View Full Version : Northern ride this Saturday 25 March

DMNTD
22nd March 2006, 09:00
Myself,Duc-Gurl,Tiller and our merry band of Northern innocents are off for a blast through our roads this coming saturday and yee all are welcome.
All I can say at this stage, until we can gauge the interest levels,is that there WILL be a certain forest that runs by the name of Waipoua and a particular gorge known as the Mangamuka's involved both are concidered by some as near perfect!
Don't care what you're riding or how much twist ya giving it as long as you stay safe...and don't pass on blind corners :wait:
So batter up...I assure you that all that attend will have a bloody good ride! :spudbooge

PS: A few spots to fit ya tent and the odd spare bed here if required too...

Hi Chris where and at what time are you leaving on Saturday....?

Well sir...I can post a definate time tonight as the initial post was to gauge interest from peeps from out of town.
Would really want to be riding out of town early so we don't run out of time...again.
At this stage I'd say Paparoa by 10-10:30am Saturday morning....what say yee?

John...shut up and bring ya piece of crap riding will ya? At this stage it appears ya joined this bike forum to pick up guys :shifty:

At this stage I'd say Paparoa by 10-10:30am Saturday morning....what say yee?

Paparoa seems like a good place to meet and 10 - 10:30 AM will be a good time as it means I wont need to be out of bed too early.

If there are a few people in Auckland keen on heading up, how about we all meet at Shell Westgate (Massey West) and then head up State Highway 16. Once at Wellsford, turn onto State Highway 1 until we hit State Highway 12.

My uneducated estimate is; if we meet between 8:30 - 9 AM and then head up, we should be alright arriving between 10 - 10:30 AM.

BEWARE I'm only on a 250cc Motorcycle, I'm going to be slowish, but that ain't going to hold me back. I'm keen on a good ride on some decent North Island roads. :headbang:

And Swanny, don't worry about riding pace too much as it won't be a race.
There'll be other quick cruisers too...all good, lets just ride while the sun is out! :ride:

If anyone else is interested in riding up we can meet at Shell Westgate and toodle up State Highway 16 until Wellsford, then up SH1 until State Highway 12.

We would need to leave Westgate around 8:30AM

Post or PM me if you are keen, otherwise I'll head off from my House on the Hibiscus Coast.

You don't need new tyres mate. Just come along for the ride. If you crash you get to join the exclusive "I just went on my last ride on these shagged tyres and crashed" KB Club.

Cheers, I REALLY do want to come, I LOVE those Northland roads. At the Opononi overnighter I actually left the party to ride down those forest roads by myself. But I've been getting sooooo much shit about my riding lately I really don't know bout open to all group rides.

AUCKLAND TO PAPAROA

SHELL WESTGATE, SATURDAY 25th MARCH, LEAVING 8:30AM 'ish

Just incase there are people interested in coming from Auckland but as usual are too lazy to read through the entire thread.

I will be leaving Shell Westgate at 8:30 AM (roughly) heading for Paparoa, hoping to arrive sometime between 9:30 AM and 10:00 AM. Traffic is likely to be heavy along State Highway 1 and possibly 16, however from memory 12 isn't awefully popular, maybe the occasional camper van and dickhead 4x4.

The route is simple.

From Westgate, go up SH16 then turn off onto Old North, carry on through then right and onto Peak road. Head along peak road until the church, turning right onto SH16 again. From there, following SH16 all the way up to Wellsford. From there, onto SH1 and then when we reach the Brynderwyns, a left turn onto SH12 (heading for Dargahole).

Following SH12 all the way until we reach Paparoa. From memory, Paparoa at the western end has a rediculously sharp corner, a 35kmp/h or similar. If you pass this, you've gone too far, the bikes in town should be easy to spot.

My bike only has a top end of 150 - 160kmp/h however I go medium speed through corners. If your on a bigger bike and want to follow me up, the route above is pretty accurate and easy to follow if I'm too slow for you. In which case your a cunt with a bigger bike compensating for your lack of riding ability.

And for the record, John is a homo.

See you all tomorrow.

Great to see all the old faces again and meet you for the first time Duc Girl.

TL Rider I'm sorry my condom broke with all the force created riding with you. If I had a stronger condom I would of certainly been a happier fellow today.

The trip back was good. 100 in the wet and 100 in the dry so the leathers are relatively blow dried.

Can't be farked typing more as I'm off to see a movie.

Today's ride was something...

...for me at least, it was great fun!! Nice twisties, sceneries, food, and a 2000 year old tree as big as my ex-wife's bum :eek5:

But I think what made it all the better was the company (you know who you are), no doubt about it, thank you. :D

Thanks for the wait at every junction and the vote of confidence (hope the wait wasn't too long, I need more practice).

I have never ridden a bike for so many hours in a day - 8.00am to 6.45pm! Wow! and it was the fastest I've ever been on a bike, anyway...

...now I'm all sore, but satisfied.

cheers!

