Used to be able to do that right here in NZ at one stage too - but then the bloody stupid fucking locals started killing themselves on bikes, and we had that liberty taken away from us...it's been down hill ever since.

Read this earlier and was gonig to post something to do with Darwin, I knew it wouldn't be long before someone else did! I'm a member of a large sportsbike site, one of the members there posted a story of a guy he met at a stealership. The poster, an experienced fast rider, was on a GSXR600 wearing full leathers etc. Enter newbie 20yr old guy on his new purchase, a brand spanker GSXR1000. Newbie takes the piss out of GSXR600 rider, as he's on a 'bigger, faster cooler bike and doesn't need gears like he wears'. Our 600 mounted friend laughs, warns him of the dangers of riding in a shirt and jeans with no helmet etc. Newbie laughs it off, jumps on his thou and rides off, into the first guardrail he could find. He didn't even know how to turn a bike!

"Florida law does not require motorcyclists over the age of 21 to ride with a helmet unless they have at least $10,000 insurance coverage."
Do they mean you need to be over 21 and have at least $10,000 insurance coverage, or over 21 and have less than $10,000 insurance coverage to ride without a helmet?
Anyway, it's a shame it happened. Hopefully she pulls through.

Some US states require bikers to wear a helmet UNLESS they (the biker) have $10000 insurance cover (No, it doesn't make much sense to me , either).
I think the article is saying that there is no such requirement in Florida, if the biker is over 21.

Welcome to life............... Work with the new riders and lets not have this conversation about our new riders............ Set-up newbie rides and make it safe. Take the shit and don't challenge them. Experienced riders need not try and prove a point. If the newbie rider passes you, let the newbie set the pace and if they are silly enough to go to fast ......let them go. Don't chase them. Back off and they will get the message cos it is easy to follow and hard to lead.
A sad story cos everyone has somethin to offer.........

in Ohio, you need a helmet for your first 12 months on a M/C license unless you are over 18..

Thats rough alright. Man, what can ya say. No helmet. Might a coped a blowy in the eye. That would hurt at 100mph and certainly cause you to lose the bike.
I remember when I was sixteen, my mates friend died without a helmet just around the corner. They weren't required back then, but he was doing about 60kmh, ripped the throttle open to pull a wheelie, chain snapped, wrapped around his left leg and pulled him off the bike. Whacked his head on the kerb and it was all over :(
Fluke accident they reckoned back then, but would have still been alive had he been wearing a lid.

Correction. You have to stick to 250cc bikes on a learners there aswell. BUT you can apply for your full as soon as you get your learners.

RIIIIGGGGHHHHTTTT in the most litigous nation in the world you think that holds water? Or could it be read that the govt doesnt care if you a few chormeshiners bust there own heads on the blacktop so late in there midlife crisises and productive life. This is the same nation that allows machine guns and paperwork free handgun sales in some states, but made RGV's illegal.
There is no random drink driver testing, (you have to show to be off your tits just to be checked). No gun licenses, the bike test is a joke,it can cost more to insure a car than it does to buy one. Medical costs are crippling,
I dont think its that they govt expects you to take care of yourselves, its that they just dont care. Especially if your not affluent and live in new orleans. Lets give top level critical emergency jobs to completely inexperienced and incapable election supporters.
I'll take our govt over the US's anytime as the US govt is the best govt money can buy.

Yes there is

Yes there are and the ones here are easier.
,it can cost more to insure a car than it does to buy one.
But bike insurance is cheaper. $75 a year for me to insure my Virago and a Rebel.
Medical costs are crippling,
Umm dude, it cost me $75 to get the doc to check out my hand and find out why it doesn't work properly in the mornings. Same visit in the states would have cost me $15.

Can you possibly be as dumb as that fuck tard that went on TV shouting that George bush doesn't care about the black man?
I'll take our govt over the US's anytime as the US govt is the best govt money can buy. And yet you would pay less taxes in the states and what the government promises to do with those taxes will actually get done.

Maybe things have changed in the last years, but last time I was there the officer had to have reason to believe you were drunk to test you further. You never got cops setting up road blocks and breath testing everyone like they do here and no booze buses, they would have to take you to a hospital or station to get a test from you. Unless you were rolling drunk they wouldnt bother going through it.
The bike testing system is a breeze, it takes alot longer to get but once you have done it you can ride anything. You might have done the course on a GN125 but your able to get straight on a 1100 if you pass. I was teaching riding in the US and was appalled by the lack of progression. The only saving grace was that they often brought harleys, which were slower than the RGV250's learners were riding here anyhow.
Gun licenses? How come as long as I was over 16 I could buy ammo from k mart and I could buy pistols and semis from a flea market with no paperwork or license? I know that there were permits to conceal but appart from that there was no licensing.
One of my workmates who was a US citizen had to have some simple tests run for his MEDICAL insurance, it cost him 5k, the US has the most expensive medical in the world I believe.
Katrina speaks for itself. The head of FEMA proved himself, If you dont agree that his actions (or inaction) didnt show him to be a disasterous political appointment, I reckon you should own the title tard yourself. As for the black people thing, I dont think he is racist, but I think he would have moved faster if it had hit people who vote for him.
Id rather be taxed more than live in a nation that keeps its head high by standing on the throats of others. Living in the US was some of the greatest times of my life, its full of great people, but its sinking, and its clawing up those around it to stay afloat.

After a couple of visits to the USA I believe NZ has too much 'Nanny State' shit and overbearing laws that at times are not justified.
One of the best deals I saw in the US was where if you are unemployed you get food/accomodation/medical treatment - but you don't get cash.
And you get your drivers licence taken off you (until back in a job) as it cost $300 a year to register your car 'cos it covers full insurance, the state figures if you ain't getting a cash income you are not a 'responsible vehicle owner' as you won't be paying the insurance ergo shouldn't be driving.
Like to see NZ try that here, I bet there would be a shit-load of free-loading unemployed that would suddenly be employed.
While the US has pretty bad record of litigation cases I believe the also have a pretty good freedom for the individual record compared with "wrap 'em in cotton wool from womb-to-tomb" of NZ.

Admitedly the states has it's problems but for fuck sake every country does. Maybe a bit of a mix between NZ and american government would be good. More promises actually followed through on and laws that make sense rather than be either personall freedom overboard or more revenue gathering. There is my utopia heh.
Just stop saying stupid americans everytime someone there fucks up because the news doesn't show what the majority are like. Just the fucktard idiots that will grab ratings and make them a buck.
