Well.... i kinda looks like a bike now......

As most of you know i bought this as a doer upper bike...

It had no fairings, dash, running engine etc etc

but heck, i thought why not.

And what a learning curve its been.... not to mention many late nights in teh garage swearing bad names at bolts that have not been touched since they were tightened in japan............ 17 years ago

I have finished the fairings now, they came out really well considering there was on 60% of them in the first place and the rest has been made out of fibreglass....

Its getting the Red (its red, the camera is shit and made it look pink) on the front fairing tomorrow and a fairing blade... then its in for a warrent of fitness. :woohoo:

i may even take it to taupo to race it in the SS class :soon:

cheers,

-RG

Ok ;)

so far its been $500 for the bike,

Engine crapped out when i got it (my fault i think the radiator was blocked)

It blew a head gasket which i believe was from it over heating and i did not know it was over heating because it had no dash!!

so i think it was about $400 for the engine rebuild.... thats was everything.

and about 200 so far for all the bits and pieces ;)

$1100 is a pretty good price for one of these :niceone:

now to get a WOF and REG ....

Credit to ya, not many people these days have the will nor know how to be able to undertake this. Hope the Honda serves you well.:done:

Shit that's a gooood deal. Why was the rebuild so cheap? I assume it's cause there wasn't many components to replace was there? Did you do it yourself?

I really should get a job and do something like this myself, maybe a motard

Sketchy_Racer
19th March 2006, 12:12
the rebuild was cheap

#1- i did it my self
#2- i know how to talk nicely

i did rings head gasket and valve stem seals.....

and a valve grind and a re-shim ;)

it was so fun....

I envy your ability to be able to do that sorta stuff. I need a project bike of my own

Sketchy_Racer
19th March 2006, 12:20
well dont envy me.

it is all very very easy with a manual.

they only way to learn is to try and fail, then try again.

my failures have cost me alot of money over the years , but alas, i have learn soooo much .

how bout you give your RG a full rebuild when you get a new piston... its not that hard. ;)

Love to give it a shot. Just need a piston and ring, can't wait till I do cause the thing is pretty damn sluggish

Ah well, at least I've got an excuse for when i keep losing races :p

When playing Tennis or Badminton at school, always get the crappiest raquet. That way you can blame any crap shots on it

Nice work RG!
I'm about to tackle my first major engine work as I think you know. Timing chains and tensioners on the VTZ of doom. Also found from helpful people at econohonda that VT MC15 motors are prone to blocking the top drive train oil journal so thats why they eat timing chains?????

Any advise for a first timer?

Looks good. Good on you for doing all that work yourself and learning as you went.

Finished spraying the red and putting the pin strip on,

Still having trouble finding a blade for one, and teh guy at Buckets n Bits isnt exactly being very helpful.

Tell me What you think
