Im in need of new Knee sliders/scrapers so I thought I'd throw it out to the kb community for advice.
I've been using a set of WURTH brand sliders and they have been bloody fantastic. No grab on the road and they have lasted all season --till now.
Wally gave me a set of leather sliders but they grab like crazy. Drunken Monkey kindly loaned me the set off of his leathers (thanks dude) but I wore the scraper out from new to gone in one 20 minute session. --not so good
I have a set of spidi scrapers but the small contact patch actually meant my knee was touching in a place with no scraper.
What do you guys use and how are they lasting /feeling??

I really aren't qualified to answer your questions here Frosty but here's a dude that sells 'em on TM for around $30.
Hope it is of some help.

Dainese eyes (2000) ones are thick and hard so they last ages and slide easily. They also have a nicely radiused edge on them which is really handy if you hit a cats eye in the road - it just skips over it. They can be found cheap on the internet (some on ebay at the moment).

Well im no expert.... but i recommend Bico (also called alpinestar)... Cheap, last reasonably well and are contured to your knee so dont rip off etc...

Im currently (or was) using Wiz sliders... Great Material, and they slide real nice... velcro lets them down abit, but not alot....

I brought leathers from that guy. The leathers are great but the sliders are crap. Lasted one day at manfield and thats after turning them around at lunchtime.

KK has been known to use chopping board!

I'm using spyke one's at the mo, good slide-no grab and seem to be lasting ok....
When I went hunting I found out that if you actually 'use' them you need ceramic one's, I used a set of plastic 'racing ahead' one's from 'treads and they were shot after a day at taupo, only just lasted the day swapping them around and turning 'em over all day....

I use whatever I can get hold of.. I could use your best china if you like.. cos I can't get my knee down. What happened to those ceramic ones? Are they any good?

I was thinking about layering a bit of fibreglass on my worn sliders has anyone tried that? Might save a bit of dosh.

Cut down chopping board for sure.....

i just go and find the hardest one i can. Cut, then heat to shape then staple the vlecro to it....

have done mine twice now ;)

I have them and they work great, no grab what-so-ever :shit:

Had nearly two years now and look as good as the day I bought them!:Punk:

I bought KK a set of ceramics a while back, to get him off chopping board, haha.

He said they we're really nice, and lasted ok.

I've been using standard plastic which are good for no grab, but dont last. Then I had a rubber/plastic compound set which are quieter, but a bit more grabby.

All depends on your preference, at the track you shouldnt get too much grab with rubber/plastic/ceramic, as its generally nice and smooth on the surface of the track.

Yep I've used metallic ones before.... squashed watties baked beans cans work well till the duct tape wears through. They spark real well!!

My baked bean cans cost me a couple of bucks.

Was good fun while they lasted - they are so loud scraping on rough seal I made an old lady who was walking her dog jump about a foot off the ground as I tore past with a shower of sparks behind me hahaha. Wouldn't spend big dollars on the real ones cause they are a bit wanky eh.

Interesting to here your coments about the velcro.
Good grip on the velcro requires that both the hook and the loop velcro are compatable (and in good condition. ie. it Does wear out).
Could you tell me the specific problem you had with them?

hooks on the knee slider arent big enough (deep enough?) to hook onto the loops on the leathers...

henderson m/c had some nice bling ones with 1cm steel ball bearings mounted in them. Were only $69... if i was a knee down person i would probably have bought them, i'm carrying enough steel in my gloves as it is though.

Did anyone else see an article in Performance Bike a few years back when they tested different sliders? My favourite was FIMO (sp), you can buy blocks of it at toyworld and then make your own pattern ;)

well just to update on this thread--i switched to the sidi sliders.
They slide well and dont grab and wear slowly. BUT they are pretty darn loud--So much so its a distraction.

just got back from the isle of mann TT

fantastic racing and these guys know what they are doing

watched fronm several view points and didn't see any of them scraping their knees

so what is up with the scraping of knees, is it showmanship? suitable for Moto GP only?or do the TT guys not know what they are doing?

different type of racing... most corners on the street, you wont have the same kind of lean angle that you get on the track...

Shaun... did you ever need to get your knee down at the TT?

For mine, I've just raced at Oran Park, and done ridedays at Eastern Creek and Phillip Island in the last 3 weeks, and my sliders still look like they did when they came out of the packet. Truth be known I'm not Mr. 110% on the track, but I was no nanna either and there are some tools on new R6 and R1 type bikes that were embarassed by the 5 year old Trumpy I was on (but then there were other guys on road and race bikes that made me look less than average too!)

Do you need to get your knee down on the race track? No

Does it help to get your knee down if you actually know why you're doing it? For sure.

Be really good to read Shaun's perspective on this topic.

I think I do bloody well on the track, and I rarely put my knee down. I have it hovering just above the ground usually to catch me if I lose the front end a bit. Still as I get more aggressive, I'll be getting the knee sliding more I think to just keep the bike safe, as it forms kind of a tripod without taking weight off the tyres, like say, a fixed footpeg would.
