View Full Version : Matching leathers to bike gay or cool?

righto. another stupid question. I've been looking around at some new leathers cause the ones i have now are from my first bike which was 4 years ago... and they seem to have... er... shrunk.
so i want new ones, and i dont want black. which obviously leaves me with coloured options.... but i am having the darndest time trying to find much green stuff to match the bike in New Zealand.
there is one guy selling green sports bike jacket on trademe and it doesn't look too bad. but what has really caught my eye is a kawasaki jacket on ebay from the states.
i think its really cool. AND it seems to have all the buiso in terms of armour and protection etc. but its branded... is this gay?
also i have a couple of other green options that aren't branded but i still quite like...
is this the equivelent of a boy racing covering his car in Horse Power Stickers?
EDIT - updated with prices in USD:
option 1: Joe Rocket: $425.
option 2: Icon motorhead: $290.
option 3: Icon sports: $350.
option 4: AlpineStar Stunt: $320.
option 5: Teknic $245.

Me, I reckon coloured leathers / jackets are gay (in all senses) full stop. Black is the only colour. But it's a free world. If you like 'em you're the only one who has to wear 'em. Why go through life making your decisions based on what other people think.

if you get a matching helmet with some flecks of green any of those would look good.

I think they look pretty cool, but if you swap manufacturers at some stage......... Neutral colour scheme might be more practicle.

green helmets are another thing that is hard to find for some reason. lots and lots of motorcross ones, but the only ones for road i can find in NZ are super nice (read expensive) shoei ones...

The first jacket is way cool, i have a blue and white bike and a blue/white/black leather jacket, was going to but the red one but it clashed with my eyes so i opted for the blue one.........i also have a black jacket with Yamaha on the sleves and tuning forks on the back, no shame in looking styley, you have to impress yourself.............:blip:

Never really been into the colour thing myself but some leathers/bike combination do look pretty cool. My Daughters buy me bright colured stuff for christmas ETC hence I am a bit of a colour coded mess as I have blue, Silver and Yellow bikes.

If you are going to stay with the green machines in future why not wear matching colours. Will look good and no-one would dare say it is gay. Black and you are just one of the sheep doing what is expected of a bikie. Stuff that. Do what you feel is cool bro.

As long as it is blCK AND has tassles you'll always look cool!
But for a sprotsbike rider the 'toothpaste tube' look seems to be the trend these days - maybe you could go that way - but with tassles???

Actually while tassles look real cool on a girl bikie some might think they are kinda gay on a bloke. The cowboy look, you know, of Breakback Mountain.
But then who would be ever silly enough to say it.

I think matching jackets are fine, full suit is probably going to far though :p
Changing bikes is an issue thou, and not just between brands. I've gone from a 91 zxr250 (green white blue) to a 2004 krr150 (green) only to find that the krr green is a lot darker and my green white and black teknics jacket does not match the colour at all. As such I'm going to have to try and sell it and get something new (OK dont' HAVE to, but want to :) ). That'd be all cool if the jacket was a few years old, but I only brought it six months ago.. :(

19th March 2006, 12:59
yeah. but i've only ever ridden kawasakis and think i will be quite happy with the bikes that they are doing well into the future. will also probably have my 7R for about 2 years before moving on as well. so its not a bad investment.

Truth is I've never even noticed the 'matching jacket' thing, just never thought about it.

I like the back view more than the square colours in the front of the green/black/white one. But if you are a Kawasaki fan. Is the price cool or bleeding expensive?
Actually I like red myself having a Honda machine.
Cheers.
PS Pity they have buggered around with the word 'Gay' (no pun intended) One of my girl friends was called Gay and it sort of spoils her name for me. I mean who would now call their daughter that?

The Kwaka or Alpinestar ones are the nicest. All black suits certain images, but for a sports bike (especially a bright green one) having coloured gear is much more appropriate.
R6_kid
19th March 2006, 13:25
easiest option is silver/grey which normally comes with a bit of black too. It tends to match up with nearly every bike, so when you decide to move on from the ZX-7R then you wont need new leathers.
On the contrary, some of those jackets look quite cool - and why would it be gay, they do it in MotoGP and those guys get the mad pussy!

What do people think about pink leathers on girls?
I love pink but I get the feeling it's not a popular choice.....?

Th colour of your leathers/clothes say something about you
If you are multi coloured then you just add them all together.
Beige - Cam, dependable, no fuss biker
Blue - A biker with clear thought, maturity and responsibility
Black - This biker requires protection from the outside world
Gold - Symbolises luxury, top-of-the-range, expense, sophistication and glamour
Green - Balanced and peaceful. The biker will keep the machine finely tuned
Grey - Enjoys a well-made, functional machine. Sometimes has slight low self-confidence
Mauve/Purple - Upmarket biker, but also rather naughty and self indulgent
Orange - A biker who likes physical comfort, pleasure and sensuality, though opposite to blue
Pink - A maternal biker, loving, nurturing and a strong assertion of the feminine
Red - The sign of a strong and masculine biker, exhilerating and exciting
Silver - The biker who loves luxury, speed and fine engineering
White - The biker wants uncompromising, clean excellence and the world to keep away
Yellow - Self confident and optimistic biker. Fun,yet more mature than the orange biker
Pink - A maternal biker, loving, nurturing and a strong assertion of the feminine

Blacks great - you don't have to worry about chain grease or tar. And if you scuff them it doesn't really show. Doesn't fade as much either. And will go with whatever bike you get in the future.

I want to get a slightly retro looking leather jacket in black/silver/baby pink, more something styly for riding around town and looking nice in than as my main jacket though. A friend agreed that pink leather is cool, but she'd have to buy a new bike first. Her current one is red, and red and pink would be seriously uncool.
Teknic show a pink and white leather jacket on their website, but they seem to stock different colours in different countries, so you may not be able to get one here.

ahhhh no. heh. Although I could go all dark blue which would match the lower part of the bike. But I am not wearing pink leather. Pink is a fat colour!!
Nothing wrong with pink bits (I really like riding things with pink bits :p ), but a pink base ..... not ever.

I personally think it is a little naff to match your bike with your leathers. But the worse offence is rider and pillion with matching leathers and helmets. I have black leather and black and blue codura with a red/white/black bike. I love the coloured leathers but would never try to match the bike I would just go for what I like and who cares if I coordinate or not as long as I am happy with what I am wearing.

MY bike's yellow, (i didnt get a choice) had to buy another jacket that fitted me, you guessed it "Fuckin yellow patern", i got some headphones for christmas so i can listen to some groovy music while riding, without asking the colour "YEP fuckin yellow,,, my saving grace is my pants are black ,helmet is blue, the last save is even though i look like a ponsonby fag, i can still pull great wheelies"-
this winter im painting my bike

I've got a 50th Anniversary Yamaha jacket, bright yellow in the Yamaha racing team style. Never used it on a Yamaha, never used it on a yellow bike... statistics show yellow is the safest colour, so I don't give a toss. Big ups to OAB for bringing it back from Japan for me :)
