How many k's has it done?
I just bought a 1993 bandit 400 with 48,000km for $2,200 privately, and it looks like that may be in better condition than mine (the paint is at least). So I'd say it's a good deal. They're supposed to have good motors, the same as the gsxr400 except maybe tuned slightly differently.
Go have a look at the forums at www.banditalley.com there is more info on bandit 400's there.

I think that you'll find it's a Japanese market version of the GSXF600. Provided it's been maintained and serviced regularly it should be a good buy at the right price. (The same as most Japanese bikes).

Has the Impulse liquid cooled motor as opposed to the air/oil cooled 600 one too, doesn't it?

Bugger you're right chaps. It's a liquid cooled in line four, Bandit 400. Check out Bandit Alley on the web. They've got a section dedicated to the smaller (250/400) Bandits.

Thanks for those links- very handy. Don't suppose there is a manual anywhere online, is there?
Oh, and it is just me, or is the turning circle just a bit... wiiiiiiiiide?

Hey Ms Jazbug - I see you have a steed again. Congratulations. Did I miss the announcement or are you being sneaky?

It's not just you. Coming from the Zeal, that's something I've noticed too, you can't turn the bars all that far before hitting the stops. It's not too bad though.
For the manual, sign up on the bbs/forum at www.banditalley.com and look in the members only section. Make sure you get the high resolution version if you've got the bandwidth.
Congrats on the new bike. :)

A sensible decision. You know there are GSF250's around too, if you like the look.

mighty fine bike. Was my first :)
I owned a UK model, similar to the jap imports, but with single disk on the front. Rode it year round for about 3 or 4 years, only sold it when I left the UK to move to NZ. No problems with it, the de-tuned gsxr motor is good. Only minor issue was the build quality - starting to go a bit rusty in places.
Cheap to run and could keep up with the best of them. Hell, I even lapped a race kitted fireblade at Donington on mine (ok, he mustn't have been trying), but it was good round the corners, just lost out to bigger bikes in a straight line.
