pic & vid forum idea..

I was thinking about requesting a new forum for vids and pics exclusively. Not for the joke pics of some guys head stuck in the dirt or for the funny porn etc, but for the pics like JSGs desktop pics thread, and for vids too, like OAB wheelie vids etc..

cos at the moment, the current forums:
General Biker Ravings - pics/vids aren't really raving, they're glorifying imo
Rant n Rave - well that's for everything else but bikes..
Jokes n Humour - not all pics/vids are funny..

just thought a unified place (I know we have a gallery, but it's not quite the same, and not quite integrated into the rest of the site like the forums) to stick all the photos BD takes, or all the desktops we collect, or all the vids we find cool..

just a thought..

pr0n is a type of pic/vid. It's not humourus (unless she takes a dump on him when he doesn't expect it, or some asian beating the crap out of guys).. so can't see why not..


just thought a pic/vid section that's listed in the 'new posts' search too, would be a good idea..

good idea... in a way it has been done by the gallery. But i concur, would be good to just be able to go to one section and know that its only going to be videos and pics of bikes only.

Don't forget that pics and vids take up heaps of room on the server. At the moment, as far as I know know, only the pics/vids people find interesting enough to post, or those that are asked for, are posted.

Having a whole section for that sort of media will probably end up attracting people to not only d/l and watch, but also add some of their pics/vids (which they wouldn't normally have added), taking up unneccessary server space.

That's without taking into account the content of the media. Even if it were a members only section, there is no way of adequately ascertaining the age of members, which will then enable people who shouldn't be viewing certain content, access to it (it's a public forum, most of us are mature enough to limit what we post, but there will always be the few that don't).

Just recently, someone mentioned that the owner/operator of a website is liable for the content that is stored on it. That would not only be an issue in the availability of innappropriate content to minors, but also illegal content as well as copyrighted content.

Also, if the vid/pic section of the site took off big time, there should be voluntary donations from the users to KB. Someone would have to compensate for the extra space taken up (or the possibility that more space may be required), and the constant monitoring of what is being uploaded, and who is downloading it in certain circumstances.

I in no way have any legal knowledge on this topic, it is just what seems logical to me.

*EDIT* Oh, I meant to add what Marmoot said, which is that a better idea would be to either add the link of the vid/pic in question, or use the server space that most of us get with our ISP accounts (most of the bigger ISP's give you 5MB, or 10MB, or even more, when you have an account with them). If you want to upload vids any bigger than that, then that illustrates my point exactly, that server space would be chewed up. Also, people would think alot more carefully before putting certain content on their own accounts server space, whereas when it's someone else's they wouldn't) *EDIT*

the problem can be solved by simply putting links to the video instead of the actual file on the server.

That way, technically the vids would still be on other websites, not KB.

If the website linked is opposed to linking/leeching, then it would simply be blocked and there will not be a copyright problem.

SC, there's tons of pics and vids that already live in the KB vault. I'm not saying reload them again, just move them all to one place.

I know vids and pics take up more room, but nothing would change to now. Now, if the content isn't right, it'll be deleted. Same goes for the pic n vid forum. I was just thinking of one handy place to keep everything, instead of a few forums to go searching thru, it'll be just one.. And all the vids and pics will have a home instead of getting lost when the thread has stopped being posted in.

if you wanted some new pics for desktops from KB, how long would it take you to find a dozen decent ones?
that's all I'm thinking of.. not to create more hassle and waste more room. Plus MMs idea too, providing the links don't expire

another idea for the forum would be the stickies - could have a bike orientated sticky for the 4 main japs and another for everything else (*ducks for flying crap*) or have stickies for ~250s / ~650s / ~750s to 900s / ~1000s+ Kbers bikes, then desktop pics etc..

If it didn't consume too much time, it'd be nice to have a moderator rating policy, where only decent pictures get published.

If there was an open forum for pictures and videos then you'd find too many of Tristan naked trying to bait for a new boyfriend.

yeah, well for that, we'd create a 'horror' forum, and post it there. Or it'd just quickly be shot to PD. 'Course it'd be moderated, I'd even do it myself..

And it's a case of moving and adding to, what mostly what exists (or worthy of), and not re-uploading existing pics and clips

It's hard to browse so many different thread trying to find good vids when 1 of your hands are totally occupied...

I've tried right hand and left hand, and I still believe 1 common location for vids are the best for wa........i mean: KB's future.
