Me weren't stunting tho....so not quite pot and kettle. I was out for a leisurely ride within the speed limits adhering to all the social constrictions associated with the laws of our fair road and police

If I killed one of my biker mates (or anybody for that matter) while riding at silly speeds or dangerous whatever, I know I wouldn't forgive myself. This is one of the main reasons why I refuse to do a track day. If I pick up new skills I know that I won't be disciplined enough to not use them on the roads.
I've met a lot of KB'ers whose personality doesn't stack up to the way they ride. For this reason I hope like anything that they're won't be any tragedies within the community that is Kiwibiker.
Although harsh I do believe that Yamahamaman has a point.

Remember the ill fated Paeroa Ride?
As far as I know, the guys who dinged were not members of the site.
All the Kbikers seemed to be quite happy riding sensibly within their limits.
I would happily ride with Death & his mates again, although Im rather slower and always ride within my limits, as do they.
The stunting display was done on a clear , straight peice of road with good visibility . The only danger was to the person involved if it all went bad.
No car drivers sensibilities were harmed in the taking of this film!
Unlike the tender moralities of some members of this site.
Yes, there are rather predictable reactions on this site!

I take umbridge at those comments Wkid.
One, Nhuahn was not doing anything stupid in my opinion, riding at 70 kph on a road posted 100kph; which is supposed to be a main highway fit for the purpose of doing 100kph is reasonable behavior in my book. Dumping gravel on a (non banked ) curved section of road with no signage and calling it paving is third world stuff, not to be expected in a supposed first world country.
Second, I did not "dump" my bike by the side of the road. It tipped over as the side stand sunk into the pitiful excuse of a road due to the deep gravel. Rather than return to the bike to pick it up I ran over to see if a fellow biker was unhurt after seeing him colide with a car. :(
So in future get your facst correct before making liablous comments about others. :moon:

True, about the safety issue on the road. For this case however, I was told by my mates about the conditions at the time the stunt was pulled and as SP man said, no one other than the rider was put at risk.
P.S. Stoppie was impossible on that thing. There's too much weight at the back and the skinny front tire with crappy brakes didn't really do their job that good either.

I know Nuanh wasn't being an idiot, and I know yours was a side stand issue (PS - I used the word 'dropped' - this doesn't insinuate or infer any connotations as to what you were doing - and technically you did drop it as you didn't check the surface you were standing it up in) and the others guy hit the pea metal on the side of the road and washed the front out trying to get off to help Nuanh quickly.
Me thinks you are a little tooo defensive and read my post completely out of context. It is YOU who should think before they react too quickly.....and you called this one grossly incorrect.

Stunts take skill and practice
Only pulled a wheelie once on the road... by mistake.
Took off faster than usual on my XR500
Not got much coordination for that stuff but on the farm bike it was easy to wheelie all the way across the paddock and didn't get hurt or damage the bike when I fell off.
Too old now to have to impress anyone even myself.
But I do enjoy good stunts done well, if they go bad... they knew the odds

Just because a road is signed 100, doesnt mean it is safe to do 100. Riding to the conditions....I'm not saying it wasnt safe to do 70, but the state isnt going to tell you how fast to ride everywhere at all times. Road signs are a guideline, not a rule. But i'm sure you know that.
I take it the gravel was a newly sealed section of road done in chipseal, with the excess still on there....I take it you have ridden on NZ roads before, and therefore know what to expect. Chipseal is cheaper and easier, and roadsigns get stolen. This is what being a good rider is about... Being able to anticipate these things, if possible, and avoid crashing. Ok, accidents happen, but when you go riding, so do unexpected things, and it is the *rider's* responsibility to look after themselves, not the state's responsibility to provide a perfectly safe road surface.
This is what they are attempting to do on some main roads eg SH1 around auckland, and I believe that this is the exact same reason why bikers avoid these very roads.

On one side Im thinking -Us bikers have a bad enough rep out there with the non biker community without them getting to see us proving it.
Before you guys say so what ---those non bikers are the one passing the laws that keep us on or off the roads.
On the other hand it looks to me that the "stunts" were out in the countryside and it looks like there were spotters so the only thing the riders would hit was the road not some innocent cage driver.
as well as that --blloody cool mono's -I just cant master that skill

its a death stoppie.
Waste of a perfectly good ZX-9R (or is it a 12?) Did the guy die as a result of that one then?
My take on the stunting on public roads thing? I've never wheelied the FXR on a public road... I may do some day for the entertainment value if I find myself in the mood for it while pulling away beside another rider, or wotnot. I don't quite see any Ultimate Evil involved. The only person that is really at risk is the rider himself (stunting with pillions on board should be Right Out). In the end, if we're all going to criticise each other for putting ourselves at risk, why are we riding bikes? Buy a Volvo.
It's still important to cultivate an attitude of humility about one's skills. If you don't crash, well and good, but if you bugger things up and hurt yourself or, heaven forbid, someone else, you better hope you've paid enough tax in the last few years to cover the public healthcare you're about to consume. And don't expect either sympathy or opprobrium from me. Your choice to take the risk. Not my problem.

So when are you going to upgrade the FXR JR?
When I (a) have a full license and (b) can afford something good enough to bother.
Confession: I've kinda grown to like the FXR and its 29 or so bhp. It's very good at what it does, which is commuting, low-speed back road riding and not falling apart. Obviously I'd *rather* have a bigger bike, but I'm not particularly unhappy. I might even just ride it until it wears out, which would be a terribly unsexy and unfashionable thing to do, I know.
250cc, 600cc, or Volvo?
Well, it won't be a Volvo...
I quite fancy a nekkid SV1000. If I can find a black one (mmmmm) for < $10K in a year or two's time you might see me pulling a few more wheelies around town on a regular basis. The missus has granted me larger-bike-buying indulgences on the condition that I get her a station wagon this year, so I have to afford *that* first...

I tried to stick one on my helmet but it wasn't flexible enough to stick on without wrinkling so I've stuck it on the white number plate board on the front of my WR and I'm happy to leave it there. I haven't put one on the VFR because there isn't really a suitable place to stick it without it messing up the clean lines.
As for everyone going on about people binning their bikes, I'm guessing this always happened especially back in the 70's when so many rode bikes and they didn't handle well, but we never had the internet then and we only got to know about stupidity (or is that daring exploits?) through word of mouth.
Still it was a shame to see the new Honda wrecked like that.
