I have seen a lady get pulled off the rocks by a good sized kingi one day. Her husband was standing near her saying "you can do it, you can do it" next thing she was in the drink and the rod was dissapearing into the horizon. hahaha she was very upset by it all by damn it was funny to see!.

Lucky he didn't hook a shark otherwise it'd probably turn around and get busy.

I did my first bit of kayak fishing off the mussel beds of Coromandel late last month (see pics - caught this lot in an hour). Was dreading catching a Kingi for much the same reasons as the great vid. As it happens, one did strike but snapped the line which was a heck of a relief! I think I'll stick to a light line on the kayak :2thumbsup

Good stuff there BB, enough for a feed eh.
Which mussel farms did ya try, there are load up that way. The mussel farms out from Amodeo Bay (20mins North of Coro Town) are fairly productive as are the ones down the bottom end of Waiheke.
I go up to Port Charles a lot and the mussel farms are hot or cold up there. Caught and released 6 rat kingies last time I was out there.
We also do a lot of land based stuff up around the pinnacles from Fletchers Bay and around from Port Jackson which is pretty productive.

The farms just out from Long Bay towards Rat Island (just outside Coromandel Harbour). It takes about 15 minutes to paddle out from our house but I'd only do it in fairly flat water. I caught some decent Kawhai too but put 'em back as I couldn't be arsed trying to bleed them out on the kayak!

Great photo and appropriate too. A neighbour was fishing last year where I fished in the kayak and a big shark came out of the water about 50 metres away. He assumed that it was a Mako chasing Kingies.

We were out at the barrier in the Fitzroy One Base Game Fishin Comp and I was hooked up on a Mako for a while before it busted off...while I was hooked up we had another smaller mako tail walking not far from the boat being chased by one of its own and there was another big make around 12 foot I reckon about 100m away from the boat giving us an aerial display. Was wicked!.

We were on a 50 footer.
That same trip were were about 50k's offshore trolling for marlin when we saw this huge fin just cruising along.... stopped the boat and started throwing big chunks of freshly caught tuna out trying to lure it in but the bastard wasn't interested.
This may sound weird but I have this strange urge to jump on a sharks back while its in the water... I have grabbed a 5 ft shark around the tail before from being in just above waist deep water on a surf beach (Baylys Beach) and dragged the thing out of the water. Have pics to prove it to. I love sharks!.

Did you ever see the video clip of the guy that was playing a marlin and when it got right up near the boat it tail walked and lodged its bill straight into the guy eye socket!!. I saw it on tv one night on a program called 101 things removed from the human body.
