My wife heard from a security fella that it was someone lanesplitting between two trucks. Unconfirmed second-hand info of course. I suppose we'll get to read about it in the Press tomorrow. Not good. Take care out there folks:grouphug:

Christchurch Press this morning had a piece on it with a photo of the bike (late model GN250) and the victim was a 40yr old woman.
According to the report there was a truck & possibly a car involved. and circumstances of the incident are still unclear at present.

It would be on the stuff.co.nz website under 'Ch Press' but I've had a look and it's not mentioned.

The photo in the paper showed handlebars bent backwards although forks and front wheel looked undamaged. There was some rear damage but the side looked pretty undamaged (it was upright on the sidestand). Possibly a shunt from behind into the tray of a truck but I'm only guessing.

yeah I have seen the pic, and its sceary how little damage is done to the bike. I'm thinking the biker was rear ended and pushed under a truck aswell, all damage is from the tacho/speedo up and the rear guard... it looks very odd, I doubt that it was due to a lane split.

The women that died is in my age bracket, so it does kinda remind ya about shit... thoughts from me go out to all involved.

Now I've seen the press pics and yeah id say that what has been said looks like the most probable scenario...damage seems to be front and rear only...
It has got me very sad to think of some family suffering from the loss of a family member.
RIP fellow biker

A close friend of mine lost her 18yr old son almost a year ago from being run over by a truck...I guess it struck to my heart to hear about this lady

This is the best argument there is for getting to the front of a queue at lights.

Most of the time I try to get to the front and not have a vehicle directly behind me. In instances where I can't or decide not to go to the front I leave enough room for me to get out of there in a hurry and always watch my mirrors.

Be careful out there everyone.

RIP to the rider.

Ofcourse being at the front could have its disadvantages, but when there are already vehicles stopped at the front, splitting can have an additional safety benefit, as demonstrated here.

I always try and stop with an escape path next to me for the idiots behind me, they would probally target fixate and plow into me anyways but at least they do have an option :shit:

Being a big chicken, I'm always a little afraid to lane spit, especially at the lights, mainly because of the fear that I will get to the front and then stall my bike when the light turns green!!:slap:

That may be an issue down there in the wops. Up here, they'd have to concertina a zillion cars before the accident reached a bike at the front.

Thing is Lou, at some stage you will have a car or even second car come up from behind - they're the ones that can punt you - it's not always the zillionth car back that fails to notice it's time to stop.

That's what i'm saying Scummy. Having an empty lane behind you in Auckland is a rare and wonderful experience. I think it was April 1994 when it last happened to me.
And if it were to occur again, I'd be so overcome I'd run the red to celebrate.

I have found out some more information in regards to this accident, from a witness to the event.
It seems that a 4wd decided to change lanes to the far right of 2 right turning lanes at the last moment (to head right to the overbridge from Blenheim road for those of you who know the road) and clipped the front wheel of the bike (who just happened to be there, poor fk), which sent the bike onto its side where it slid under a truck.

I hope the bugger gets well and truely done. They have left behind a family without a mom (4 kids I think?), just for their absolute stupidity and ignorance of what is going on around them.

Sad so very sad :weep:

What a bloody waste... One moment of stupid impatience and a life is snuffed out! Whats bloody wrong with people? If you are in the wrong lane - tough! Ride it through and find some place safe to turn around!

Very sad post this! RIP

What a dick!! Hope he roasts r-e-a-l slow!!

Had a friend who actually caused an accident and killed a guy (both cages), I guess having to live with the fact is slow roasting... If there's anything like a conscience at work, that is...
