

If you want to download other torrent stuff go to http://isohunt.com and search for torrents.

yeah, I started, and it said 0 seed, 0 peers.
but now it's found 1 seed and 2 peers, so it's just going thru now. 15 hrs remaining - so don't switch it off peeps!!!! or should I say peers..

Once I've downloaded it, I'm just going to leave everything as-is, so hopefully you can all nab it off this computer at my work. It's T1 shit, da biz, so it'll be as fast as, and I don't have to pay for it..

Ok these new ADSL connections are f(#^%ng stupid... I have a 2mb connection and I'm only downloading at 10-15 kbytes/s except that since I'm uploading at my maximum ability I'm still having trouble doing other stuff while I'm downloading. (This page took a while to load) Anyhow, Thanks for the torrent and Thanks for all those seeding (Well I only see one seed but I'll be seeding for a while after I'm finished, 64% there...)

bugjuice
20th March 2006, 16:25
the download/link is only as fast as the slowest computer. I'm also downloading it, so you're sharing with me, and anyone else who's having a go. The idea of keeping a seed, means that it'll speed up as more of us leave it open..

like i said, as soon as mine is done, I'm leaving it open. If that's how you do it.. I don't know... anyone want to tell me if there's anything to do, to make it available?

Downloading now... I'll leave mine running quite a while after i finish downloading.... I always run out of bandwidth in the first two days of the month (1GB bandwidth), but still manage to do about 18GB - 26GB of traffic a month... HAHAHA Take that you Telecom corporate bastards...

I thought the angled race-cam shot was weird. Into a right hander, the bike was cornering nearly 90 degrees !!!

not true, it is a sum of all the available speeds from all the available seeds that have segments of the file that you require.

Say 5 people are seeding at 10k up, you can get 50 down, hooray for torrent

and yes it is good netiquettie *sp* to keep seeding a file, and some torrent sites penalise you if you leech more than you seed

EDIT: you can also download of people who haven't completed the whole file say BJ is at 60% I can leech some of that 60% off him even while he continues to DL

Yeah the cam on derek mcadam's bike was slightly crooked so looked like he was leaning over more than he actually was, a bit off putting. The one on jared love's bike was setup better.

Well it seems to have stopped download , 319 upload 376 mb ?? I leave the program running tonite , down load time was 3 hours at 20 kb./s odd,

The trouble is with Paeroa is that its a best kept secret. A secret, and shouldnt be a secret .....
Its Just as good if not better than the Isle of man, The quality of the bike is getting more professional, The weather beats The iom hands down, Just open a few more shops for the missus, get some decent beer * Dark star. 8 percent and warm to the touch, ( Most things that are warm to the touch are delightful. )

Oh and Ban those things on sticks with the red stuff on them what ever that red stuff is ?

Paeroa is just as good if not better than anything Aussie has,

Great viewing, and am off to watch it again. ( The Motards ...a 900 cc bike v a 450 ????? did the win carry any prize money?? points??? ,, If I was KTM I would be embarrassed. I rekon the guy who came second was the real champ ......)
