View Full Version : kb rally 4 ?

While lamenting over times of old, I remembered how much fun the KB Rallies were, especially the last one at National Park. Even though for me personally it won't ever stack up to that again, I thought it would be a nice idea to see old faces, and especially meet new ones.

There have however been a few innuendo's, over how KB has lost some of its cohesion, possibly due to a huge influx of new members (which is actually a good thing), or due to the apparent souring of the relationships of old ones. I don't see any reason why it should stay that way, when the best way to sweeten it, and prevent it in the future, is to meet members in person.

As I suggested, a KB Rally 4 would be ideal, but even organising your own / private rallies would be better than nothing (but not as enjoyable I would think). There was once talk of a South Island tour, where interested Nth Isld'ers would tour around, picking up or riding with any of you Sth Isld folk that were game.

These needn't be organised by one person alone (any rallies), and any Sth. or Nth. Isl. touring could be organised individually. I'm hoping that at some stage this could materialise. If not, KB may run the danger of becoming predominantly a faceless or impersonal net forum, which can deteriorate even further.

I doubt it's anywhere near there yet though, as there seem to be regular and well organised track days and such like :ride: It's just a thought:drinkup:

I'd been keen on another one. Quasi's organised all of them up till now hasn't he?

It takes alot of organising and hardly anyone wants to commit till very close to the day so booking the venue is a nightmare.

Quasi is also very busy racing F3 selling Leathers etc. Are you volunteering to organise this one Stoney?

I dunno about that...

I know that there will alway be somebody new to meet when I turn up for a ride, I just think quite of bit of KB has subdivided into little cliques, people you tend to ride with often, and perhaps not really getting to know many new people.

Me personally... I already know enough people who are faster than me... don't really need anymore :(

Yea I agree with what your saying, maybe the concept of a rally would be a good thing. Reckon if we got to actually meet up on a rally then as we get to know others the B/S ?might decrease. If its not too far away from me and I'm not working I'd be keen to meet everyone on a ride

Hey Weasel,
You're always a good bloke to ride with. Steady, not stupid and you always ride the way you want to, not the way others "expect" you to. Good on you for helping out with Newbies and for being reliable. :)

As a new member, I have met many people in KB. Always have a good time but I do know many people don't like riding in groups of more than four or five and I do ride with some of these guys. Mostly, I think they like to ride at their own pace and keep the time of rides down.

I know I am always telling my missus I will be back at such and such a time and invariably, it's always an hour or two after that.

Larger groups tend to take longer to finish a ride and that's the nature of the beast. Socialising is great and so is catching up with new people, but some just want to get out there and ride and wind it up quicker.

The issue of accidents has been brought up often. Well, the simple answer, its summer and there are a lot more bikes out than ever before.

Reliable? Cheers man...

Isn't this about the time that you say you can't see us having a future together and perhaps we should just be friends? :killingme

While we were talking at the Moto-Guzzi rally at Otematata last year, Skyrider and I thought it (Otematata) would be a good venue for a KB get-together/rally.

Why Otematata?

Because it has got a lot of reasonably priced accommodation and drinking, eating and socialising facilities available and it's central in the South Island at least.

Find a similarly placed North Island venue and we could easily set up bi-annual functions.

Perhaps Moto-Guzzi riders may like to comment on Otematata as a venue?

Well I have raised this as a suggestion. What do you reckon KBr's? :spudwhat: John.

I'm happy to go on rides with ya any time mate.

My biggest problem is balancing the commitments and time with the better half. I could ride all day and every day.

Hey, just discovered while cleaning my bike that I've worn away half the side stand pavement foot. Wasn't my peg bolts scrapping all the time after all, even though they are badly worn again :)

Whoops, Hijacked the thread. :Pokey:

I like the idea, would be keen if they did do an event, since I joined KB, I have been out on a couple of KB rides and have met some real great people, I think in away I'm looking for a group that I would fit into, people of around the same ability as my self, so you have to get out on some of these rides to meet more riders

Totally agree with that inline. This forum crosses over to 'real' life and getting to know each other in 'real' life is a benefit of this place.

Yes you are.
The last one was great. For those who were not around, Quasi organised a night a ski lodge at National Park, people rode in from all over the North Island. It was a good venue for the purpose - central, reasonable priced bar, good food, roaring fire, drying rooms for any wet gear etc all under one roof.
It was good to meet people from other parts of the country - putting faces to names.

