People using the irc chat please note that I'm not going to put up with impersonating others any longer. Anyone caught using someone elses nickname will find themselves on the end of bans etc. If they keep pushing then it will escalate all the way up to me asking SpankMe to sinbin the offender on KB, and possibly worse.
Using someone elses nickname is right up there with stealing someone elses login to these forums and posting as them. Don't do it.
Mods, can we leave this thread in General for a couple of days please so nobody misses it. Thanks

The problem isn't me knowing who is who, the problem is other people don't know. I can find out very quickly and easily, but most people can't find out at all as they aren't server opers.

I believe anyone can use the whois query (by right clicking on the persons name anyone that didn’t know)
and if we start dumbing down the internet like your suggesting we might as well go on AOL.
Although I am not totally against what your underlying principal is, I do think your methods are misguided though. I think it would be better to talk to Spankme and Catnip and ask if we can have the ""feature"" turned off as it serves no real purpose on our chat other than good old shit stirring.

Here's a fact of life for you - the majority of people who use the #kiwibiker chat room do so using the java client. It's a very simple, one click entry into the room. It removes any need for people to know anything about irc, including what a whois query is and does (the information it shows can be falsified as well). Most people are comfortable with that level of knowledge about irc and don't want to know more. Others are more advanced and do a lot of other stuff.
The only truely effective way of stopping people from using others nicknames is to enforce nickname registration. I can and will do that if it's needed, but impossing regulations on people is the best way to kill something. This thread is a warning that if I have to impose rules I will. So far there is only 1 rule - don't impersonate someone else. AOL is so different I'm not going to begin listing the differences.
If you don't use irc then please butt out thanks.

Who's arguing? I just don't appreciate someone telling how to run a server as I've been running them for more than half my life.
I'll catch you in irc MidnightMike

I totally agree with you M-T. I use mIRC and can do a "whois" but I'm sure that a lot of people wouldn't bother to check if someones input seemed to be "a little different today."
