View Full Version : i got a spada today

i got my new bike today, its as some already know, a 1989 honda vt250 spada.

shes just been imported and she was just vinned/rego/wof in the last two days. and she only has 25000k [well 26 now:first: ] and new tyres....
it goes extremely well for a 250 and handles amazingly well:love: and it look so goddam nice. i rode her home from masterton and didnt want to stop, so i went and showed all the mates.

anyhoo, the bike is in immaculate condition and it only has a small scratch on the brake lever and a tiny paint chip on the front gaurd [i might swap it for the spare carbon gaurd i had for the bros.

my only complaints are, it gets bashed around by wind....alot.... and ..... ummm... thats about it. even after the 650 it seems rather powerfull and its incredibly smooth and free revving, but also has a very very flat torque curve and will happily pull away from 40ks in 6th :headbang: it cruises quite well at 100 - 110 but i kept it to 80-90 cos the friggin wind was nearly blowing me off the road.

comfort- its very comfy and i happily rode 300k in the wet today:shit: .
handling- waaaaay beyond my limits. i rode till i found some nice dry road i know and entered a corner at the same speed i would have on the bros650 and the bike laughed at me and my small testicular arrangement:mellow: , i turned around and did it a few times again and am still getting used to how insanely fast it drops in.

anyway, it cost a grand total of $3844 including the new pair of boots [which are sooo nice and warm and dry] and the insurance to cover it while im paying it off....

yup, im fucking stoked:Punk:  :first: :done:

No I don't. I can't afford one due to the fact I came from a poverty stricken broken home and was subjected to horrific abuse. Feel sorry for me too?

How do you say "go fuck yourself" in spanish?

the only similatity between the vtz and the spada are basic engine design. the spada has a cast alluminium frame and the vtz has a welded steel frame which weighs more and isnt as strong, and the spada looks cooler haha.

the spada is an mc20 i think

Congrats on a great deal. I can't get over how expensive new 250's are in this country. I was speaking to a guy at Honda a while back and they had a 250 that was imported from Brazil that they were wanting to bring in. Retail around $4500. Can't remember the model but it was quite smart. Naturally they did nothing.

Nice looking scoot, good colour too, enjoy.

BTW My first experience with a Spada was of the Moto-Guzzi brand quite a long time ago, felt like the seat on it was built out of a hard plank - not good for a long trip.

it was dry today so i took her through dome twistys, as a mate attempted to follow me in his prelude. i still havent worn the little knobbly bit off the last 15-20mm on the edge of the tyre:gob: and i was going through the corners quicker than the gn/bros/gpz could dream about:rockon:
aparently i nearly had my knee down, but i wasnt trying to cos i only just got the bike and its better handling than anything else ive ridden, it keeps laughing at my corner speeds:nya:  .... its extremely rewarding to ride

GET RID OF THE IRC AS FAST AS YOU CAN. IRC ARE ABSOLUTE CRAP! Seriously, they're dangerous in the dry and deadly in the wet.

No they're not. But don't expect high-grip performance either. They are long-wearing because they are 'hard', so wet grip is not great

I'm running the Bridgestone Bt-45 (battlax, 130/90/16) on the rear of my Gpx (with supposidly(SP?) 1hp less than the Spada) and its been on for just over 8,000k's, about 6 months (was put on new for the kb track day in Taupo at end of last year) It still has (just shot out to measure) 3.75 mm of tread in the centre left.
The battlax has never given out on me in a corner and seems to be lasting pretty well.

Ask MSTRS or Yungatart about how they handle in the wet:niceone:

Might i add that i have NO chicken strips left, and the tyre is fairly evenly worn. I'm not much of a nanna rider

I'll vouch for that - was nerve-making to watch. Different profile to the Sport Demon tho. If the Spada has <8mm chickenstrips it is not because the pegs don't touch down!

They aren't that great. Get some decent rubber on as soon as (winter is coming)
