View Full Version : Akl Thurs night NIGHT RIDE and Drinks 6th April @ 6.30pm

Qkchk
2nd April 2006, 22:10
What: A ride in the Northern Valleys in da dark
When: Thursday night after work on the 6th April
Where: Meeting @ Shell Westgate (at the end of the North Western M/Way)
Why: Because there is more to motorcycling than just talking about it and its a good way to test your headlight!
Time: Meeting there from 6.30pm departing @ 7pm
Pace: Open to all

- Remember I dont want to see anyone turn up with a tinted/irridium visor on! Any chance to lessen the risks we take in our riding the better! (If you dont have a clear visor, may I suggest buying/borrowing a pair of clear saftey glasses and keep ya tint visor up....)

- Darkness = Slower speeds (self explained...)

- I'm doin the rides not for so much the riding itself (very limited with time and what you can do with it) but the social get-together at the Albany pub afterwards. So if you can't make the ride, try and make the pub and meet fellow Kbers!

The route will be discussed on the night. For those worried about distance/time the ride will last for approx 1hr and is 70kms long. We start at Westgate and finish up at the old Albany Pub.

Remember this ride is WEATHER PERMITTING - I will post up in the thread if it is postponed due to weather. I will decide on the day and post after 5pm.

Disclaimer: You participate on this ride at your own risk. I will not be held accountable for anyones actions, to/from and during the ride..

Anyone who is caught endangering others by their actions will be asked to leave the ride and may be refused entry to forthcoming rides!:oi-grr:

- Darkness = Slower speeds (self explained...)

You sure?? Eat your carrots, in the darkness you have less rubbish entering your peripheral vision, meaning you can concentrate on the road more:innocent:

Anyone who is caught endangering others by their actions will be asked to leave the ride and may be refused entry to forthcoming rides!:oi-grr:

Better watch out for that old fellow on that 1000cc suzuki, he sometimes gets panic attacks and doesn't know what to do, I fully expect him to start crying out loud one day.

Don't worry about me I'll be home hiding under the bed dreaming of ripping up Cheenic Dwive  or Huia Rd :spudbooge with a new set of tyres, oh yeah message from the fellow from the place - make sure you stay clear of that area unless some of you want a pair of highbeams pushing you off the road. - Sheesh that fella scares me I'm going back under the bed now:bye:

User beware! You ride like this at your own peril me boy. Borrow a pair of clear saftey glasses or buy them (Saftey shops sell them for $10) nothing more crunchier than a eye/mouth full of sandflies and mozzies! ;)

Is there anyone rather confident and experienced with night riding who would like to come along or is already coming and would be able to provide advice to those less confident in the dark?

I've noticed a few people aren't that confident in the dark so it'd be a good opportunity to spread some knowledge.

Nah I'm sweet, just recall hearing a few people complaining at the pub last week. If I remember correctly I was actually behind QKCHK for most of the ride when I joined up with them at Caltex.

If people wanna complain - fine! STAY AT HOME and ride in the day like all the rest of the sheep out there! :finger:

Couple of hints to enjoy the dark:

1. Don't wear a tint visor and make sure your clear visor is sparkling clean (no bug conference) before we leave Westgate..
2. A good headlight bulb is a starter (like duuuurrrrrr............), most factory standard headlight bulbs are only 65/55W but Im sure most bikes can take up to 100/55W or likewise.
3. Make sure the headlight is aligned correctly so youre not looking for possums in the trees nor focusing 1 foot in front of the bike...........
4. Where possible use your hi-beam.
5. Experience and familiarity of the road that you are on. If you know what corner is coming up next - it helps!

Personally I really enjoyed last weeks ride, it was a nice change. Fresh air, dodging possums and a cold beer at the end.:apint:

For those who aint scared of the boogie monster, see ya on thursday!

Works both ways, tell that old cripple SPB to leave me alone and I'll do likewise. Or I wont have any other choice but to tell him to go fuck himself.

To reiterate, as stated in my first post in this thread - I'm not coming along on the ride with you lot.

Good turnout expected tomorrow night. We will have a well-known Whangarei member coming back for his second ride with us. TLRider will be there upon his brand spanking new ZX10R for people to oouuuu and aarrgghhh at. Custard will be making his debut ride but will be taking it very quietly.