I'm really happy at the direction this thread is going! First of all, I wouldn't dare organise any part of the next KB rally! Why change the formula of a winning combination (Quasi as organiser! Oh, I have a prize to donate already!)

Regarding the date, as always that would have to be up to the majority I guess. There will ALWAYS be at least one person who can't make a chosen date, that's the unfortunate reality. The same goes for the location. However, once organised, those that were at the last one will know, making the effort to get down to wherever it is, and whenever it is, is WELL worth it.

I guess that means the ball is rolling? I'm happy to offer my help in any way I can Quasi, as I'm sure are many others:drinknsin There is no huge rush though, I'm sure everyone including you needs a fair amount of time to tie up loose ends (or partners), shuffle days in lieu, apply for leave, reasearch new or rarely used illnesses to get off work, study music trivia of the 18th century (for Paul_in_Nz's quiz), set up a counterfeit money ring to manufacture Quasi Dollars, practice new and improved stunting tricks, raise your tolerance to alcamahol, ya know, the usual KB shit...

PS Joni, so do I, hopefully more this time:drinknsin

yep I agree, excellant spot for a get together. Plenty of accomodation and cheap too, close to the refreshment place as well, and awesome roads to get there! Be nice to have a south and north island one...think maybe the south one would be better later on in the year, when the snows have gone for those us of without the all terrain bikes
Would be interesting to hear of the Nth island one, enough warning and a few from down this way might be able to make it up there.

I'll keep an eye on the thread.

That really worries me, I don't particularly want to go to a rally, where I don't know anyone, and possibly don't get along with anyone there either.

I think an idea would be to organise, through the long process of suggestions and votes, a suitable venue and date, and then all interested parties should add their name to the list. That way people who are undecided can see who is going, and hopefully see friendly faces and add their name to the list. There will always be new people, and like I said I think that's a good thing. Every rider I've ever met (seriously), and especially KB ones, are friendly people. And as we know, often a persons internet personality is vastly different to their normal, or person to person one.

At the last rally, I met people I didn't know in person, but knew from the site, and it makes reading posts in the future easier to understand, or more personal. I think to move forward, or lighten the mood, a rally with lots of new faces and all the "old" faces, is a great idea.

As for the location, I think it's normal to assume that if it's held in the North Island, most interested members in the South Island wouldn't / couldn't make it, and vice versa. For me personally, regardless of where it's held, I would either make a long weekend of a Nth. Isl. one, or a short holiday (1 or 2 weeks) if it were a Sth. Isl. one (I'm planning to do a Sth. Isl. trip anyway).

I think that it would be a Nth. Isl. rally, as I remember from the last one that the majority of attendees were from the Nth. (it might be nice to drive on new, S.I. roads. N.I. roads are getting "old")

Eitherway, no point harping over politics or grudges, best to forget and look forward to another great rally!

I hear ya about some less desirable members, bt just think what fun it will be to watch them get taken down a peg or two, and see that the bad arse shit stirrer is a pimple faced 16 year old lol, hey any trouble makers on the site wouldnt dare show up mate, I can always give them a long way round map to use so they arrive to late anyway, Im a bastard like that.

Im keen , Stonechucker is bang on as above, it is a great atmosphere and everyone enjoys themselves. Dont flag it for fear of meeting people you dont like mate, get into it.
I usually post the names of paid attendees anyway so you can always change your mind eh.

Right now we need a DATE, whats this cold duck thing, somone post the details in events please so I can see what ya on about.

I also need a couple of event coordinators, need to be imaginative,as well as loud enough to get attention of everyone.

This time we need some daylight hours to run some events outside.

other than that it will be a piece of piss

They just take a fixed number of bikes (last time i did this) so you can't quite take it over.

Up side, you can get a group discount for more than 10 which is nice. You used to get a particular person you would all book / pay and a trip number to quote to them to save anyone having to hold all the dosh.

Down side... Running a trip for that many people all together is bound to end in tears!

Cold Duck is yearly event held near Waipawa every May. It's at the CHBMC 'hq'. Goes all weekend like the Cold Kiwi does near Waiouru in August BUT not so cold as a rule and better facilities. Is run similar to the One Night Stand at Havelock North last month

I dont think you will get much trouble from those sorts, most of them are too cowardly to come out from behind their PCs. Anybody who spends the time, effort and $$ to get to a rally is prolly reasonable sort.
