Some time ago (6 months) you will recall I bought the wife a 250.

Her riding skills are incredible, for a girl who I thought would never get her own bike.

Problem now is , that the 250 is not doing it for her anymore, and as much as I hate the thought of it, she needs more CC's.

What do you guys think would be a next good step.

Please keep the following demands in focus when suggesting.

must be light, fully faired, must be able to pull the skin of a rice pudding

CANNOT be faster than the Bandit.

thanks for any help.

I recall that she also just got her learners or am I mistaken? I suggest a FZR400, but I never said that.

I suggest a rvf400.

But that's just me. ;-)

Pussycat engine and handling. Incredibly confidence inspiring. Be scraping the pegs in no time.

Oh, but used properly it's faster than a Bandit, so perhaps avoid.

SV650.

If it has to be fully faired you can get fairing for them but they look great half-faired.

Forgiving yet she won't grow out of it quickly. Versatile, will do pretty much anythng she asked of it. Reliable, good looks, comfortable, blah blah blah.

I agree an SV650S would be the best choice, however might pay you to also check out the Hyosung GT650R (fully faired SV clone). I know you had a bad previous experience with that brand but the GT650R is cheaper than the SV so this aspect will no doubt appeal to her indoors.

Don't forget Mr Kawasaki's great value packages: the Z750S and the ER6F.

If Mr Suzuki is smart, then a faired version of the spanking new GSR600 shouldn't be too far away...

I second that, stunning bike to learn on, and do anything on. I'd pay up $6300, since the km's aren't too bad.

I picked up a spanking new z750s on the weekend and based on a measly 220km that I put on it on Saturday I think I'm going to really enjoy this bike! Not fully faired - just a half fairing that actually works, so the ER6f might be the better option if this is a big requirement (IMHO the er6f looks like kawasaki's answer to the sv650)....

You might want to check out the ride height, I'm 6ft and don't quite flat foot at the lights. All on the sterotypical assumption that girls are shorter than me! :bs:

PS - Is a ZX6R slower than a bandit?

I am married to a most useful seat-height-calibrator. Mrs H is 5' 2" (in the old money) dripping wet, and probably about 5' 4" in her modified motorcycle boots. She "fits" the Kawasaki Z750S and ER6; and the new Suzuki GSR600. She would not cross the road to attempt a sprotsbike, as she finds the intrusion of the tank and low handlebars excessively uncomfortable. Good for people who only ride to the dairy or to the top of the Takas. But for people who consider 250km a short ride, forget it, "fairing" or not.

Like that ZX6 if I lived in the north isle I'd definitely have a serious look at it myself. But for your wife no:no: , pretty sure you'd be second everytime.

i an sympathise with your posistion. Its time for mygirl to leave the 250 behind. I have no doubt she can handle more power, dont know if i can handle having her on a sprots bike though.

My dilema. she wants a sports bike that suits short arms and legs, and weighs sweet fugg all.

just realised this was a member's bike for sale(doh!) so I wanted to put things in perspective about the value of these bikes.
It's true i sold mine in 2000 for $6800 BUT it was not nearly as good as Skunk's mrs' one. It had 30k on the clock which was high-ish for it's age at the time & it had been thrashed both at puke, on the dyno & on the clevedon/kk-bay/miranda circuit as well as subjected to daily akl city commuting rain/hail/shine. it also had 2 shagged race tyres on it. also it had gone down in a low speed oil slick fuck-up. having said all that it was still a good strong bike which i think shows how good they are.
the dealer i sold it to, gave it a wash & some fresh rubber & stuck it in his shop for $12995. I don't know what the bike is actually worth but i can say that it is probably a truly awesome bike ALL ROUND.
anyway that's enough grovelling from me, but just wanted to be fair & provide more facts as to why mine was sold so cheap.
cheers..