Thanks guys for the post ride comments. We all had an awsome day, did anyone set their speedo at all? From Whg down to Paparoa (for us Nthrn crew), up to Mangatapere, through the centre Maungakahia Rd to twin bridges and onto Kaikohe, over to Rawene for lunch, down through the forest to Baylys Beach then home, we must have done at least 400-450kms.
The weather was overcast all day but peerrrrrrrrrrrrfect for riding. We got to Rawene and stopped for lunch. The plan was from there to possibly go up to Kaitaia through the Mungumuka George, but we could see the rain coming through and was starting to threaten the return home, so we decided to make a run for it. BUT WAIT, HERE COMES JustSomeGuy Condom ManDUDE We werent even going to get wet!!! But you gave us a really good giggle.
 It was a great day and the pace was pretty darn good all day. The ride through the forest was excellent (finally got my Mojo back after thinking it was lost all day):shit: . Really enjoyed your company on and off the road Duckaddict (must be something about ducks?) you did really well and just goes to show doesnt matter if your riding a 250cc whatever it is you ride or a 1000cc TL like mine, people can still enjoy a serious ride together, hope to see you up this way again soon.
Zed, Mate, your a ledgend, Im in awe of your riding. And glad you have joined us in enjoying our roads yet again.
Thanks TL Rider for organising a great day. Justsomeguy you do need to learn a few things, first time I've ridden with you, but you didnt give me cause to want to hurt you on this occassion personally, so thats a great start given all I've read about you:Police:
Looking forward to the next Northern Ride, seems to be a strong KB rider following developing up here.

BUT WAIT, HERE COMES JustSomeGuy Condom ManDUDE We werent even going to get wet!!! But you gave us a really good giggle.

Didn't want to do the rest of the ride wet...... didn't have much of a choice in the end as the wind tore the suit to bits as you saw.

Justsomeguy you do need to learn a few things, first time I've ridden with you, but you didnt give me cause to want to hurt you on this occassion personally, so thats a great start given all I've read about you:Police:

Yeah, don't believe all you read, some of it is over hyped bullshit from people playing chinese whispers.

Did over cook it in a couple of corners and fell off the powerband.

Only had one scary moment on the gravel. I was carrying too much speed and had to hold on until the bike slowed down while the back kept weaving around.

Hey when you were following me near the end of the day I remember almost jumping over a bump in the road, did the tyres actually leave the road or was it just one big wobble?

SwanTiger
26th March 2006, 12:31
JSG, some of it might have to do with the people you ride with, I've been on a few KiwiBiker rides now and choosing them carefully is important, especially when it comes to the company you'll be having.

Good company usually indicates a nice relaxed ride, fast or not, but it will always be relaxed.

How's the head today mate? :sherlock: There be a few people this end feeling a bit abused...in a good way
Twas a good ride for sure and we were VERY fortunate with the weather....absolutely crap here today and we know what my back tyre looks like now :blank:
Hmmmm...ya ducky suit would go down well right about now

JSG...wtf were ya thinking pulling out ya life sized condom...infront of people and all! I have never in my entire life seen anything so insane....ever! Mate...bling coming your way as you need all the help you can get :bleh:

All you need to know sir is that you ride very well and are welcome anytime up these ways :niceone:...

Zed ya should be called Mono-Man mate! Good riding with you sir...next time I'll make sure my tyre has some tread....well rubber at least:pinch: and we'll do that forest again all proper like.

I had a superb day's riding, the new gearing on my Blade increased the 'fun-factor' by about 50% meaning I was also able to save a considerable amount of tread on my front tyre lol!

Thanks for your company everyone, I counted 10 bikes at one stage and it narrowed down to a comfortable 8 for the majority of the ride.

As has been said the weather was ideal for motorcycling, apart for the last 30mins when we got rained on and Korumba revealed his yellow condom lol, at least none of us broke down in it like that Harley rider!

The awesome northland roads were in pretty good nick with some roadworks here and there to slow us down, some of that thick gravel was quite challenging as I watched Tillers rear end fishtailing from side to side through it...good consistent leading pace throughout the ride btw Tiller! :headbang:

BIG thanks to TL Rider for organising the ride, and to both you and Duc-Gurl for your hospitality and giving me a bed for the nite. The ride back to Ak today was horrendous with gale force winds and heavy rainfall, i had no 'hairy' moments but did get blown around alot and had to concentrate heaps more, got totally soaked through and had one of the most soothing showers in my life when i arrived home!!

Keep the rubber side down. :ride:

Anyways day continued without incident good to finally meet all the whangarei crew, made myself look like a toss turning up last at most of the meeting points - but hey I didnt throw the bike in the ditch.

I quietened down worried about the repercussions of the shit I talked, so played it cool, blaming the fucked chain on my preformance

Started to get to grips with the bike towards the end of the day, everyone was mint waiting and such for me.

All in all good day, great bunch of people and bloody great roads, oh and zed - you impressed me. (i didnt say that)
