Anyone know if the new sealing has been laid yet on the Kopu to Hikuia road, or is it still a long, mushy brown, stretch of crap.

Spent ages cleaning the scum off my bike last Sunday. :(

It'll prolly be much the same this weekend, then there's the waitig for the cars to sweep all the loose metal off, then the small parts the cars dont sweep like the centreline and the centre of the lane, i'd say it'll be a fair while before it can be attcked again, but that stretch of road was in need of a freshen up, the trucks kill it in summer, tar snakes everywhere, it's was pretty dangerous for the unaware in the wet.

Was it really that bad to ride, or more so the cleaning afterwards?

reckon they will hot mix it like they did to the road just north of Tairua! That would be nice.

Damn, massive number plate mount thing...my undertray was filthy, but the plate was still really clean...what a waste of time.

I usually adore riding over the Kopu-Hikuai's, but the roadworks did suck last Sat! When Fight Club stopped at Tairua a number of us commented on how dirty our bikes got from it, little did we know how much of a mission it would be to get our pride&joys spotless again...i'm still finding grubby little areas of 'bitumen' here and there, and i spent a good 2hrs cleaning it last Sat evening.

Like you say Bruce, tis good that the road is seeing improvements, might have to start riding the Loop clockwise and take a left at Hikuai on the other side, missing the roadworks, and go straight over to Whangas/Waihi/& the gorge homewards. :ride:

I think I'm gonna have to take off the front and side fairing this weekend and clean the fusebox....it's lined with that crap as well I notice yesterday..........imagine that....the Fusebox, of all the fairness in the world..........

Flew across the Kopu-Hikuai at lunchtime and the road is still under repair.About a kilometre of roadworks on the western side being worked on.We have had some rain and looked slushy, also indicated by the mess on the tarseal after the roadworks. So,not a pretty sight as seen from the air.Guess you will have to do the full loop and bypass highway 25a.

Went through today. It's better than it was before, and the bike didn't get as filthy. Put up with that km of roadworks and the rest is pretty good

This road is up the Thames Coast side, and head towards Coroglen Pub, nice fast ride, and I used to take it all the time heading through to Whitianga. Anyway, awesome pub at the other end so stop of a few coldies if you choose, coffee was always good too!

Is that the road that has the sign saying something about a Kauri tree being down it? It's that town with a fire station (I think), a school and a pub, and straight after it (heading towards Coromandel) there's a long, open stretch of houses on the right, and beach on the other. Does that sound kinda like the place where the road starts?

Edit: Tapu, is it? Is that road to Coroglen sealed?

Isn't that road still metal? haven't been down it for centuries. Maybe it's sealed now then aye?

Be good if it is. Alternative routes always good to have up ya sleeve.
