Could look at using the road from Coroglen to Tapu instead of the Kopu Hikuai road if it Has not yet been fixed up

beyond
26th March 2006, 13:53
Apparently the Kopu-Hukiaus is still poked. Okay when it's dry and water truck hasn't been over it, but last time the water truck had been and it was straight out mud and lime. No good for the metal parts :(

Coroglen to Tapu all sealed now then?? That'll be a novelty if its seal. :)

Hmm may be keen... the Kopu Hikuai road should be sealed by then

Fuck going over the Coroglen/Tapu road, 30 odd kms of metal road and crazy cunts in 4wds is not for me, we'll go through Coro and meet you on teh other side tho

beyond
26th March 2006, 14:50
Yeah, I don't actually mind riding in gravel if I have too, but the dust gets in everywhere (you no where). Much prefer the seal for cornering etc. and yep, the 4wd's are a menace on gravel roads. Apart from trying to runya off the road, they think tossing handfuls of small stones at ya is a good trick too. :(

Tapu Coroglen OK for the trailies but scary on da Busa. If the road works are still bad on the Kopu Hikuai then we will just have to go to coromandel. Oh well life could be worse..

beyond
26th March 2006, 21:41
Well, the Kopu Hikuias roadworks are only a couple of k's so it's no big deal. Get a hell of a lot less filthy then doing 20-30kms on gravel road. If the Kopu Hikuias have been water trucked, can just go real slow for those couple of k's. After all, the rest of the road is still might fine for riding. :)

Errrmmm, don't think I am pissing on someone elses plans please, but:
Adding the Whangamata section tosses another one and half hours to the loop. My arse is going to be fine on the 1400 but it's going to make for a long run for some.

Also, the Kopu-Hikuia section only has about 2-3 kms of road works and if it's been watered down, going real slow to stop the crap getting over your bike is still going to save heaps of time over adding the Whangamata add on.

You all know that KB rides take longer than normal because we stop more often and chat longer. Socialising is an aspect of these rides which comes with the whole package and the reason I mention this, is the loop can easily be done in four hours with lunch, but normally with a group, takes 6-7 hours. That's a pretty long day for some.

Just my rants and 2 pence worth.

If you do decide to add the Whangamata section, then for us Auckland people, we can still drop down by Hotel DuVin, go through Miranda and take the East Canal road to Paeroa which keeps us of the main road for 'ahem' you know what I mean.

Thoughts please :)

My mate Gary, with the R1 has had a knee op and won't be on his bike for a couple of weeks. His mate owns the Speed Triple so he won't be coming either.

I have a friend with an SV1000, Tony who may be coming but he hasn't been out and about much lately so don't give him a hard time alright. :chase:

Now my mate and I are taking our ladies out for dinner the same day so I gotta be back on time. Here we go again, they all say :) Always have to be back by such and such a time. It's called juggling the commitments and still trying to have a good time.

Be patient with me please. :)

Yep, the Karangahape gorge is being targeted big time :( 120kmh or more and you walk home. :Police: Tis a shame as that bit of road was a minter for bikes.

have you heard the Coro Loop is going to made a 70kmh scenic drive?

30th March 2006, 15:44
Ok fellas,

I'll be leaving later with Fishslayer and going through the Kopu-Hikuias as well.
We will be at the cafe on the right hand side, just as you pull into Tairua by 12.00 noon. I figure if the people going the long way through Whangamata really motor, you won't be there before then, more likely around 12.30ish.

So, if anyone wants to leave later, I'm meeting Fishlayer at Bombay Macdonalds at 10.15am and we are leaving at 10.30am.

Don't change your plans just because of us. If you were intending to meet the first group at Autobahn with ZRXER, then do so.

Oh, by the way: the weather forecast has now changed from fine on Saturday and wet Sunday, to wet all weekend :( :( :weep: Bugger!!!
BUT, they might be wrong yet again.

If it's raining or shitty I won't be going. Don't mind riding in the rain if I have to or are caught out in it but not by choice.

If i dont need it now, I certainly will tomorrow

over 500K today, my biggest single day's riding ever!

What a great day that was today - my 1st Coro Loop, appreciate everyone waiting for this newbie at each stop (apart from the last one :bleh: )
Hope everyone had the hell time that I had, its fair to say that was the most concentration I have ever put in, in getting those lines and the speed right, and what a great crew we had today!

Cheers Steve for organising... Crazy Steve, if you want that Keyboard PM me :) , Great to meet/see the rest of you!

The weather was perfect, and we all got home in one piece - cant ask for much more than that can we?

:ride:

Any pics?

**sigh**

Next time I see that cyclist that is responsible for me pulling a muscle (tipped over trying not to run him down) I'm going to run him down. Some cyclists are a fucking menace.

Another great ride guys & girls, thank you for the company & the pleasure, catch you on the next one.
Uneventful ride home apart from getting over the Kaimais & finding Goblin missing! 2much says "did you pass Kel?" 'No! thought she was in front of you!'
"FUCK" Hope she hasn't binned.....lets go back...fuck fuck fuck.
So we both head back & spot her in the Tauriko S/S......."what happened?" Oh i got cold so stopped to put on my jersey........
Bloody women almost gave us heart attack.

Great day for a ride yesterday!! Cheers Steve for organising.... (I really like your bike too, good choice!!) Had other commitments that I got out of to ride yesterday...hence meeting you at Tairua and leaving at Coroglen and doing the rest of the ride with Peripheral, who had to be home early too. Done the loop four times now, but this was the time first anti-clockwise... I prefer it this way, especially Whitianga - Coromandel.

Thanks Paul for the later start, otherwise I wouldn't have gone yesterday. Good to ride with you to Tairua, MLCrisis.

So Peripheral, did you decide to go home via the Hunua Gorge, or did you miss the turnoff to Clevedon? I waited for a short while..

Saw you at Kopu Blairos, ahead of the group I thought... did you miss the right turn, to Coromandel? Caught up with you in the twisties near Coromandel.... good lines for someone so new and never done the loop before. I turned round and did that section twice!! Just took one photo, and your bike happens to be in the foreground!!

But of course, I don't get lost!!!! Actually I hadn't been that way before so didn't know which was the correct turnoff to take. And damn that gorge was slooooooow, stuck behind a couple of cars one obviously on a sunday drive and no where to pass them.

You'd better lead through there next time.

Thanks everyone else for the good day. First time around the larger loop, it's all good. As Leong mentioned, had to get back early so didn't stop at coro.

Till the next one :)

Great ride & great company on a nice day..! Thanks to you all for your pleasant company & Cheers Steve.
Big ups to Blairos for doing his first loop (very proficiently) with only 2000 kays under his belt (ever).
Goblin you are living proof that keeping it smooothe keeps you fast in the twisties..
Mark, 3 more trips around the Coro loop should just about see that front tyre just scuffed in and ready to ride.! (gidday Olivier nice to see ya again).
That Speed triple is an awesome machine eh though not much room for luggage not even for Steves sweaty winter Jocks that ended up simmering under the "Hump" on my bike for the rest of the day (contaminating my pucture repair kit) though I did notice it had enough room for at least 1 tube of roid cream (oh yeah and where did Kornholio get to).
Could never get sick of Coro Loop though I do like the idea of new territory..!
