What does "10 chars" mean?

okay - been on here for a few months now and got a handle on pretty much all the lingo except this.

what the hell you talking about when you say "10 chars"

normally said in response to somebody elses daft comment?

if you do not post a message that is 10 characters or more it is deemed to be too short. "10 chars" is a short way of filling space.
