View Full Version : Motu where were you? Capital Coast photos here

OK had a great day at the Capital Coast Adventure ride today. KiwiBikers that I met there were Big Dave, Clint640, Recycled and Oscar, and 4skins organised it, but there was no sign of Motu. Saw Beemer's old man, he got a prize for being a cheapskate on his entry fee. I took a few photos as usual but the KB crew didn't ride as a team so they probably don't feature in my pics.
Are Suzuki riders wimps or something because I had some DR350 rider (not my Bro') moaning at me because I showered him with rocks as I raced past on my WR. I gotta pass each time I stop for photos eh! When he whinged on I told him I didn't mind. Later in the day I was able to shower him with muddy water too. Now who buys a dirt bike and doesn't expect to get dirty. That boy needs to toughen up or watch "On Any Sunday" a few times and see what he should be enjoying, or change hobbies.
OK here's a few pics. First few are at Plimmerton school with the crowd gathering before the start. Then a couple in Puketiro forest.

Here's a few more. If any others were there and recognise themselves - speak up.
Someone's LC4 didn't want to go at Belmont and some handsome guy has a WR250F.

Everyone looked like they were having fun especially being able to ride into Parliament grounds.
It was lunch at Sawyer/Motorad - busy on Vivian Street with all those bikes mixed with the usual busy car traffic.

I saw all you silly sausages riding through town today. I really wanted to give chase and see where you were all going, but alas I needed to do stuff.
Nice pics.

Oh wow, looks exactly like what I would've liked to ride.It sucks being tied down to a business too much...not what I had planned for my life, but that's how it goes.I weighed it up that with business matters and a couple of problems with family members that the stress involved in doing the ride would outweigh the stress relief from doing it.So I'm doing a Twinshock Trial tomorrow,I hope I have a fun day...says rain for tomorrow....
I see a Yamaha 2 stroke coming through Devils Gate....it's not a DT,so did someone ride a YZ...?

Thanks for the great pics Merv, brings back some cool memories, and also helps with a decison I have been struggling with lately.

Excellent Pics Merv. I too would have loved to have made it down but alas family commitments precluded that. Maybe when i'm old and crusty and the kids have left home i'll be able to do a few...... If they are still going then. The whole country might be tar sealed by then so people don't have to get their pajero's dirty?

Motu while the 2 stroke might look like a Yamaha I think it was a Gas Gas EC300. There were at least 2 we saw on the ride.
Adventure rides take a lot of organising and the last one of these was 3 years ago and 2 years prior to that, also organised by 4skins so I thank him for doing a great job but doing it each year is just too much.
If the lower North island plan had kept working we would have done a Pukemanu ride, a Horowhenua Adventure tour and a Capital Coast Adventure every few years each. I can't complain because I've never been an organiser.
F/F what's your plan then, is it a road legal dirt bike?

Contrary to earlier forecasts the weather has been too bad here today so I've been out cleaning the bike and riding it around to make sure its thoroughly dry before I park it in the garage so that's cool. After rides like this one the paintwork gets hell so you have to spray a bit of CRC or similar on and thoroughly lube the chain or else next time you look at your bike it will be a brown rusting hulk. So good end to the weekend.

Our trial was cancelled today,so no rides for me at all this weekend.I went up anyway as the weather looked to be clearing as it was supposed to,but it was really wet at Orere Point. We usualy ride in the rain,it takes a lot to cancell a trial, but it was all in a rocky stream, and the water level was up at least a metre.
I'd say Pampera too,the tank and radiators look pretty low, they have a very low CG.....just that a blue 2 stroke means it's a Yamaha....why don't Gas Gas pick another colour, terocota or peach maybe?

Yeah good one Big Dave. Other than lunch time I never saw you on the ride so sadly I scored no pics of you on the Triumph, hopefully you, Vege and Stretch have a few pics to share with us.
Last time on the Tiger certainly put you in legend status so that was a hard act to follow.

Stretch is a maestro and I'm a mug novice - but he took the Scrambler through the Challenge loops that I had trouble getting an LC4 through.
I punted it round the main route with absolute ease and loved every minute of it.
It won the gong for best sounding bike too.
Beautiful motorcycle - I had to fight to keep Oscar and Stretch off it all day - even Vege grudgingly nodded approval before banging the WR650 drum as usual.

Thanks very much for posting the photos guys. Still hyped up about the ride - now thinking seriously about Desert Storm..... Wife probably not going to be too happy about that one:devil2:
Thanks also to 4skins and the organisers - it must have taken a lot of hours and hard work to put on the event, so great to see all the favourable comments. Personally I had a great time, can't wait for the next one!

The last time I was there was nearly 30 years ago.I struggled along the rocks on the beach on a 175 cc Kwaka two stroker back then. This time we pillioned it comfortably(in the other direction) on our old Transalp.Something has changed in thirty years. Still a great ride though.

Jim2 would be too if he did it on his Kwaka with knobblies, but no sirreee not me I'm a wimp and will always use a proper dirt bike to make my life easy, but then I'm only half your height.

Ha! There was one instance where I was burning a valve about the front tyre on the tractor - online. Before I knew it was the *^%$&# Dunlop that caused the problem.
Quotes from a momentary hissy fit about the issue on ADV were at odds with previous general endorsement published in KR - and were forwarded to McKay with claims of impropriety and skullduggery.
Preposterous! I exclaimed to the Ed. If anyone wants to muscle in on my industry kickbacks they'll have to do a lot better than that.
