Hey I'm 15 years old and I am looking at upgrading from my Suzuki TS125ER to a Yamaha YZf250. I am on a limited budget (around $4000) and was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction, of what year of the YZf250 I could pick up for this amount of money. Also what years of the bike have certain kinks in them etc. Any help would be much appreciated.
Tom. :scooter:

I doubt if you could get a YZ250F for that much, but I've seen earlier YZ426 and 450F's for that price, but they will of had a hard time, also a big step up from the Suzuki. You'd get a good XR250 for that price though.

you could get my RM, but it's older - 1996, but it's farking quick. all your's for 2900 with a heap of spares, fresh piston, blah blah blah.

if you are on a budget i wouldn't reccomend buying a cheaper YZF250, because unless it has been rebuilt it will cause you trouble eventually, i would suggest a 125 mx bike, you can get a 02-03 for around $4000, they are just as quick in the right hands and the maintence is eaiser and cheaper

:bs: Haha nah it gets up hill fine, you just gotta keep it in the right spot. I get up the big hills on the farm easy in third gear. You're just a 4-stroke rider!

agreed here a 125 is lighter, and easier to handle , ie fitness doesnt need to be so hot , and from my point of view , 4k on a bike ...ouch. I ride an older model (91 ish , see sig below ) BUT the componentry has been up graded. The difference between an 05 and mine is mine is slightly heavier, the clutch is lighter on an 05 and its smaller ( a little )
BUT ...a full year of every weekend racing , including the bike price ( placing mid field and the occ 2 nd in enduros) 100 000 yen .
A new 05 , on Auction ,,,,, 500 000 yen .
Me i would buy an 2001 Cr 125 , and get the suspension done , springs and a revalve. then Spank the Bytch...

Hey Tom I would actually have to agree with Stephen a bit here. a CR125 would be good for you as it can be cheaper to run and might suit your size a little bit better,Working on the supension is another worthwhile invesment, instead of investing your money on a 250f get a 125 and spend the left over on a supension rebuild. just a thought.

Meh I'm actually thinking about putting the whole motorcycle thing on hold until I'm a bit older, I need to invest in my drums. Maybe when I've saved up in a few years time I might buy a bike again... Anyone want to buy a '99 Suzuki TS125ER? Lol.

Hey have any of you seen what Dene Humphrey is riding in the National Enduro Series this year. A YZ125!!!!!!!! Dam good bike. Easy maintenance for beginners(4 strokes pain in the arse) Really light weight (aluminum frame). Pretty good price. Can keep up with the 4 stroke 250s. You will find them a bit more fun than a heavy 4stroke.
At 86kg the YZ125 is dam fine.
But it would be handy if i knew your size and weight

Craig Brown also won the Bel-ray cross country series on a KX125 2 years ago, 125 are the most underrated bike out their and are a 3rd of the price to run of a 250f, and they start 1st kick all the time when they are hot

I do have my priorities sorted.
Drums are far more important to me than motorcycles.
Put that drum stick down and back off slowly....don't make any sudden moves or look anyone in the eye.
With a bit of luck no one will notice....
